ماہِ شعبان

1. Reward of Fasting and Seeking Forgiveness in the Month of Shaban

2. Shaikh Sadooq (r) has narrated through his chain on the authority of Imam Reza (a) that: “The fast of the month of Shaban is the expiation of major sins even if the sin is of any unlawful murder. If a person fasts for some days in this month than I am hopeful of his forgiveness.” The narrator of the tradition ‘Ibrahim Ibn Maimoon’ says that I asked: ‘Which is the best supplication in this month?’ He (a) said: “Forgiveness, verily seeking forgiveness 70 times in this month is like seeking forgiveness for 70000 times in other months.” I (narrator) asked: ‘How to seek forgiveness and what to say?’ Imam (a) said: Say like this…

   شیخ صدوقؒ نے اپنی سند کے ساتھ امام رضاؑ سے روایت کی ہے کہ امامؑ نے فرمایا: ماہِ شعبان کے روزے بڑے گناہوں کا کفّارہ ہیں، چاہے گناہ کوئی بھی ہو (حتیٰ کہ حرام قتل جیسا بڑا گناہ بھی)۔ اگر کوئی شخص اس مہینے میں چند دن روزے رکھے تو مجھے امید ہے کہ اللہ اسے بخش دے گا۔ راوی (ابراہیم بن میمون) کہتے ہیں: میں نے پوچھا: اس مہینے میں سب سے بہترین دعا کون سی ہے؟ امامؑ نے فرمایا: استغفار۔ بے شک اس مہینے میں ۷۰ مرتبہ استغفار کرنا دوسرے مہینوں میں ۷۰،۰۰۰ مرتبہ استغفار کرنے کے برابر ہے۔ میں نے پوچھا: استغفار کیسے کریں اور کیا کہیں؟ امامؑ نے فرمایا: یوں کہو۔۔۔

3. اَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ وَاَسْاَلُهُ التَّوْبَةَ۔

   AS-TAGH-FERUL-LAAHA WA AS-ALO-HUT TAWBATA.

   I seek forgiveness of Allah, and, repentant, beseech Him.

   بخشش چاہتا ہوں اﷲسے اور توبہ کی توفیق مانگتا ہوں۔

4. Reward of Fasting and Charity in the Month of Shaban

5. Shaikh Sadooq (r) has narrated through his chain on the authority of Abbas ibn Hilal, “I heard Abul Hasan Ali ibn Moosa al-Reza (a) say, Whoever fasts on one of the days in the month of Shaban for the sake of Allah or repents 70 times on one of the days in the month of Shaban will be resurrected by Allah, Mighty and Majestic be He, along with the nation of Allah’s Prophet (s). He will deserve to receive an honor from Allah. Allah will forbid the Fire from touching the corpse of whoever gives some charity in the month of Shaban, even if it be as much as half of a date. Allah will record two consecutive months of fasting for whoever fasts for three days in the month of Shaban and continues on fasting with the month of Ramazan.

   شیخ صدوقؒ نے اپنی سند کے ساتھ عباس بن ہلال سے روایت کی ہے کہ انہوں نے کہا: میں نے ابو الحسن علی بن موسیٰ الرضاؑ کو فرماتے ہوئے سنا: جو شخص ماہِ شعبان میں اللہ کی رضا کے لیے کسی ایک دن روزہ رکھے، یا ماہِ شعبان کے کسی ایک دن ۷۰ مرتبہ توبہ / استغفار کرے، اللہ عزّوجلّ قیامت کے دن اسے اپنے نبیؐ کی اُمت کے ساتھ اٹھائے گا۔ اور وہ اللہ کی طرف سے ایک خاص عزت / انعام کا مستحق ہوگا۔ اور جو شخص ماہِ شعبان میں کچھ صدقہ دے، چاہے وہ کھجور کے آدھے حصے کے برابر ہی کیوں نہ ہو، اللہ اس کے جسم کو آگ سے محفوظ رکھے گا۔ اور جو شخص ماہِ شعبان میں تین دن روزہ رکھے، پھر رمضان کے روزے بھی جاری رکھے، اللہ اس کے لیے دو مسلسل مہینوں کے روزے لکھ دے گا (یعنی دو ماہ کے روزوں کا ثواب عطا کرے گا)۔

6. Supplication for Each Day in the Month of Shaban

Rayyan ibn Salt reports that he had heard Abal Hasan Ali ibn Moosa al-Reza (a) say, The Almighty Allah will record security from the Fire and issue a permit to pass over the Bridge for whoever seeks Allah’s forgiveness by saying AS-TAGH-FERUL-LAAHA WA AS-ALO-HUT TAWBATA (I seek forgiveness of Allah, and repentant, beseech Him) 70 times on each day of the month of Shaban. And Almighty Allah will let him enter the Eternal Residence.

   ریان بن صَلت روایت کرتے ہیں کہ انہوں نے ابو الحسن علی بن موسیٰ الرضاؑ کو فرماتے ہوئے سنا: جو شخص ماہِ شعبان کے ہر دن ۷۰ مرتبہ یہ کہہ کر اللہ سے بخشش مانگے: اَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ وَأَسْأَلُهُ التَّوْبَةَ (یعنی: میں اللہ سے بخشش مانگتا ہوں اور اس سے توبہ قبول کرنے کی درخواست کرتا ہوں) تو اللہ تعالیٰ اس کے لیے آگ سے امان لکھ دے گا، اور اسے پل صراط سے گزرنے کی اجازت عطا فرمائے گا۔ اور اللہ تعالیٰ اسے ہمیشہ رہنے والے گھر (جنت) میں داخل کرے گا۔

8. Namaz on Night of 15th of Shaban

9. Hasan ibn Ali ibn Fazzaal, on the authority of his father quotes, I asked Ali ibn Moosa al-Reza (a) about the night of the middle of Shaban. The Imam (a) said, It is the night to get released from the Fire. On that night major sins will be forgiven. I said, Are there any additional prayers for that night? The Imam (a) said, It does not have any especial prayers. However, if you like to do a recommendable act on that night you can say the Namaz of Ja’far ibn Abi Talib and mention Allah - Mighty and Majestic be He -, ask for forgiveness and supplicate a lot. My father (a) said, ‘Supplications are accepted on that night. I said, The people say that that night is the night of Sekak. The Imam (a) said, That is the Night of Power (Qadr) in the month of Ramazan.

   حسن بن علی بن فضّال اپنے والد کے واسطے سے نقل کرتے ہیں، وہ کہتے ہیں: میں نے امام علی بن موسیٰ الرضاؑ سے ماہِ شعبان کی پندرہویں (نصفِ شعبان) رات کے بارے میں پوچھا۔ امامؑ نے فرمایا: یہ وہ رات ہے جس میں جہنم سے نجات ملتی ہے۔ اور اس رات بڑے بڑے گناہ معاف کیے جاتے ہیں۔ میں نے عرض کیا: کیا اس رات کے لیے کوئی خاص نماز بھی ہے؟ امامؑ نے فرمایا: اس کی کوئی مخصوص نماز نہیں ہے۔ البتہ اگر تم اس رات کوئی مستحب عمل کرنا چاہو تو نمازِ جعفرِ طیار (جعفر بن ابی طالب) پڑھو، اللہ عزّوجلّ کا ذکر کرو، استغفار کرو اور بہت زیادہ دعا مانگو۔ میرے والدؑ (یعنی امامؑ کے فرمان کے مطابق) نے فرمایا: اس رات دعائیں قبول ہوتی ہیں۔ میں نے عرض کیا: لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ یہ شبِ صَکّ ہے۔ امامؑ نے فرمایا: شبِ قدر تو ماہِ رمضان میں ہوتی ہے۔

10. Ziyarat of Imam Hussain (a) on 15th Rajab and 15th Shaban

11. Ahmed ibn Muhammad Abi Nasr Bazanti says: When I asked Imam Reza (a): In which month should we perform the Ziyarat of Imam Hussain (a)? He (a) replied: On fifteenth Rajab and fifteenth Shaban.

    احمد بن محمد ابو نصر بَزَنطی کہتے ہیں: میں نے امام رضاؑ سے پوچھا: ہم امام حسینؑ کی زیارت کس مہینے میں کریں؟ امامؑ نے فرمایا: پندرہویں رجب اور پندرہویں شعبان کو (زیارت کرو)۔

12. Supplication for the Last Days of the Month of Shaban

13. Abdul Salam ibn Saaleh al-Harawi narrates, “I went to see Abil Hasan Ali ibn Moosa al-Reza (a) on the last Friday in the month of Shaban. Imam Reza (a) told me, ‘O Aba Salt! Most of the month of Shaban has passed. Now this is its last Friday. Perform the good deeds that you neglected to do during all this month in the few remaining days. I advise you to do what is beneficial for you, and abandon doing what is of no use for you. Increase the amount of supplications, asking for Allah (swt)’s forgiveness, reciting the Qur’an, making repentance to Allah (swt) for the sins you have committed so that Allah (swt) turns towards you in this month while you have been sincere with your Lord, the Honorable the Exalted. Do not let the responsibility for anything you have been entrusted with remain on your shoulders. Return them to their owners. Do not let any hate for any believers remain in your heart. Throw it away. Do not let any sins that you have committed remain. Get rid of them. Fear Allah (swt) and rely on Him regarding your private and public affairs.

    عبدالسلام بن صالح ہَروی روایت کرتے ہیں: میں ماہِ شعبان کے آخری جمعہ کو امام ابو الحسن علی بن موسیٰ الرضاؑ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا۔ امام رضاؑ نے مجھ سے فرمایا: اے ابو صَلت! ماہِ شعبان کا زیادہ حصہ گزر چکا ہے اور یہ اس کا آخری جمعہ ہے۔ اب جو نیک اعمال تم نے اس مہینے میں چھوڑ دیے تھے، باقی رہ جانے والے چند دنوں میں ان کی تلافی کرو۔ میں تمہیں نصیحت کرتا ہوں کہ جو چیز تمہارے لیے فائدہ مند ہے اسے اختیار کرو، اور جو بے فائدہ ہے اسے چھوڑ دو۔ دعا زیادہ کرو، اللہ (عزوجل) سے زیادہ استغفار کرو، قرآن کی تلاوت بڑھاؤ، اور جن گناہوں کا ارتکاب کیا ہے ان پر اللہ سے توبہ کرو، تاکہ اللہ اس مہینے میں تمہاری طرف متوجہ ہو، اس حال میں کہ تم اپنے ربِ عزت و جلال کے ساتھ سچے (مخلص) ہو۔ اور جس امانت/ذمہ داری کا تم پر حق ہے اسے اپنے ذمہ باقی نہ رہنے دو، بلکہ اسے اس کے مالک کو واپس کرو۔ کسی مومن کے بارے میں اپنے دل میں کوئی کینہ نہ رکھو؛ اسے نکال دو۔ اور جو گناہ تم سے سرزد ہوئے ہیں انہیں باقی نہ رہنے دو؛ انہیں چھوڑ دو اور ان سے بچو۔ اللہ سے ڈرو، اور اپنے ظاہر و باطن تمام معاملات میں اسی پر بھروسہ کرو۔

14. وَمَنْ يَّتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهٗٓط اِنَّ اللهَ بَالِغُ اَمْرِهٖط قَدْ جَعَلَ اللهُ لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدْرًا۔

    …WA MAIY YATAWAKKAL ’ALAL LAAHI FAHUWA HUSBUH; INNAL LAAHA BAALIGHU AMRIH; QAD JA’ALAL LAAHU LIKULLI SHAI’IN QADRAA.

    …and whoever trusts in Allah, He is sufficient for him; surely Allah attains His purpose; Allah indeed has appointed a measure for everything.

    ۔۔۔اور جو خدا پر بھروسہ کرے گا خدا اس کے لئے کافی ہے بےشک خدا اپنے حکم کا پہنچانے والا ہے اس نے ہر شے کے لئے ایک مقدار معین کر دی ہے۔

15. You should often say the following in the remaining days of this month, as Allah, the Blessed the Sublime, frees many people from the Fire during this month for the respect they hold for the month of Ramazan…

    اس مہینے کے باقی رہ جانے والے دنوں میں تمہیں یہ کلمات بہت زیادہ پڑھنے چاہئیں، کیونکہ اللہ تبارک و تعالیٰ اس مہینے میں بہت سے لوگوں کو (آنے والے) ماہِ رمضان کی حرمت و احترام کی وجہ سے جہنم کی آگ سے آزاد کر دیتا ہے۔۔۔

16. اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ قَدْ غَفَرْتَ لَنَا فِيْ مَا مَضٰى‏ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا فِيْمَا بَقِيَ مِنْهُ۔

    ALLAAHUMMA IN LAM TAKUN QAD GHAFAR-TA LANAA FEE MAA MAZAA MIN SHA’BAA-NA FAGH-FIR LANA FEE-MAA BAQEYA MINHO.

    O Allah! If You have not forgiven us in the past days of Shaban, (please do) forgive us in the rest of it.

    خدا یا! ماہ شعبان کے گزشتہ ایام میں اگر میری مغفرت نہیں ہوئی ہو تو بقیہ دنوں میں میری مغفرت فرما۔
