# Sleeplessness

## About this text

A supplication for a night when sleep will not come, kept among the duas for bedtime.

It asks by the things Allah already does for people who cannot do them for themselves: He who fills the empty stomach, who clothes the bare body, who stills the throbbing vein, who puts the wakeful eye to sleep. Only then does it make its request, in the same words — still my throbbing veins, and let sleep come to my eyes soon.

## Text

- Arabic: بِسْمِ اللہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ
- Transliteration: BISMILLAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM
- English: In the Name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful.
- Urdu: اللہ کے نام سے (شروع کرتا ہوں) جو بڑا مہربا ن نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔

- Arabic: یَا مُشْبِعَ الْبُطُوْنِ الْجَاۗئِعَۃِ، وَیَا كَاسِیَ الْجُسُوْمِ الْعَارِیَۃِ، وَیَا سَاكِنَ الْعُرُوْقِ الضَّارِبَۃِ، وَیَا مُنَوِّمَ الْعُیُوْنِ السَّاهِرَۃِ، سَكِّنْ عُرُوْقِیَ الضَّارِبَۃِ، وَاذَنْ لِعَیْنِیْ نَوْمًا عَاجِلًا۔
- Transliteration: YAA MUSHBE-A’L BOTOONIL JAA-E-A’TE, WA YAA KAASEYAL JOSOOMIL A’AREYATE WA YAA SAAKENAL O’ROOQIZ ZAAREBATE, WA YAA MONAWWEMAL O’YOONIS SAAHERATE, SAKKIN O’ROOQEYAZ ZAAREBATE, WAA ZAN LE-A’YNEE NAWMAN A’AJELAN.
- English: O One, Who fills the empty stomachs and One, Who covers the naked bodies, O One, Who steadies the throbbing veins. O One, Who puts to sleep, the wakeful eyes. Make my throbbing veins steady and allow sleep for my eyes soon.
- Urdu: اے بھوکوں کو پیٹ بھر کر کھلانے والے، اے عریاں بدنوں کو لباس پہننانے والے اور چھپانے والے، اے زخمی رگوں کو آرام دینے والے، اے بیدار آنکھوں کو نیند دینے والے، بے تاب رگوں کو آرام دے، اور جلدی سے میری آنکھوں کو نیند عطا فرما۔

- Arabic: اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ۔
- Transliteration: ALLAHUMMA SWALLE ALAA MUHAMMADIW WA AALE MUHAMMADIN
- English: Allah’s (s.w.t) choicest blessings be upon Mohammed and his holy progeny.
- Urdu: اے معبود! رحمت نازل فرما حضرت محمدؐ اور انکی آل ؑپر۔
