Tasua falls on the ninth of Muharram, the day Shimr b. Dhi l-Jawshan entered Karbala and the Imam asked for respite. It is a major night in the Muharram programme, and Ziyarat Ashura is recited on the ninth, tenth and eleventh. In the night themes many communities keep, the ninth is associated with al-Abbas (a), and those themes vary from place to place.
