## About this text

Not one supplication but a short gathering of Qur'anic names and verses kept for death and the grave, under the section of solutions to particular problems.

It opens with the instruction the Qur'an itself gives — that to Allah belong the most beautiful names, so call on Him by them (7:180) — and then supplies the names that fit this moment: O Giver of life to the dead; the Lord, the Creator, the Originator; O Originator, O All-Knowing.

Between them sit the declaration of tawhid and, at the end, the call of Prophet Zakariya (a): "My Lord, leave me not alone, and You are the best of inheritors" (21:89).

## Text

- Arabic: وَلِلهِ الْاَسْمَاۗءُ الْحُسْنٰى فَادْعُوْهُ بِهَا۔۔۔
- Transliteration: WA LILLAAHIL ASMAAA ’UL HUSNAA FAD’OOHU BIHAA…
- English: And Allah’s are the best names, therefore call on Him thereby…
- Urdu: اور اللہ ہی کے لئے بہترین نام ہیں لہذا اسے ان ہی کے ذریعہ پکارو۔۔۔

- Arabic: یَا مُحْیِیِ الْاَمْوَاتِ
- Transliteration: YAA MUHYE-YIL AM-WAATE.
- English: O Giver of life to the dead. / O One who brings the dead to life.
- Urdu: اے مُردوں کو زندہ کرنے والے!

- Arabic: اَلرَّبُّ الْخَالِقُ الْبَارِیُٔ
- Transliteration: AR-RABBUL KHAALE-QUL BAARE-O.
- English: The Lord, the Creator, the Originator (who brings into existence).
- Urdu: وہی رب ہے، وہی پیدا کرنے والا ہے، اور وہی (ہر چیز کو) عدم سے وجود میں لانے والا ہے۔

- Arabic: لَا اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللہُ اَحَدًا صَمَدًا وَقُوَّۃً وَاِلَّا بِاللہِ
- Transliteration: LAA ILAAHA ILAL LAAHO AHA-DAN SAMA-DAN WA QUWWATA WA ILLAA BIL-LAAH.
- English: There is no god except Allah—(the) One, the Self-Sufficient; and there is no power except through Allah.
- Urdu: اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں وہ ایک ہے، بے نیاز ہے؛ اور طاقت (قوت) صرف اللہ ہی کی مدد سے ہے۔

- Arabic: یَابَدِیْعُ یَاعَلَّامُ
- Transliteration: YAA BADEE’O YAA A’LLAA-MO.
- English: O Originator (Creator without any example), O All-Knowing.
- Urdu: اے بے مثال پیدا کرنے والے، اے سب کچھ جاننے والے۔

- Arabic: وَزَكَرِيَّآ اِذْ نَادٰى رَبَّهٗ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِيْ فَرْدًا وَّاَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْوٰرِثِيْنَ
- Transliteration: WA ZAKARIYYAAA IZ NAADAA RABBAHOO RABBI LAA TAZARNEE FARDANW WA ANTA KHAIRUL WAARISEEN.
- English: And Zakariya, when he cried to his Lord: O my Lord leave me not alone; and Thou art the best of inheritors.
- Urdu: اور زکریاؑ کو یاد کرو کہ جب انہوں نے اپنے رب کو پکارا کہ پروردگار مجھے اکیلا نہ چھوڑ دینا کہ تو تمام وارثوں سے بہتر وارث ہے۔
