### Ways of Ascent (Makki)

- Arabic: بِسْمِ اللہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ
- Transliteration: BISMILLAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM
- English: In the Name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful.
- Urdu: اللہ کے نام سے (شروع کرتا ہوں) جو بڑا مہربا ن نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔

- Arabic: سَاَلَ سَاۗئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَّاقِعٍ
- Transliteration: SA’ALA SAAA’ILUN BI ’AZAABINW WAAQI’.
- English: One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall
- Urdu: ایک مانگنے والے نے واقع ہونے والے عذاب کا سوال کیا۔

- Arabic: لِلْكٰفِرِيْنَ لَيْسَ لَهٗ دَافِعٌ
- Transliteration: LIL KAAFIREENA LAISA LAHOO DAAFI’.
- English: The unbelievers- there is none to avert it-
- Urdu: جس کا کافروں کے حق میں کوئی دفع کرنے والا نہیں ہے۔

- Arabic: مِنَ اللهِ ذِي الْمَعَارِجِ
- Transliteration: MINAL LAAHI ZIL MA’AARIJ.
- English: From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent.
- Urdu: یہ بلندیوں والے خدا کی طرف سے ہے۔

- Arabic: تَعْرُجُ الْمَلٰئِكَةُ وَالرُّوْحُ اِلَيْهِ فِيْ يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهٗ خَمْسِيْنَ اَلْفَ سَنَةٍ
- Transliteration: TA’RUJUL MALAAA’IKATU WAR ROOHU ILAIHI FEE YAWMIN KAANA MIQDAARUHOO KHAMSEENA ALFA SANAH.
- English: To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years.
- Urdu: جس کی طرف فرشتے اور روح الامین بلند ہوتے ہیں اس ایک دن میں جس کی مقدار پچاس ہزار سال کے برابر ہے۔

- Arabic: فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيْلًا
- Transliteration: FASBIR SABRAN JAMEELAA.
- English: Therefore endure with a goodly patience.
- Urdu: لہذا آپ بہترین صبر سے کام لیں۔

- Arabic: اِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهٗ بَعِيْدًا
- Transliteration: INAAHUM YARAWNAHOO BA’EEDAA.
- English: Surely they think it to be far off
- Urdu: یہ لوگ اسے دور سمجھ رہے ہیں۔

- Arabic: وَنَرٰهُ قَرِيْبًا
- Transliteration: WA NARAAHU QAREEBAA.
- English: And We see it nigh.
- Urdu: اور ہم اسے قریب ہی دیکھ رہے ہیں۔

- Arabic: يَوْمَ تَكُوْنُ السَّمَاۗءُ كَالْمُهْلِ
- Transliteration: YAWMA TAKOONUS SAMAAA’U KALMUHL.
- English: On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper
- Urdu: جس دن آسمان پگھلے ہوئے تانبے کے مانند ہو جائے گا۔

- Arabic: وَتَكُوْنُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ
- Transliteration: WA TAKOONUL JIBAALU KAL’IHN.
- English: And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool
- Urdu: اور پہاڑ دھنکے ہوئے اون جیسے۔

- Arabic: وَلَا يَسْئَلُ حَمِيْمٌ حَمِيْمًا
- Transliteration: WA LAA YAS’ALU HAMEEMUN HAMEEMAA.
- English: And friend shall not ask of friend
- Urdu: اور کوئی ہمدرد کسی ہمدرد کا پرسانِ حال نہ ہو گا۔

- Arabic: يُّبَصَّرُوْنَهُمْ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِيْ مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۢ بِبَنِيْهِ
- Transliteration: YUBASSAROONAHUM; YA WADDUL MUJRIMU LAW YAFTADEE MIN ’AZAABI YAWMA’IZIM BIBANEEH.
- English: (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children
- Urdu: وہ سب ایک دوسرے کو دکھائے جائیں گے تو مجرم چاہے گا کہ کاش آج کے دن کے عذاب کے بدلے اس کی اولاد کو لے لیا جائے۔

- Arabic: وَصَاحِبَتِهٖ وَاَخِيْهِ
- Transliteration: WA SAAHIBATIHEE WA AKHEEH.
- English: And his wife and his brother
- Urdu: اور بیوی اور بھائی کو۔

- Arabic: وَفَصِيْلَتِهِ الَّتِيْ تُؤْوِيْهِ
- Transliteration: WA FASEELATHIL LATEE TU’WEEH.
- English: And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter
- Urdu: اور اس کنبہ کو جس میں وہ رہتا تھا۔

- Arabic: وَمَنْ فِي الْاَرْضِ جَمِيْعًا ثُمَّ يُنْجِيْهِ
- Transliteration: WA MAN FIL ARDI JAMEE’AN SUMMA YUNJEEH.
- English: And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him.
- Urdu: اور روئے زمین کی ساری مخلوقات کو اور اسے نجات دے دی جائے۔

- Arabic: كَلَّآ اِنَّهَا لَظٰى
- Transliteration: KALLAA INNAHAA LAZAA.
- English: By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire
- Urdu: ہرگز نہیں یہ آتش جہنّم ہے۔

- Arabic: نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوٰى
- Transliteration: NAZZAA’ATAL LISHSHAWAA.
- English: Dragging by the head
- Urdu: کھال اتار دینے والی۔

- Arabic: تَدْعُوْ مَنْ اَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلّٰى
- Transliteration: TAD’OO MAN ADBARA WA TAWALLAA.
- English: It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth)
- Urdu: ان سب کو آواز دے رہی ہے جو منہ پھیر کر جانے والے تھے۔

- Arabic: وَجَمَعَ فَاَوْعٰى
- Transliteration: WA JAMA’A FA AW’AA.
- English: And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up.
- Urdu: اور جنہوں نے مال جمع کر کے بند کر رکھا تھا۔

- Arabic: اِنَّ الْاِنْسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوْعًا
- Transliteration: INNAL INSAANA KHULIQA HALOO’AA.
- English: Surely man is created of a hasty temperament;
- Urdu: بےشک انسان بڑا لالچی ہے۔

- Arabic: اِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوْعًا
- Transliteration: IZAA MASSAHUSH SHARRU JAZOO’AA.
- English: Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him
- Urdu: جب تکلیف پہنچ جاتی ہے تو فریادی بن جاتا ہے۔

- Arabic: وَاِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوْعًا
- Transliteration: WA IZAA MASSAHUL KHAIRU MANOO’AA.
- English: And miserly when good befalls him
- Urdu: اور جب مال مل جاتا ہے تو بخیل ہو جاتا ہے۔

- Arabic: اِلَّا الْمُصَلِّيْنَ
- Transliteration: ILLAL MUSALLEEN.
- English: Except those who pray
- Urdu: علاوہ ان نمازیوں کے۔

- Arabic: اَلَّذِيْنَ هُمْ عَلٰى صَلَاتِهِمْ دَاۗئِمُوْنَ
- Transliteration: ALLAZEENA HUM ’ALAA SALAATIHIM DAAA’IMOON.
- English: Those who are constant at their prayer
- Urdu: جو اپنی نمازوں کی پابندی کرنے والے ہیں۔

- Arabic: وَالَّذِيْنَ فِيْٓ اَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُوْمٌ
- Transliteration: WALLAZEENA FEEE AMWAALIHIM HAQQUN MA’LOOM.
- English: And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion.
- Urdu: اور جن کے اموال میں ایک مقررہ حق معین ہے۔

- Arabic: لِلسَّاۗئِلِ وَالْمَحْرُوْمِ
- Transliteration: LISSAAA ’ILI WALMAHROOM.
- English: For him who begs and for him who is denied (good)
- Urdu: مانگنے والے کے لئے اور نہ مانگنے والے کے لئے۔

- Arabic: وَالَّذِيْنَ يُصَدِّقُوْنَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّيْنِ
- Transliteration: WALLAZEENA YUSADDIQOONA BI YAWMID DEEN.
- English: And those who accept the truth of the judgment day
- Urdu: اور جو لوگ روزِ قیامت کی تصدیق کرنے والے ہیں۔

- Arabic: وَالَّذِيْنَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُوْنَ
- Transliteration: WALLAZEENA HUM MIN ’AZAABI RABBIHIM MUSHFIQOON.
- English: And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord-
- Urdu: اور جو اپنے پروردگار کے عذاب سے ڈرنے والے ہیں۔

- Arabic: اِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَاْمُوْنٍ
- Transliteration: INNA ’AZAABA RABBIHIM GHAIRU MA’ MOON.
- English: Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-
- Urdu: بےشک عذابِ پروردگار بے خوف رہنے والی چیز نہیں ہے۔

- Arabic: وَالَّذِيْنَ هُمْ لِفُرُوْجِهِمْ حٰفِظُوْنَ
- Transliteration: WALLAZEENA HUM LI FUROOJIHIM HAAFIZOON.
- English: And those who guard their private parts
- Urdu: اور جو اپنی شرمگاہوں کی حفاظت کرنے والے ہیں۔

- Arabic: اِلَّا عَلٰٓى اَزْوَاجِهِمْ اَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ اَيْمَانُهُمْ فَاِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُوْمِيْنَ
- Transliteration: ILLAA ’ALAAA AZWAAJIHIM AW MAA MALAKAT AYMAANUHUM FA INNAHUM GHAIRU MALOOMEEN.
- English: Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess- for these surely are not to be blamed
- Urdu: علاوہ اپنی بیویوں اور کنیزوں کے کہ اس پر ملامت نہیں کی جاتی ہے۔

- Arabic: فَمَنِ ابْتَغٰى وَرَاۗءَ ذٰلِكَ فَاُولٰۗئِكَ هُمُ الْعٰدُوْنَ
- Transliteration: FAMANIB TAGHAA WARAAA’A ZAALIKA FA ULAAA’IKA HUMUL ’AADOON.
- English: But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-
- Urdu: پھر جو اس کے علاوہ کا خواہشمند ہو وہ حد سے گزر جانے والا ہے۔

- Arabic: وَالَّذِيْنَ هُمْ لِاَمٰنٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رٰعُوْنَ
- Transliteration: WALLAZEENA HUM LI AMAANAATIHIM WA ’AHDIHIM RAA’OON.
- English: And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant
- Urdu: اور جو اپنی امانتوں اور عہد کا خیال رکھنے والے ہیں۔

- Arabic: وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ بِشَهٰدٰتِهِمْ قَاۗئِمُوْنَ
- Transliteration: WALLAZEENA HUM BI SHAHAADAATIHIM QAAA’IMOON.
- English: And those who are upright in their testimonies
- Urdu: اور جو اپنی گواہیوں پر قائم رہنے والے ہیں۔

- Arabic: وَالَّذِيْنَ هُمْ عَلٰى صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُوْنَ
- Transliteration: WALLAZEENA HUM ’ALAA SALAATIHIM YUHAAFIZOON.
- English: And those who keep a guard on their prayer
- Urdu: اور جو اپنی نمازوں کا خیال رکھنے والے ہیں۔

- Arabic: اُولٰۗئِكَ فِيْ جَنّٰتٍ مُّكْرَمُوْنَ
- Transliteration: ULAAA’IKA FEE JANNAATIM MUKRAMOON.
- English: Those shall be in gardens, honored.
- Urdu: یہی لوگ جنّت میں باعزّت طریقہ سے رہنے والے ہیں۔

- Arabic: فَمَالِ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِيْنَ
- Transliteration: FAMAA LIL LAZEENA KAFAROO QIBALAKA MUHTI’EEN.
- English: But what is the matter with those who disbelieve that they hasten on around you
- Urdu: پھر ان کافروں کو کیا ہو گیا ہے کہ آپ کی طرف بھاگے چلے آرہے ہیں۔

- Arabic: عَنِ الْيَمِيْنِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِيْنَ
- Transliteration: ANIL YAMEENI WA ’ANISH SHIMAALI ’IZEEN.
- English: On the right hand and on the left, in sundry parties?
- Urdu: داہیں بائیں سے گروہ در گروہ۔

- Arabic: اَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ امْرِیٍٔ مِّنْهُمْ اَنْ يُّدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيْمٍ
- Transliteration: AYATMA’U KULLUM RI’IM MINHUM ANYYUDKHALA JANNATA NA’EEM.
- English: Does every man of them desire that he should be made to enter the garden of bliss?
- Urdu: کیا ان میں سے ہر ایک کی طمع یہ ہے کہ اسے جنّت النعیم میں داخل کر دیا جائے۔

- Arabic: كَلَّآ اِنَّا خَلَقْنٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُوْنَ
- Transliteration: KALLAAA INNAA KHALAQ NAHUM MIMMAA YA’LAMOON.
- English: By no means! Surely We have created them of what they know.
- Urdu: ہرگز نہیں انہیں تو معلوم ہے کہ ہم نے انہیں کس چیز سے پیدا کیا ہے۔

- Arabic: فَلَآ اُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ الْمَشٰرِقِ وَالْمَغٰرِبِ اِنَّا لَقٰدِرُوْنَ
- Transliteration: FALAAA UQSIMU BI RABBIL MASHAARIQI WAL MAGHAARIBI INNAA LAQAADIROON.
- English: But nay! I swear by the Lord of the Easts and the Wests that We are certainly able
- Urdu: میں تمام مشرق و مغرب کے پروردگار کی قسم کھا کر کہتا ہوں کہ ہم قدرت رکھنے والے ہیں۔

- Arabic: عَلٰٓى اَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوْقِيْنَ
- Transliteration: ALAAA AN NUBADDILA KHAIRAN MINHUM WA MAA NAHNU BI MASBOOQEEN.
- English: To bring instead (others) better than them, and We shall not be overcome.
- Urdu: اس بات پر کہ ان کے بدلے ان سے بہتر افراد لے آئیں اور ہم عاجز نہیں ہیں۔

- Arabic: فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوْضُوْا وَيَلْعَبُوْا حَتّٰى يُلٰقُوْا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِيْ يُوْعَدُوْنَ
- Transliteration: FAZARHUM YAKHOODOO WA YAL’ABOO HATTAA YULAAQOO YAWMA HUMUL LAZEE YOO’ADOON.
- English: Therefore leave them alone to go on with the false discourses and to sport until they come face to face with that day of theirs with which they are threatened;
- Urdu: لہذا انہیں چھوڑ دیجئے یہ اپنے باطل میں ڈوبے رہیں اور کھیل تماشہ کرتے رہیں یہاں تک کہ اس دن سے ملاقات کریں جس کا وعدہ کیا گیا ہے۔

- Arabic: يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُوْنَ مِنَ الْاَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَاَنَّهُمْ اِلٰى نُصُبٍ يُّوْفِضُوْنَ
- Transliteration: YAWMA YAKHRUJOONA MINAL AJDAASI SIRAA’AN KA ANNA HUM ILAA NUSUBINY YOOFIDOON.
- English: The day on which they shall come forth from their graves in haste, as if they were hastening on to a goal
- Urdu: جس دن یہ سب قبروں سے تیزی کے ساتھ نکلیں گے جس طرح کسی پرچم کی طرف بھاگے جا رہے ہوں۔

- Arabic: خَاشِعَةً اَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ذٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِيْ كَانُوْا يُوْعَدُوْنَ
- Transliteration: KHAASHI’ATAN ABSAARUHUM TARHAQUHUM ZILLAH; ZAALIKAL YAWMUL LAZEE KAANOO YOO’ADOON.
- English: Their eyes cast down; disgrace shall overtake them; that is the day which they were threatened with.
- Urdu: ان کی نگاہیں جھکی ہوں گی اور ذلت ان پر چھائی ہو گی اور یہی وہ دن ہو گا جس کا ان سے وعدہ کیا گیا ہے۔

- Transliteration: SADAQALLAHUL ALIYYUL AZEEM
- English: Almighty God the most high speaks the truth.
- Urdu: اللہ بزرگ و برتر نے سچ فرمایا ہے۔
