Marriage Lifeازدواجی زندگی

Just as the entire life of the Prophet (pbuh) was a perfect example, Lady Fatima (pbuh) also lived an unparalleled life in her husband’s home. Likewise, her husband, her father, and her children were all exemplary figures. The shared life of Imam Ali (pbuh) and Lady az-Zahra (pbuh) unfolded under the guidance and teachings of the Messenger of Islam (pbuh). They cooperated with one another in all matters of life. Financial hardship was often their constant companion, to the extent that they did not even possess the means to keep a servant or helper to assist Imam Ali (pbuh) in his difficult and demanding work. It was rarely the case that this compassionate and kind couple could sleep peacefully on a cool, small bed during cold nights. If they covered their feet with the blanket, their heads would remain uncovered, and if they covered their heads, their feet would be left bare. Lady az-Zahra (pbuh) was by nature content and inwardly independent. She had heard from her noble father that true independence does not lie in wealth, but rather in the richness and sufficiency of one’s soul and nature. She had also heard from her father that Allah, the Most Holy, wished to fill the deserts of Mecca with gold and grant them to him, but he said: “My Lord, I prefer that one day I remain hungry and on another day I eat to my fill, so that on the day I am hungry I may humble myself and supplicate before You, and on the day I am satisfied I may praise You and give thanks for Your blessings.”

It is narrated from Anas ibn Malik that one day the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) asked us: “What is the best thing for women?” None of us knew the answer. Imam Ali (pbuh) immediately went to Lady Fatima (pbuh) and related the entire matter to her. She replied: “Why did you not say that the best thing for women is that they do not see a non-mahram man, nor does a non-mahram man see them?” Imam Ali (pbuh) returned and presented this answer to the Prophet. The Messenger of Allah then asked: “O Ali (pbuh), who informed you of this answer?” He replied: “Fatima (pbuh).” At that moment, the Prophet said: “Indeed, Fatima (pbuh) is a part of my body.” Soon after, that modest home was illuminated by beloved and soul-refreshing children. Thus, this righteous couple was blessed with children such as Hasan (pbuh), Husain (pbuh), and Mohsin (pbuh), and Zainab (pbuh) and Umm Kulthum (pbuh). The names of the three sons were given by the Messenger of Allah, while the names of the two daughters were chosen by Lady az-Zahra (pbuh) herself.
