The eighth of Rabi al-Awwal marks the martyrdom of Imam al-Hasan al-Askari (a) in 260 AH, one of the major mourning days of the month. A small number of reports place it in a later month, but the eighth is the date kept in practice and the one on the Brisbane calendar covering Ipswich. The Centre marks the day with a majlis.
