# Preparing Kafan of Dead

## About this text

What is written on the kafan when the shroud is prepared, kept with the details of burial.

It is not a supplication but a testimony written in the name of the person who has died — the page marks where the mayyit's name is to be entered. It records that he or she bears witness that there is no god save Allah, One and having no associate, that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, that Ali is the Commander of the Faithful, and then names the Imams from his progeny in order to the Rising Argument, the Qa'im (ajtf).

The creed the person held in life is written out and goes into the earth with them.

- Arabic: يَشْهَدُ اَنْ لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهٗ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهٗ وَاَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُوْلُ اللهِ وَاَنَّ عَلِيَّا اَمِيْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَالْاَئِمَّةِ مِنْ وُلْدِهٖ وَاَنَّ اَوَّلَهُمُ الْحَسَنُ وَالْحُسَيْنُ وَعَلِىُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيْ وَجَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَمُوْسَى بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ وَعَلِىُّ بْنُ مُوْسٰى وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيْ وَعَلِىُّ بْنُ مَحَمَّدٍ وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيْ وَالْقَاۗئِمُ الْحُجَّةُ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ اَئِمَّتُهٗ اَئِمَّةُ الْهُدَى الْاَبْرَارُ۔
- Transliteration: YASH-HADO AN LAA ILAAHA ILLAL-LAAHO WAH-DAHU LAA SHAREEKA LAHU WA ANNA MOHAMMADAN RASOO-LUL-LAAHE WA ANNA ‘ALIYYAN AMEERUL MOMENEENA WAL AIMMATE MIN WUL-DEHI WA ANNA AWWALA-HOMUL HASANO WAL HUSAI-NO WA ‘ALI-YUB-NUL HUSAI-NE WA MOHAMMA-DUBNO ‘ALI WA JA’FA-RUBNO MOHAMMADIN WA MOO-SABNO JA’FARIN WA ‘ALIY-YUBNO MOOSAA WA MOHAMMA-DUBNO ‘ALI WA ‘ALIY-YUBNO MOHAMMADIN WAL HASA-NUBNO ‘ALI WAL QAAA-E-MUL HUJJATO ‘ALIY-HE-MUS SALAA-MO AIMMA-TOHU AIMMA-TUL HODAL ABRAAR.
- English: [Write the name of mayyit] bears witness that there is no god save Allah, One and Only and having no associate, that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, that Ali is the commander of the believers, and that the Imams from his progeny: Hasan, Husain, Ali the son of Husain, Muhammad the son of Ali, Ja`far the son of Muhammad, Moosa the son of Ja`far, Ali the son of Moosa, Muhammad the son of Ali, Ali the son of Muhammad, Hasan the son of Ali, and the Rising Argument-person, peace be upon them all are his Imams. They are the pious leaders to true guidance.
- Urdu: (میت کا نام)گواہی دیتا ہے کہ نہیں کوئی معبود مگر ﷲ جو یکتا ہے کوئی اس کا شریک نہیں ، یہ کہ حضرت محمدؐ ﷲ کے رسول ہیں حضرت علیؑ مومنوں کے امیر ہیں اور جو امام ان کی اولاد میں  ہیں کہ ان میں  اول حسنؑ ہیں اور حسینؑ، علی ابن الحسینؑ محمد ابن علیؑ، جعفر ابن محمدؑ،موسیٰ ابن جعفرؑ،علی ابن موسیٰؑ، محمد ابن علیؑ، علی ابن محمدؑ،حسن ابن علیؑ اور حجت القائمؑ اس کے امام ہیں جو ہدایت و نیکی والے امام ہیں۔
