Nawruz

About this day

Nawruz follows the solar year rather than the Hijri calendar, and is the one observance here that cannot be computed from a Hijri date. The sources record conflicting traditions about it, with al-Allama al-Majlisi holding that the hadiths recognising it are the more reliable, and Twelver families differ: some keep it, others do not. The Centre lists it as a cultural observance, and the date for this one is less certain than most.

Communities differ on this

The Centre’s congregation includes Indian, Pakistani, Irani, Hazara, Iraqi and Afghan families, and they do not all keep this on the same day. The date above is the one the Centre observes; it is not a ruling on anyone else’s.
