# Month of Muharram **Urdu title:** ماہِ محرم **Section:** Dua -- Fatima Zahra Imamia Centre devotional library **Page:** https://fzic.org/library/dua/month-of-muharram-2340 ## Text ### Discourse of Imam Reza (a) regarding Aashura - Instruction: Shaikh Saduq (r) narrated from Imam Reza (a) who said: One who refrains from seeking his (worldly) desires on the day of Ashura, Allah (swt) shall grant him his desires of this world and the hereafter. The one for whom the day of Ashura is a day of tragedy, grief and weeping, Allah, the Mighty, the Glorious, shall make the Day of Judgment, a day of joy and happiness for him. If one considers the Day of Ashura to be a blessed day for him and hoards things up in his house on that day, whatever he hoards up will not be blessed. He will be resurrected along with Yazeed, Ubaydillah ibn Ziyad and Umar ibn Saa’d, may Allah damn them, on the Resurrection Day.” Rayyaan ibn Shabeeb says that I went to meet Imam Ali Reza (a) on the first day of the month of Moharram. Imam Reza (a) asked me, “O son of Shabeeb! Are you in the state of fasting today”? I replied in the negative. Imam (a) continued, “This is the day when Prophet Zakariyyah (a)’s prayer was fulfilled. - Instruction (Urdu): شیخ صدوقؒ نے امام رضاؑ سے روایت کی ہے کہ امامؑ نے فرمایا: جو شخص عاشورا کے دن اپنی دنیاوی خواہشات کے پیچھے نہ پڑے، اللہ تعالیٰ اس کی دنیا اور آخرت کی حاجتیں پوری فرما دیتا ہے۔ اور جس کے لیے عاشورا کا دن غم، مصیبت اور رونے کا دن ہو، اللہ تعالیٰ قیامت کے دن کو اس کے لیے خوشی اور مسرت کا دن بنا دے گا۔ لیکن اگر کوئی شخص عاشورا کے دن کو برکت والا دن سمجھے اور اس دن گھر میں چیزیں جمع کر کے ذخیرہ کرے، تو جو کچھ وہ جمع کرے گا اس میں برکت نہیں ہوگی۔ اور قیامت کے دن وہ یزید، عبیداللہ ابن زیاد اور عمر ابن سعد (لعنت اللہ علیہم) کے ساتھ اٹھایا جائے گا۔ ریان بن شبیب کہتے ہیں کہ میں محرم کی پہلی تاریخ کو امام علی رضاؑ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا۔ امامؑ نے فرمایا: اے ابنِ شبیب! کیا تم آج روزے سے ہو؟ میں نے عرض کیا: “نہیں۔ امامؑ نے فرمایا: یہ وہ دن ہے جس میں حضرت زکریاؑ کی دعا قبول ہوئی تھی۔ پھر امامؑ نے فرمایا: اے ابنِ شبیب! اگر تم کسی پر نوحہ اور ماتم کرنا چاہو تو حسین ابن علیؑ پر کرو، کیونکہ انہیں بھیڑ کی طرح ذبح کر کے شہید کیا گیا۔ ان کے اہلِ بیت میں سے اٹھارہ افراد بھی ان کے ساتھ شہید کیے گئے، جن کی مثال زمین پر نہ تھی۔ آسمان و زمین نے حسینؑ کی شہادت پر گریہ کیا۔ چار ہزار فرشتے آسمان سے ان کی مدد کے لیے اترے، مگر جب پہنچے تو دیکھاکہ وہ پہلے ہی شہید ہو چکے تھے۔ لہٰذا وہ فرشتے آج بھی ان کی قبرِ مبارک کے پاس پریشان حال رہتے ہیں، بال بکھرے ہوتے ہیں اور گرد و غبار میں ہوتے ہیں، یہاں تک کہ قائمؑ (امام مہدیؑ) کا ظہور ہو۔ پھر وہ ان کی مدد کریں گے اور ان کا نعرہ ہوگا۔۔۔ - Arabic: یَا لِثَارَاتِ الْحُسَیْنِ عَلَیْہِ السَّلَامُ۔ - Transliteration: YAA LE-SAARAA-TIL HUSAIN ALAIY-HIS SALAAM. - English: Vengeance for the blood of Hussain (a). - Urdu: اے منتقم خون امام حسینؑ۔ - Instruction: O son of Shabeeb! My father (Imam Moosa Kazim (a)) has related from his father (Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (a)), who has related from his grandfather (Imam Ali Zainul Aabedeen (a)), that when my grandfather Imam Hussain (a) was martyred, the sky rained blood and red sand. O son of Shabeeb! If you weep over the afflictions of Hussain (a) such that tears flow from your eyes and fall upon your cheeks, Allah will forgive all your sins whether major or minor and less or large in number. O son of Shabeeb! If you desire to meet Allah, the Glorified, in a state purified of all sins, then go for the pilgrimage to the shrine of Imam Hussain (a). O son of Shabeeb! If you desire that you may abide in the palaces of Paradise in the company of the Holy Prophet (s) and his Progeny, then invoke Allah’s curse upon the murderers of Imam Hussain (a). O son of Shabeeb! If you desire to earn the reward of those who were martyred along with Imam Hussain (a), then whenever you remember him (a), say… - Instruction (Urdu): اے ابنِ شبیب! میرے والد امام موسیٰ کاظمؑ نے اپنے والد سے، اور انہوں نے اپنے والد سے، اور انہوں نے اپنے دادا امام علی زین العابدینؑ سے روایت کی ہے کہ جب میرے دادا امام حسینؑ شہید کیے گئے تو آسمان سے خون اور سرخ مٹی برسی۔ اے ابنِ شبیب! اگر تم حسینؑ کی مصیبتوں پر اس طرح روؤ کہ تمہارے آنسو آنکھوں سے بہہ کر رخساروں پر گر جائیں، تو اللہ تعالیٰ تمہارے تمام گناہ بخش دے گا، چاہے وہ بڑے ہوں یا چھوٹے اور چاہے کم ہوں یا زیادہ۔ اے ابنِ شبیب! اگر تم چاہتے ہو کہ اللہ تعالیٰ سے اس حال میں ملاقات کرو کہ تم گناہوں سے پاک ہو، تو امام حسینؑ کی زیارت کرو۔ اے ابنِ شبیب! اگر تم چاہتے ہو کہ جنت کے محلات میں رسولِ خداؐ اور اُن کی آل کے ساتھ رہو، تو امام حسینؑ کے قاتلوں پر اللہ کی لعنت کرو۔ اے ابنِ شبیب! اگر تم یہ چاہتے ہو کہ تمہیں اُن لوگوں جیسا ثواب ملے جو امام حسینؑ کے ساتھ شہید ہوئے، تو جب بھی تم اُنہیں یاد کرو، تو کہو۔۔۔ - Arabic: یَا لَیْتَنِیْ كُنْتُ مَعَہُمْ فَاَفُوْزَ فَوْزًا عَظِیْمًا۔ - Transliteration: YAA LAIY-TANEE KUNTO MA’HUM FA-AFOOZA FAWZAN A’ZEEMA. - English: I wish I had been with them, then I too would have attained the Great Triumph. - Urdu: کاش میں ان کے ساتھ ہوتا تو عظیم کامیابی تک پہنچ جاتا۔ - Instruction: O son of Shabeeb! If you desire to reside in the exalted status of Paradise along with us, then bemoan our sorrows and sufferings and rejoice in our happiness and remain attached to our love. For even if a person is attached to a stone in this world, Allah shall make him arise with it on the day of Qeyaamah. Then Imam Reza (a) said: The first day of Muharram is the day when Prophet Zakariyyah (a) prayed to his Lord thus Lord grant me from unto You a good offspring, Verily You are the Hearer of Prayers. Then Allah accepted his prayers and commanded His Angels to go and give him glad tidings regarding the birth of his son Prophet Yahya (a). Imam Reza (a) said: Hence the one who fasts on this day and asks for his desires from Allah (swt), his prayer will be answered as was of Prophet Zakariyah (a). - Instruction (Urdu): اے ابنِ شبیب! اگر تم چاہتے ہو کہ جنت کے بلند درجے میں ہمارے ساتھ رہو، تو ہماری مصیبتوں اور دکھوں پر غم کرو اور ہماری خوشی میں خوش رہو اور ہماری محبت سے وابستہ رہو۔ کیونکہ اگر کوئی شخص دنیا میں کسی پتھر سے بھی دل لگائے تو اللہ تعالیٰ قیامت کے دن اسے اسی کے ساتھ اٹھائے گا۔ پھر امام رضاؑ نے فرمایا: محرم کی پہلی تاریخ وہ دن ہے جب حضرت زکریاؑ نے اپنے رب سے دعا کی: پروردگار! مجھے اپنی طرف سے پاکیزہ/نیک اولاد عطا فرما، بے شک تو دعاؤں کو سننے والا ہے۔ پس اللہ نے ان کی دعا قبول کی اور اپنے فرشتوں کو حکم دیا کہ وہ انہیں اُن کے بیٹے حضرت یحییٰؑ کی ولادت کی خوشخبری دیں۔ امام رضاؑ نے فرمایا: لہٰذا جو شخص اس دن روزہ رکھے اور اللہ سے اپنی حاجتیں مانگے، اس کی دعا قبول ہوگی جیسے حضرت زکریاؑ کی دعا قبول ہوئی تھی۔ ### The Day of Ashura - Instruction: Ja’far ibn Isa said the following: “I once asked Imam Reza (a) about fasting on Ashura and what people say about it. He (the Imam (a)) said, It is the fast of ibn Marjanah. You are asking me about the day in which the adopted ones of the family of Ziyad for their murdering Imam Hussain (a) were fasting. It is an ominous day for the family of Muhammad, (a). For people of Islam it is an ominous day. A day, which is ominous for the people of Islam is not a day of fasting or a day of blessing. Monday is an unblessed day because Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, took His Holy prophet (s), O Allah! grant compensation to Muhammad (s) and his family (a) worthy of their services to Your cause, from this world. The family of Muhammad (a) has been hurt on Monday, so we took it as an ominous day and our enemies took it as a day of blessing.” - Instruction (Urdu): جعفر بن عیسیٰ کہتے ہیں: “میں نے ایک مرتبہ امام رضاؑ سے عاشورا کے دن روزہ رکھنے کے بارے میں پوچھا اور یہ بھی کہ لوگ اس کے بارے میں کیا کہتے ہیں۔ امامؑ نے فرمایا: یہ ابنِ مرجانہ (عبیداللہ ابنِ زیاد) کا روزہ ہے۔ تم مجھ سے اس دن کے بارے میں پوچھ رہے ہو جس دن زیاد کے خاندان کے منہ بولے لوگ (یعنی ان کے حمایتی) امام حسینؑ کو قتل کرنے کی وجہ سے روزہ رکھتے تھے۔ یہ دن آلِ محمدؑ کے لیے نحوست کا دن ہے، اور امتِ اسلام کے لیے بھی نحوست کا دن ہے۔ جو دن مسل انوں کے لیے نحوست والا ہو، وہ روزہ رکھنے یا برکت سمجھنے کا دن نہیں۔ پھر امامؑ نے فرمایا: پیر بھی ایک غیر مبارک دن ہے، کیونکہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے اسی دن اپنے نبیؐ کو دنیا سے اٹھا لیا۔ اے اللہ! محمدؐ اور ان کی آلؑ کو تیری راہ میں ان کی خدمات کے مطابق بہترین بدلہ عطا فرما۔ آلِ محمدؑ کو پیر کے دن صدمہ پہنچا، اس لیے ہم نے اسے نحوست کا دن سمجھا، جبکہ ہمارے دشمنوں نے اسے برکت کا دن بنا لیا۔ ### Curse on Yazeed and his Followers - Instruction: Raawandi narrates in the book ‘Namaz al-Hazeen’ on the authority of Fazl Ibn Shaazan who said: I heard Imam Reza (a) saying: When they took the decapitated head of Imam Hussain ibn Ali (a) to Sham, Yazeed, may Allah damn him, ordered that it be put somewhere and the tablecloth be spread. He, may Allah damn him and his companions, started to eat and drink beer. When they finished eating, he ordered that they put the head in a tub in front of his couch and place the chess board over the tub. Yazeed, may Allah damn him, started playing chess with his companions while he was swearing at Imam Hussain (a), his forefathers and grandfather (a) and making fun of them. Whenever he won the game, he drank three mugs of beer. Then he poured down the little bit of leftover beer on the ground right next to the tub in which Imam Hussain’s (a) head was placed. Allah, Mighty and Majestic be He, will eliminate the sins of whoever sees beer or a chess board and remembers Imam Hussain (a), and damns Yazeed and the Aal’e Ziyad, even if the number of his sins are as many as there are stars in the sky Abdul Salaam ibn Saleh Harawi said that he had heard Imam Reza (a) saying, The first person for whom beer was made during the era of Islam in Syria was Yazeed, may Allah damn him. He was sitting at the spread-out tablecloth with the decapitated head of Imam Hussain (a) there, when they brought him some beer. He drank some and personally served beer to his companions. The God damned Yazeed told his companions, ‘Drink this since it is a blessed drink! If it was not blessed, we would not have been the first ones to drink it with the head of our enemy in front of us, and our tablecloth spread out. We are eating and drinking with perfect calm and peace of mind.’ Whoever is one of our followers should abstain from drinking beer, since it is the drink for our enemies. Whoever does not abstain is not one of our followers. My father (a) narrated that his father (a) quoted on the authority of Ali ibn Abi Talib (a) that Allah’s Prophet (s) said, Do not wear the clothes of our enemies. Do not eat our enemies’ food. Do not follow what our enemies follow. Should you do so you are one of our enemies just as they are. - Instruction (Urdu): راوندی اپنی کتاب نماز الحزین میں فضل بن شاذان کے حوالے سے نقل کرتے ہیں کہ انہوں نے کہا: میں نے امام رضاؑ کو فرماتے ہوئے سنا: جب امام حسین ابن علیؑ کا (شہادت کے بعد) سرِ مبارک شام لے جایا گیا تو یزید (لعنت اللہ علیہ) نے حکم دیا کہ اسے ایک جگہ رکھا جائے اور دسترخوان بچھایا جائے۔ پھر وہ اور اس کے ساتھی کھانے لگے اور بیئر/شراب پینے لگے۔ جب کھانا ختم ہوا تو اس نے حکم دیا کہ سرِ مبارک کو اس کے تخت کے سامنے ایک برتن/ٹب میں رکھیں اور اس برتن کے اوپر شطرنج کی بساط رکھ دیں۔ پھر یزید اپنے ساتھیوں کے ساتھ شطرنج کھیلنے لگا، اور وہ امام حسینؑ، ان کے بزرگوں اور ان کے جد (یعنی رسولؐ) کے بارے میں گستاخی کرتا اور مذاق اُڑاتا تھا۔ جب بھی وہ کھیل جیتتا تو بیئر کے تین پیالے پیتا، پھر جو تھوڑی سی باقی رہ جاتی اسے اُس جگہ زمین پر بہا دیتا جو اُس برتن کے پاس تھی جس میں سرِ مبارک رکھا تھا۔ امام رضاؑ نے فرمایا: اللہ تعالیٰ اس شخص کے گناہ مٹا دیتا ہے جو بیئر یا شطرنج کی بساط دیکھ کر امام حسینؑ کو یاد کرے اور یزید اور آلِ زیاد پر لعنت کرے چاہے اس کے گناہ آسمان کے ستاروں کے برابر ہی کیوں نہ ہوں۔ پھر عبدالسلام بن صالح ہروی کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے امام رضاؑ سے سنا: اسلام کے دور میں شام میں سب سے پہلے جس کے لیے بیئر تیار کی گئی وہ یزید (لعنت اللہ علیہ) تھا۔ وہ دسترخوان پر بیٹھا تھا اور سرِ مبارک وہاں موجود تھا کہ اس کے پاس بیئر لائی گئی۔ اس نے خود پی اور اپنے ساتھیوں کو بھی پلائی۔ پھر (لعین) یزید نے کہا: اسے پیو، یہ تو برکت والا مشروب ہے! اگر یہ برکت والا نہ ہوتا تو ہم سب سے پہلے اسے اپنے دشمن کے سر کے سامنے اور دسترخوان بچھا کر نہ پیتے۔ ہم پورے سکون کے ساتھ کھا پی رہے ہیں۔ امام رضاؑ نے فرمایا: ہمارا جو شیعہ/پیروکار ہو اسے بیئر (شراب) سے بچنا چاہیے، کیونکہ یہ ہمارے دشمنوں کا مشروب ہے۔ جو اس سے نہیں بچتا وہ ہم میں سے نہیں۔ اور پھر امامؑ نے اپنے آباء کے ذریعے امیرالمؤمنین علیؑ سے، اور انہوں نے رسولِ خداؐ سے نقل کیا کہ آپؐ نے فرمایا: ہمارے دشمنوں جیسا لباس نہ پہنو، ان کا کھانا نہ کھاؤ، اور جن راستوں پر وہ چلتے ہیں اُن کی پیروی نہ کرو۔ اگر تم ایسا کرو گے تو تم بھی اُنہی میں شمار ہو جاؤ گے۔ ### Supplication of Hazrat Fatema Zahra (s) On the Day of Judgement - Instruction: Abu Ahmad ibn Sulaiman al-Taaee, on the authority of Imam Reza (a) in Madinah in the year 194 A.H. (809 A.D.), on the authority of his father Moosa ibn Ja’far (a), on the authority of his father Ja’far ibn Muhammad (a), on the authority of his father Muhammad ibn Ali (a), on the authority of Ali ibn Hussain (a), on the authority of his father Hussain ibn Ali (a), on the authority of his father Ali ibn Abi Talib (a) that Allah’s Prophet (s) said, My daughter (the Blessed Lady) Fatema (s) will be resurrected on the Resurrection Day with a shirt stained with blood, will grab onto one of the pillars of the Throne and say… - Instruction (Urdu): ابو احمد ابن سلیمان الطائی بیان کرتے ہیں کہ انہوں نے مدینہ میں ۱۹۴ ہجری (۸۰۹ عیسوی) میں امام رضاؑ سے یہ روایت سنی۔ امام رضاؑ نے اسے اپنے والد امام موسیٰ کاظمؑ سے، انہوں نے اپنے والد امام جعفر صادقؑ سے، انہوں نے اپنے والد امام محمد باقرؑ سے، انہوں نے امام علی زین العابدینؑ سے، انہوں نے اپنے والد امام حسینؑ سے، انہوں نے اپنے والد امیرالمؤمنین علیؑ سے روایت کی کہ رسولِ خداؐ نے فرمایا: میری بیٹی (سیدہ) فاطمہؑ قیامت کے دن اس حال میں اٹھائی جائیں گی کہ اُن کے پاس ایک خون آلود قمیص ہوگی۔ وہ عرش کے ستونوں میں سے ایک ستون کو تھام لیں گی اور پھر کہیں گی۔۔۔ - Arabic: يَا اَحْكَمَ الْـحَاكِمِيْنَ اُحْكُمْ بَيْنِيْ وَبَيْنَ قَاتِلِ وَلَدِيْ۔ - Transliteration: YAA AH-KAMAL HAAKE-MEENA OH-KUM BAIY-NEE WA BAIY-NA QAATELE WALADEE. - English: O the Judge of the judges! Judge between me and the murderers of my son. - Urdu: اے سب سے بہترین فیصلہ کرنے والے میرے اور میرے بیٹے کے قاتل کے درمیان فیصلہ فرما۔ - Instruction: Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (a) also said that Allah’s Prophet (s) said… - Instruction (Urdu): اور امیرالمؤمنین امام علی ابن ابی طالبؑ نے بھی فرمایا کہ رسولِ خداؐ نے فرمایا۔۔۔ - Arabic: وَ يَـحْكُمُ لِابْنَتِيْ فَاطِمَةَ وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ۔ - Transliteration: WA YAH-KOMO LAB-NATEE FATEMATA WA RABBIL KA’BAH. - English: I swear by the Lord of the Kaaba that Allah (swt) will rule in favour of my daughter Fatema (s). - Urdu: اور رب کعبہ کی قسم وہ میری بیٹی فاطمہ کے سلسلہ میں فیصلہ کرے گا۔ - Instruction: Abul Qasim Ta’ee on the authoirity of his father, who on the authority of Imam Reza (a) who on the authority of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (a) narrated that the Holy Prophet (s) said: Moosa, the son of Imran (a) asked his Lord, the Honorable the Exalted: O Lord! My brother Haaroon has died. Please forgive him. Allah, the High, revealed to him… - Instruction (Urdu): ابوالقاسم طائی اپنے والد کے حوالے سے روایت کرتے ہیں، اور وہ امام رضاؑ کے حوالے سے، اور امام رضاؑ امام علی ابن ابی طالبؑ کے حوالے سے بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسولِ خداؐ نے فرمایا: حضرت موسیٰ ابنِ عمرانؑ نے اپنے ربِ کریم و بلند سے عرض کیا: اے پروردگار! میرے بھائی ہارونؑ کا انتقال ہو گیا ہے، آپ انہیں بخش دیں۔ تو اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان کی طرف وحی فرمائی کہ۔۔۔ - Arabic: يَا مُوسٰى لَوْ سَاَلْتَنِيْ فِيْ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ وَالْآخِرِيْنَ لَاَجَبْتُكَ مَا خَلَا قَاتِلَ الْـحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ اَبِيْ طَالِبٍ عَلَیْہِمَا السَّلَامُ فَاِنِّيْ اَنْتَقِمُ لَهٗ مِنْ قَاتِلِهٖ۔ - Transliteration: YAA MOOSAA LAU SA-ALTA-NEE FIL AWWA-LEENA WAL AAKHE-REENA LA-AJAB-TOKA MAA KHA-LAA QAATE-LAL HUSAIY-NIBNE ALIYYIB-NE ABEE TAALE-BIN A’LAIY-HE MAS-SALAAMO FA-INNEE ANTA-QEMO LAHU MIN QAATELE-HI. - English: O Moosa! If you ask Me to forgive any of those of the old or those of later times I would forgive them except for the murderers of Imam Hussain ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib (a).
