Dates for
The start of this month has been confirmed on an announcement by another sighting body, reckoned on that body's own sighting region, so these dates are firm.
How the Centre establishes these dates
Hijri dates on this site are established by moon sighting, not by calculation. A month begins for the Centre when the new crescent has been sighted with the naked eye on our own horizon, south-east Queensland; where no sighting is confirmed here, the outgoing month is completed at 30 days. Dates shown as expected are subject to that confirmation. Members who follow a marja with a different ruling on the horizon, or on sighting through instruments, should follow their own marja — these dates govern the Centre’s programme.
These are Pakistan’s dates, calculated, not announced. A month there is expected to begin the day after the crescent can first be seen there by eye, and every date below may move by a day when it is announced in Pakistan. The Centre in North Ipswich keeps the Australian dates.
These are India’s dates, calculated, not announced. A month there is expected to begin the day after the crescent can first be seen there by eye, and every date below may move by a day when it is announced in India. The Centre in North Ipswich keeps the Australian dates.

The Hijri date, answered
- What is today's Hijri date in Australia?
- Today is 24 Rabi al-Thani 1448 AH at the Fatima Zahra Imamia Centre in North Ipswich, Queensland, which is Tuesday 6 October 2026. The Islamic day begins at Maghrib rather than at midnight, so the Hijri date changes in the evening. The start of Rabi al-Thani has been confirmed on an announcement by another sighting body, reckoned on that body's own sighting region, so this date is firm.
- When does the next Islamic month begin?
- Jumada al-Ula 1448 is expected to begin on or about Tuesday 13 October 2026, but that is an expectation and not a fixed date. Hijri months begin on the sighting of the new moon, which cannot be known in advance, so the start may move by a day. The Centre confirms each month once the moon has been sighted, and this calendar is marked expected or confirmed accordingly.
