### City (Makki)

- Arabic: بِسْمِ اللہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ
- Transliteration: BISMILLAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM
- English: In the Name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful.
- Urdu: اللہ کے نام سے (شروع کرتا ہوں) جو بڑا مہربا ن نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔

- Arabic: لَآ اُقْسِمُ بِهٰذَا الْبَلَدِ
- Transliteration: LAAA UQSIMU BIHAAZAL BALAD.
- English: Nay! I swear by this city.
- Urdu: میں اس شہر کی قسم کھاتا ہوں۔

- Arabic: وَاَنْتَ حِلٌّۢ بِهٰذَا الْبَلَدِ
- Transliteration: WA ANTA HILLUM BIHAAZAL BALAD.
- English: And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-
- Urdu: اور تم اسی شہر میں تو رہتے ہو۔

- Arabic: وَوَالِدٍ وَّمَا وَلَدَ
- Transliteration: WA WAALIDINW WA MAA WALAD.
- English: And the begetter and whom he begot.
- Urdu: اور تمہارے باپ آدمؑ اور ان کی اولاد کی قسم۔

- Arabic: لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْاِنْسَانَ فِيْ كَبَدٍ
- Transliteration: LAQAD KHALAQNAL INSAANA FEE KABAD.
- English: Certainly We have created man to be in distress.
- Urdu: ہم نے انسان کو مشقت میں رہنے والا بنایا ہے۔

- Arabic: اَيَحْسَبُ اَن لَّنْ يَّقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ اَحَدٌ
- Transliteration: AYAHSABU AL-LAI YAQDIRA ’ALAIHI AHAD.
- English: Does he think that no one has power over him?
- Urdu: کیا اس کا خیال یہ ہے کہ اس پر کوئی قابو نہ پا سکے گا۔

- Arabic: يَقُوْلُ اَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا
- Transliteration: YAQOOLU AHLAKTU MAALAL LUBADAA.
- English: He shall say: I have wasted much wealth.
- Urdu: کہ وہ کہتا ہے کہ میں نے بے تحاشہ صرف کیا ہے۔

- Arabic: اَيَحْسَبُ اَن لَّمْ يَرَهٗٓ اَحَدٌ
- Transliteration: AYAHSABU AL LAM YARAHOOO AHAD.
- English: Does he think that no one sees him?
- Urdu: کیا اس کا خیال ہے کہ اس کو کسی نے نہیں دیکھا ہے۔

- Arabic: اَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهٗ عَيْنَيْنِ
- Transliteration: ALAM NAJ’AL LAHOO ’AYNAYN.
- English: Have We not given him two eyes
- Urdu: کیا ہم نے اس کے لئے دو آنکھیں نہیں قرار دی ہیں۔

- Arabic: وَلِسَانًا وَّشَفَتَيْنِ
- Transliteration: WA LISAANANW WA SHAFATAYN.
- English: And a tongue and two lips
- Urdu: اور زبان اور دو ہونٹ بھی۔

- Arabic: وَهَدَيْنٰهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ
- Transliteration: WA HADAYNAAHUN NAJDAYN.
- English: And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways?
- Urdu: اور ہم نے اسے دونوں راستوں کی ہدایت دی ہے۔

- Arabic: فَلَا اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ
- Transliteration: FALAQ TAHAMAL-’AQABAH.
- English: But he would not attempt the uphill road
- Urdu: پھر وہ گھاٹی پر سے کیوں نہیں گزرا۔

- Arabic: وَمَآ اَدْرٰكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ
- Transliteration: WA MAAA ADRAAKA MAL’AQABAH.
- English: And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is?
- Urdu: اور تم کیا جانو یہ گھاٹی کیا ہے۔

- Arabic: فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ
- Transliteration: FAKKU RAQABAH.
- English: (It is) the setting free of a slave
- Urdu: کسی گردن کا آزاد کرانا۔

- Arabic: اَوْ اِطْعٰمٌ فِيْ يَوْمٍ ذِيْ مَسْغَبَةٍ
- Transliteration: AW IT’AAMUN FEE YAWMIN ZEE MASGHABAH.
- English: Or the giving of food in a day of hunger
- Urdu: یا بھوک کے دن میں کھانا کھلانا۔

- Arabic: يَتِيْمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ
- Transliteration: YATEEMAN ZAA MAQRABAH.
- English: To an orphan, having relationship
- Urdu: کسی قرابتدار یتیم کو۔

- Arabic: اَوْ مِسْكِيْنًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ
- Transliteration: AW MISKEENAN ZAA MATRABAH.
- English: Or to the poor man lying in the dust.
- Urdu: یا خاکسار مسکین کو۔

- Arabic: ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ
- Transliteration: SUMMA KAANA MINAL LAZEENA AAMANOO WA TAWAASAW BISSABRI WA TAWAASAW BILMARHAMAH.
- English: Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion.
- Urdu: پھر وہ ان لوگوں میں شامل ہو جاتا جو ایمان لائے اور انہوں نے صبر اور مرحمت کی ایک دوسرے کو نصیحت کی۔

- Arabic: اُولٰۗئِكَ اَصْحٰبُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ
- Transliteration: ULAAA’IKA AS-HAABUL MAIMANAH.
- English: These are the people of the right hand.
- Urdu: یہی لوگ خو ش نصیبی والے ہیں۔

- Arabic: وَالَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا بِاٰيٰتِنَا هُمْ اَصْحٰبُ الْمَشْئَمَةِ
- Transliteration: WALLAZEENA KAFAROO BI AAYAATINAA HUM AS-HAABUL MASH’AMAH.
- English: And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand.
- Urdu: اور جن لوگوں نے ہماری آیات سے انکار کیا ہے وہ بد بختی والے ہیں۔

- Arabic: عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌ
- Transliteration: ALAIHIM NAARUM MU’SADAH.
- English: On them is fire closed over.
- Urdu: انہیں آگ میں ڈال کر اسے ہر طرف سے بند کر دیا جائے گا۔

- Transliteration: SADAQALLAHUL ALIYYUL AZEEM
- English: Almighty God the most high speaks the truth.
- Urdu: اللہ بزرگ و برتر نے سچ فرمایا ہے۔
