Mosque of Quba
On Monday, 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal, the Holy Prophet (s) entered a village called Quba which is 5 Kms. on the Hijrat route of Madina. He stayed there till Friday so that Hazrat Ali (a) returns the belongings entrusted to the Holy Prophet (s) to their respective owners and join him after fulfilling other duties along with his family members. On the other hand, the people of Medina got ready to welcome the Holy Prophet (s). The Holy Prophet (s) marked the boundaries of the Mosque with his spear on the ground. It is said that each of its sectors was of 66 yards. The Prophet (s) also worked in the construction of this Mosque. He used to carry stones to the construction site and do equal work like others. Some people used to request him to have a seat somewhere and order them but He used to say…
QAD AFLAHA MAN YA'MURU AL-MASAAJID. YAQRA'U AL-QUR'AANA QAA'IMAN WAQAA'IDAA.
One who builds a mosque and recites Holy Qur’an in it standing and sitting is successful.
The verse of Surah Tawbah (9:108) is revealed specifically for this mosque…
...LAMASJIDUN USSISA 'ALAA AT-TAQWAA MIN AWWALI YAWMIN AHAQQU AN TAQOOMA FEEHI FEEHI RIJAALUN YUHIBBOONA AN YATATAHHAROO WALLAAHU YUHIBBU AL-MUTTAHHIREEN.
…Certainly a masjid founded on piety from the very first day is more deserving that you should stand in it; in it are men who love that they should be purified; and Allah loves those who purify themselves.
The Messenger of Allah (s) used to visit the Mosque of Quba every Monday and pray there. A tradition from him says that "One who performs wuzu at his house and goes to the Mosque of Quba and prays 2 rakats namaz will get the reward of an Umrah."
Also, Imam Sadiq (a) said, "When you visit the mosques around Medina, go to the Mosque of Quba first and pray there as far as possible."
Upon entering the Mosque one should perform 2 rakats namaz of respect. Then recite Tasbeeh-e-Zahra (s) after that recite the Ziyarat Jame’a Kabir and then recite Allahumma innaka qulta wa qawloka.
There was a place of Hazrat Ali (a) behind this mosque and a salty water well in the front. There is no sign of this well today. It is said that the finger-ring of the Prophet (s) had fallen in it. Hence it is called ’Chahe Angushtari’ (well of finger-ring) while it is also called ’Chahe Aabe Dahaan’ (Well of saliva). It is said that the Holy Prophet (s) had put his saliva in this well because of which its water became sweet.
A group of hypocrites constructed a mosque in 9th Hijri so that they could oppose Islam and Muslims. The Prophet (s) was asked to pray in it for its inauguration and as an offering. The Holy Prophet (s) said that he would do so on a suitable occasion. But the revelation of the verse (9:107)... wal ladinat Takhad’u Masjidan Z’iraran wa kufran...’ destroyed their plans and the Prophet (s) ordered to demolish it.
WALLAZEENA ITTAKHAZOO MASJIDAN DIRAARAN WAKUFRAA...
And those who built a masjid to cause harm and for unbelief…
