26. Neighbours and Friends

The twenty-sixth supplication of al-Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya, of Imam Zayn al-Abidin (a) — the page's own heading names it "His Supplication for his Neighbours and Friends".
Almost all of it is asked FOR other people rather than for the reciter, and the list is unusually practical: that his neighbours and friends be given success in acting gently with their weak, remedying their lacks, visiting their sick, guiding the one who seeks guidance, counselling the one who asks advice, welcoming the one returning from travel, hiding their secrets, covering over their shameful things, helping the wronged among them, and giving what is due before it is asked for.
Only then does it turn to the reciter, and what it asks for him is a manner rather than a benefit: to repay their evildoer with good doing, to turn from their wrongdoer with forbearance, to lower his eyes before them, to be tender to the afflicted, and to grant them what he grants his own next of kin.
It ends by asking for the same back — that they be fortunate through him, and he through them.

His Supplication for his Neighbours and Friends
بِسْمِ اللہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ
Bismillaahir rahmaanir raheem
In the Name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful.
اللہ کے نام سے (شروع کرتا ہوں) جو بڑا مہربا ن نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّاٰلِهٖ وَتَوَلَّنِيْ فِيْ جِيْرَانِيْ وَمَوَالِيَّ الْعَارِفِيْنَ بِحَقِّنَا وَالْمُنَابِذِيْنَ لِاَعْدَاۗئِنَا بِاَفْضَلِ وَلَايَتِكَ۔
Allaahumma salli 'alaa muhammadin waaalihee watawallanee fee jeeraanee wamawaaliyya al-'aarifeena bihaqqinaa wal-munaabizeena lia'daa'inaa biafdali walaayatika. auto
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household and attend to me with Thy best attending in my neighbours and friends who recognize our right and war against our enemies!
اے اللہ! محمد اوران کی آل پر رحمت نازل فرما۔ اور میری اس سلسلہ میں بہترین نصرت فرما کہ میں اپنے ہمسایوں اوران دوستوں کے حقوق کا لحاظ رکھوں جو ہمارے حق کے پہچاننے والے اورہمارے دشمنوں کے مخالف ہیں۔
وَ وَفِّقْهُمْ لِاِقَامَةِ سُنَّتِكَ وَالْاَخْذِ بِمَحَاسِنِ اَدَبِكَ فِيْ اِرْفَاقِ ضَعِيْفِهِمْ وَسَدِّ خَلَّتِهِمْ وَعِيَادَةِ مَرِيْضِهِمْ وَهِدَايَةِ مُسْتَرْشِدِهِمْ وَمُنَاصَحَةِ مُسْتَشِيْرِهِمْ وَتَعَهُّدِ قَادِمِهِمْ وَكِتْمَانِ اَسْرَارِهِمْ وَسَتْرِ عَوْرَاتِهِمْ وَنُصْرَةِ مَظْلُوْمِهِمْ وَحُسْنِ مُوَاسَاتِهِمْ بِالْمَاعُوْنِ وَالْعَوْدِ عَلَيْهِمْ بِالْجِدَةِ وَالْافْضَالِ وَاِعْطَاۗءِ مَا يَجِبُ لَهُمْ قَبْلَ السُّؤَالِ۔
Wa waffiqhum liiqaamati sunnatika wal-akhzi bimahaasini adabika fee irfaaqi da'eefihim wasaddi khallatihim wa'iyaadati mareedihim wahidaayati mustarshidihim wamunaasahati mustasheerihim wata'ahhudi qaadimihim wakitmaani asraarihim wasatri 'awraatihim wanusrati mazloomihim wahusni muwaasaatihim bil-maa'ooni wal-'awdi 'alayhim bil-jidati wal-fdaali wai'taa'i maa yajibu lahum qabla as-su'aali. auto
Give (my neighbours and friends) success in performing Thy prescriptions and taking on the beauties of Thy courtesy through acting gently with their weak, remedying their lacks, visiting their sick, guiding their seeker of right guidance, giving good counsel to their seeker of advice, attending to the one among them who returns from travel, hiding their secrets, covering over their shameful things, helping their wronged, sharing kindly with them in goods, turning toward them with wealth and bestowal of bounty, and giving what is due to them before they ask!
اور انہیں اپنے طریقوں کے قائم کرنے اور عمدہ اخلاق وآداب سے آراستہ ہونے کی توفیق دے۔ اس طرح کہ وہ کمزوروں کے ساتھ نرم رویہ رکھیں اوران کے فقر کا مداوا کریں۔ مریضوں کی بیمار پرسی، طالبان ہدایت کی ہدایت، مشورہ کرنے والوں کی خیر خواہی اورتازہ وارد سے ملاقات کریں۔ رازوں کو چھپائیں۔ عیبوں پر پردہ ڈالیں۔ مظلوم کی نصرت اور گھریلو ضروریات کے ذریعہ حسن مواسات کریں اور بخشش وانعام سے فائدہ پہنچائیں اورسوال سے پہلے ان کے ضروریات مہیا کریں۔
وَاجْعَلْنِي اللّٰهُمَّ اَجْزِيْ بِالْاِحْسَانِ مُسِيْۗئَهُمْ وَاَعْرِضُ بِالتَّجَاوُزِ عَنْ ظَالِمِهِمْ وَاَسْتَعْمِلُ حُسْنَ الظَّنِّ فِيْ كَاۗفَّتِهِمْ وَاَتَوَلّٰى بِالْبِرِّ عَاۗمَّتَهُمْ وَاَغُضُّ بَصَرِيْ عَنْهُمْ عِفَّةً وَاُلِيْنُ جَانِبِيْ لَهُمْ تَوَاضُعًا وَاَرِقُّ عَلٰى اَهْلِ الْبَلَاۗءِ مِنْهُمْ رَحْمَةً وَاُسِرُّ لَهُمْ بِالْغَيْبِ مَوَدَّةً وَاُحِبُّ بَقَاۗءَ النِّعْمَةِ عِنْدَهُمْ نُصْحًا وَاُوْجِبُ لَهُمْ مَا اُوْجِبُ لِحَاۗمَّتِيْ وَاَرْعٰى لَهُمْ مَا اَرْعٰى لِخَاۗصَّتِي۔
Waj'alnee allaahumma ajzee bil-ihsaani musee'ahum waa'ridu bit-tajaawuzi 'an zaalimihim waasta'milu husna az-zanni fee kaaffatihim waatawallaa bil-birri 'aammatahum waaghuddu basaree 'anhum 'iffatan wauleenu jaanibee lahum tawaadu'an waariqqu 'alaa ahli al-balaa'i minhum rahmatan wausirru lahum bil-ghaybi mawaddatan wauhibbu baqaa'a an-ni'mati 'indahum nushan waoojibu lahum maa oojibu lihaammatee waar'aa lahum maa ar'aa likhaassatee. auto
Let me, O God, repay their evildoer with good doing, turn away from their wrongdoer with forbearance. have a good opinion of every one of them, attend to all of them with devotion, lower my eyes before them in continence, make mild my side toward them in humility, be tender toward the afflicted among them in mercy, make them happy in absence through affection, love that they continue to receive favour through good will, grant them what I grant my next of kin, and observe for them what I observe for my special friends!
اے اللہ! مجھے ایسا بنا کہ میں ان میں سے برے کے ساتھ بھلائی سے پیش آؤں اور ظالم سے چشم پوشی کرکے درگزر کروں اوران سب کے بارے میں حسن ظن سے کام لوں۔اور نیکی اور احسان کے ساتھ سب کی خبر گیری کروں۔ اور پرہیز گاری وعفت کی بنا پر ان (کے عیوب) سے آنکھیں بند رکھوں۔ تواضع وفروتنی کی رو سے ان سے نرم رویہ اختیار کروں اورشفقت کی بنا پر مصیبت زدہ کی دل جوئی کروں۔ ان کی غیبت میں بھی ان کی محبت کو دل میں لئے رہوں اورخلوص کی بنا پر ان کے پاس سدا نعمتوں کا رہنا پسند کروں اور جو چیزیں اپنے خاص قریبیوں کے لئے ضروری سمجھوں ان کے لئے بھی ضروری سمجھوں۔ اور جو مراعات اپنے مخصوصین سے کروں وہی مراعات ان سے بھی کروں۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّاٰلِهٖ وَارْزُقْنِيْ مِثْلَ ذٰلِكَ مِنْهُمْ وَاجْعَلْ لِيْ اَوْفَى الْحُظُوْظِ فِيْمَا عِنْدَهُمْ وَزِدْهُمْ بَصِيْرَةً فِيْ حَقِّيْ وَمَعْرِفَةً بِفَضْلِيْ حَتّٰى يَسْعَدُوْا بِيْ وَاَسْعَدَ بِهِمْ اٰمِيْنَ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ۔
Allaahumma salli 'alaa muhammadin waaalihee warzuqnee mithla zaalika minhum waj'al lee awfaa al-huzoozi feemaa 'indahum wazidhum baseeratan fee haqqee wama'rifatan bifadlee hattaa yas'adoo bee waas'ada bihim aameena rabba al-'aalameena. auto
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household, provide me the like of that from them, appoint for me the fullest share of what is with them, increase them in insight toward my right and knowledge of my excellence so that they will be fortunate through me and I fortunate through them! Amen, Lord of the worlds!
اے اللہ! محمد اوران کی آل پر رحمت نازل فرما اور مجھے بھی ان سے ویسے ہی سلوک کا روا دار قرار دے اورجو چیزیں ان کے پاس ہیں ان میں میرا حصہ وافر قرار دے اور انہیں میرے حق کی بصیرت اور میرے فضل وبرتری کی معرفت میں افزائش وترقی دے تا کہ وہ میری وجہ سے سعادت مند اور میں ان کی وجہ سے مثاب وماجور قرار پاؤں۔ آمین اے تمام جہان کے پروردگار۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ۔
Allahumma swalle alaa muhammadiw wa aale muhammadin
Allah’s (s.w.t) choicest blessings be upon Mohammed and his holy progeny.
اے معبود! رحمت نازل فرما حضرت محمدؐ اور انکی آل ؑپر۔
