Who we are
The Fatima Zahra Imamia Centre is a Twelver Shia (Isna Ashari) community centre in North Ipswich. It was established in 2008 and is a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.
People look for the Centre under several names, and all of them fit. It is a mosque — a masjid — where the daily prayers and Jumu’ah are prayed. It is a hussainia, where the majalis of the Ahl al-Bayt (a) are held. The hall itself is Qasr-e-Zahra (s.a), which is the name on the Centre’s posters. And it is a community centre, because a good deal of what happens here — marriages, funerals, the madrasah, welfare — is not prayer at all.
The families who come here are Indian, Pakistani and Hazara, and they follow different maraji. That is deliberately reflected across this site: where communities observe a date differently, we show both positions rather than presenting one as the only correct one.
What happens here
- Friday prayer
- Jumu’ah when a khateeb is available and enough people can attend. Announced on the home page.
- Majalis
- Nightly through Muharram and Safar, and on the anniversaries of the Ahl al-Bayt (a).
- Marriages
- Nikah arranged through the Centre’s alim.
- Funerals and burial
- Ghusl, kafan, janaza and burial, day or night.
- The hall
- Available to the community for milad, dinners and family occasions.
Registered charity
The Centre is registered with the ACNC under ABN 66 129 175 686. It is run by a volunteer committee and funded entirely by the community it serves.
Donations to the Centre are not tax deductible. In Australia, advancing religion is not a deductible gift recipient category.
