Surah Maaida (5, 120 ayat)سورۂ مائدہ

In the Name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful.

اللہ کے نام سے (شروع کرتا ہوں) جو بڑا مہربان نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔

O you who believe! fulfill the obligations. The cattle quadrupeds are allowed to you except that which is recited to you, not violating the prohibition against game when you are entering upon the performance of the pilgrimage; surely Allah orders what He desires.

ایمان والو اپنے عہد و پیمان اور معاملات کی پابندی کرو تمہارے لئے تمام چوپائے حلال کردیئے گئے ہیں علاوہ ان کے جوتمہیں پڑھ کر سنائے جارہے ہیں، مگر حالتِ احرام میں شکار کو حلال مت سمجھ لینا بے شک اللہ جو چاہتا ہے حکم دیتا ہے۔

O you who believe! do not violate the signs appointed by Allah nor the sacred month, nor (interfere with) the offerings, nor the sacrificial animals with garlands, nor those going to the sacred house seeking the grace and pleasure of their Lord; and when you are free from the obligations of the pilgrimage, then hunt, and let not hatred of a people- because they hindered you from the Sacred Masjid- incite you to exceed the limits, and help one another in goodness and piety, and do not help one another in sin and aggression; and be careful of (your duty to) Allah; surely Allah is severe in requiting (evil).

ایمان والو !خبردار خدا کی نشانیوں کی حرمت کو ضائع نہ کرنا اور نہ محترم مہینے، قربانی کے جانور اور جن جانوروں کے گلے میں پٹّے باندھ دیئے گئے ہیں اور جو لوگ خانہ خدا کا ارادہ کرنے والے ہیں اور فضل پروردگار اور رضائے الٰہی کے طلبگار ہیں ان کی حرمت کی خلاف ورزی کرنا اور جب احرام ختم ہوجائے تو شکار کرو اور خبردار کسی قوم کی عداوت فقط اس بات پر کہ اس نے تمہیں مسجدالحرام سے روک دیا ہے تمہیں ظلم پر آمادہ نہ کردے۔ نیکی اور تقویٰ پر ایک دوسرے کی مدد کرو اور گناہ اور تعدّی پر آپس میں تعاون نہ کرنا اور اللہ سے ڈرتے رہنا کہ اس کا عذاب بہت سخت ہے۔

Forbidden to you is that which dies of itself, and blood, and flesh of swine, and that on which any other name than that of Allah has been invoked, and the strangled (animal) and that beaten to death, and that killed by a fall and that killed by being smitten with the horn, and that which wild beasts have eaten, except what you slaughter, and what is sacrificed on stones set up (for idols) and that you divide by the arrows; that is a transgression. This day have those who disbelieve despaired of your religion, so fear them not, and fear Me. This day have I perfected for you your religion and completed My favor on you and chosen for you Islam as a religion; but whoever is compelled by hunger, not inclining willfully to sin, then surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

تمہارے اوپر حرام کردیا گیا ہے مردار، خون، سور کا گوشت اور جو جانور غیر خدا کے نام پر ذبح کیا جائے اورمنخنقہ اور موقوذہ، اور متردیہ اور نطیحہ اور جس کو درندہ کھا جائے مگریہ کہ تم خود ذبح کرلو اور جو نصاب پر ذبح کیا جائے اور جس کی تیروں کے ذریعہ قرعہ اندازی کرو کہ یہ سب فسق ہے اور کفار تمہارے دین سے مایوس ہوگئے ہیں لہذا تم ان سے نہ ڈرو اور مجھ سے ڈرو۔ آج میں نے تمہارے لئے دین کو کامل کردیا ہے اور اپنی نعمتوں کو تمام کردیا ہے اور تمہارے لئے دین اسلام کو پسندیدہ بنادیا ہے لہذا جو شخص بھوک میں مجبور ہوجائے اور گناہ کی طرف مائل نہ ہو تو خدا بڑا بخشنے والا مہربان ہے۔

They ask you as to what is allowed to them. Say: The good things are allowed to you, and what you have taught the beasts and birds of prey, training them to hunt- you teach them of what Allah has taught you- so eat of that which they catch for you and mention the name of Allah over it; and be careful of (your duty to) Allah; surely Allah is swift in reckoning.

پیغمبر یہ تم سے سوال کرتے ہیں کہ ان کے لئے کیا حلال کیا گیا ہے تو کہہ دیجئے کہ تمہارے لئے تمام پاکیزہ چیزیں حلال ہیں اور جو کچھ تم نے شکاری کتوں کو سکھا رکھا ہے اور خدائی تعلیم میں سے کچھ ان کے حوالہ کر دیاہے تو جو کچھ وہ پکڑ کے لائیں اسے کھالو اور اس پر نام خدا ضرور لو اور اللہ سے ڈرو کہ وہ بہت جلد حساب کرنے والا ہے۔

This day (all) the good things are allowed to you; and the food of those who have been given the Book is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them; and the chaste from among the believing women and the chaste from among those who have been given the Book before you (are lawful for you); when you have given them their dowries, taking (them) in marriage, not fornicating nor taking them for paramours in secret; and whoever denies faith, his work indeed is of no account, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers.

آج تمہارے لئے تمام پاکیزہ چیزیں حلال کردی گئی ہیں اور اہلِ کتاب کا طعام بھی تمہارے لئے حلال ہے اور تمہارا طعام ان کے لئے حلال ہے اور اہلِ ایمان کی آزاد اور پاک دامن عورتیں یا ان کی آزاد عورتیں جن کو تم سے پہلے کتاب دی گئی ہے تمہارے لئے حلال ہے بشرطیکہ تم ان کی اجرت دے دو پاکیزگی کے ساتھ۔ نہ کھلم کھلا زنا کی اجرت کے طور پر اور نہ پوشیدہ طور پر دوستی کے انداز سے اور جو بھی ایمان سے انکار کرے گا اس کے اعمال یقینًا برباد ہوجائیں گے اور وہ آخرت میں گھاٹا اُٹھانے والوں میں ہوگا۔

O you who believe! when you rise up to prayer, wash your faces and your hands as far as the elbows, and wipe your heads and your feet to the ankles; and if you are under an obligation to perform a total ablution, then wash (yourselves) and if you are sick or on a journey, or one of you come from the privy, or you have touched the women, and you cannot find water, betake yourselves to pure earth and wipe your faces and your hands therewith, Allah does not desire to put on you any difficulty, but He wishes to purify you and that He may complete His favor on you, so that you may be grateful.

ایمان والو جب بھی نماز کے لئے اٹھو تو پہلے اپنے چہروں کو اور کہنیوں تک اپنے ہاتھوں کو دھوؤ اور اپنے سر اور گٹّے تک پیروں کا مسح کرو اور اگر جنابت کی حالت میں ہو تو غسل کرو اور اگر مریض ہو یا سفر کے عالم میں ہو یا پیخانہ وغیرہ نکل آیا ہے یا عورتوں کو باہم لمس کیاہے اور پانی نہ ملے تو پاک مٹی سے تیمم کرلو۔ اس طرح کہ اپنے چہرے اور ہاتھوں کا مسح کرلو کہ خدا تمہارے لئے کسی طرح کی زحمت نہیں چاہتا، بلکہ یہ چاہتا ہے کہ تمہیں پاک و پاکیزہ بنا دے اور تم پر اپنی نعمت کو تمام کردے شاید تم اس طرح اس کے شکر گزار بندے بن جاؤ۔

And remember the favor of Allah on you and His covenant with which He bound you firmly, when you said: We have heard and we obey, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, surely Allah knows what is in the breasts.

اور اپنے اوپر اللہ کی نعمت اور اس کے اس عہد کو یاد کرو جو اس نے تم سے لیاہے جب تم نے یہ کہاکہ ہم نے سن لیا اور اطاعت کی اور خبردار اللہ سے ڈرتے رہو کہ اللہ دل کے رازوں کا بھی جاننے والا ہے۔

O you who believe! Be upright for Allah, bearers of witness with justice, and let not hatred of a people incite you not to act equitably; act equitably, that is nearer to piety, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah; surely Allah is Aware of what you do.

ایمان والو خدا کے لئے قیام کرنے والے اور انصاف کے ساتھ گواہی دینے والے بنو اور خبردار کسی قوم کی عداوت تمہیں اس بات پر آمادہ نہ کردے کہ انصاف کو ترک کردو۔ انصاف کرو کہ یہی تقویٰ سے قریب تر ہے اور اللہ سے ڈرتے رہو کہ اللہ تمہارے اعمال سے خوب باخبر ہے۔

Allah has promised to those who believe and do good deeds (that) they shall have forgiveness and a mighty reward.

اللہ نے صاحبان ایمان اور عمل صالح والوں سے وعدہ کیا ہے کہ ان کے لئے مغفرت اور اجر عظیم ہے۔

And (as for) those who disbelieve and reject our communications, these are the companions of the flame.

اور جن لوگوں نے کفر اختیار کیا اور ہماری آیات کی تکذیب کی وہ سب کے سب جہنّمی ہیں۔

O you who believe! remember Allah’s favor on you when a people had determined to stretch forth their hands towards you, but He withheld their hands from you, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah; and on Allah let the believers rely.

ایمان والو! اپنے اوپر اللہ کی اس نعمت کو یاد کرو کہ جب ایک قوم نے تمہاری طرف ہاتھ بڑھانے کا ارادہ کیاتو خدا نے ان کے ہاتھوں کو تم تک پہنچنے سے روک دیا اور اللہ سے ڈرتے رہو کہ صاحبانِ ایمان اللہ ہی پر بھروسہ کرتے ہیں۔

And certainly Allah made a covenant with the children of Israel, and We raised up among them twelve chieftains; and Allah said: Surely I am with you; if you keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate and believe in My apostles and assist them and offer to Allah a goodly gift, I will most certainly cover your evil deeds, and I will most certainly cause you to enter into gardens beneath which rivers flow, but whoever disbelieves from among you after that, he indeed shall lose the right way.

اور بے شک اللہ نے بنی اسرائیل سے عہد لیا اور ہم نے ان میں سے بارہ نقیب بھیجے اور خدا نے یہ بھی کہہ دیاکہ ہم تمہارے ساتھ ہیں اگر تم نے نماز قائم کی اور زکوٰۃ ادا کی اور ہمارے رسولوں پر ایمان لے آئے اور ان کی مدد کی اور خدا کی راہ میں قرض حسنہ دیاتو ہم یقینًا تمہاری برائیوں سے درگزر کریں گے اور تمہیں ان باغات میں داخل کریں گے جن کے نیچے نہریں جاری ہوں گی، پھر جو اس کے بعد کفر کرے گا تو وہ بہت بُرے راستہ کی طرف بہک گیا ہے۔

But on account of their breaking their covenant We cursed them and made their hearts hard; they altered the words from their places and they neglected a portion of what they were reminded of; and you shall always discover treachery in them excepting a few of them; so pardon them and turn away; surely Allah loves those who do good (to others).

پھر ان کی عہد شکنی کی بنا پر ہم نے ان پر لعنت کی اور ان کے دلوں کو سخت بنا دیا وہ ہمارے کلمات کو ان کی جگہ سے ہٹا دیتے ہیں اور انہوں نے ہماری یاددہانی کا اکثر حصّہ فراموش کردیا ہے اور تم ان کی خیانتوں پر برابر مطلع ہوتے رہوگے علاوہ چند افراد کے، لہذا ان سے درگزر کرو اور ان کی طرف سے کنارہ کشی کرو کہ اللہ احسان کرنے والوں کو دوست رکھتا ہے۔

And with those who say, We are Christians, We made a covenant, but they neglected a portion of what they were reminded of, therefore We excited among them enmity and hatred to the day of resurrection; and Allah will inform them of what they did.

اور جن لوگوں کا کہنا ہے کہ ہم نصرانی ہیں ہم نے ان سے بھی عہد لیا اور انہوں نے بھی ہماری نصیحت (انجیل) کے ایک حصّہ کو فراموش کردیا تو ہم نے بطور سزا ان کے درمیان عداوت اور بغض کو قیامت تک کے لئے راستہ دے دیا اور عنقریب خدا انہیں ان باتوں سے باخبر کرے گا جو وہ انجام دے رہے تھے۔

O followers of the Book! indeed Our Apostle has come to you making clear to you much of what you concealed of the Book and passing over much; indeed, there has come to you light and a clear Book from Allah;

اے اہل کتاب تمہارے پاس ہمارا رسول آچکا ہے جو اُن میں سے بہت سی باتوں کی وضاحت کررہا ہے جن کو تم کتابِ خدا میں سے چھپا رہے تھے اور بہت سی باتوں سے درگزر بھی کرتا ہے تمہارے پاس خدا کی طرف سے نور اور روشن کتاب آچکی ہے۔

With it Allah guides him who will follow His pleasure into the ways of safety and brings them out of utter darkness into light by His will and guides them to the right path.

جس کے ذریعہ خدا اپنی خوشنودی کا اتباع کرنے والوں کو سلامتی کے راستوں کی ہدایت کرتا ہے اور انہیں تاریکیوں سے نکال کر اپنے حکم سے نور کی طرف لے آتا ہے اور انہیں صراط مستقیم کی ہدایت کرتا ہے۔

Certainly they disbelieve who say: Surely, Allah- He is the Messiah, son of Marium. Say: Who then could control anything as against Allah when He wished to destroy the Messiah son of Marium and his mother and all those on the earth? And Allah’s is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and what is between them; He creates what He pleases; and Allah has power over all things.

یقینًا وہ لوگ کافر ہیں جن کا کہنا یہ ہے کہ مسیح ابن مریمؑ ہی اللہ ہیں۔ پیغمبر آپ ان سے کہئے کہ پھر خدا کے مقابلہ میں کون کسی امر کا صاحبِ اختیار ہوگا اگر وہ مسیح بن مریمؑ اور ان کی ماں اور سارے اہل زمین کو مار ڈالنا چاہے اور اللہ ہی کے لئے زمین و آسمان اور ان کے درمیان کی کل حکومت ہے۔ وہ جسے بھی چاہتا ہے پیدا کرتا ہے اور وہ ہر شے پر قدرت رکھنے والا ہے۔

And the Jews and the Christians say: We are the sons of Allah and His beloved ones. Say: Why does He then chastise you for your faults? Nay, you are mortals from among those whom He has created, He forgives whom He pleases and chastises whom He pleases; and Allah’s is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, and to Him is the eventual coming.

اور یہودیوں اور عیسائیوں نے یہ کہنا شروع کردیا کہ ہم اللہ کے فرزند اور اس کے دوست ہیں تو پیغمبر آپ کہہ دیجئے کہ پھر خدا تم پر تمہارے گناہوں کی بنا پر عذاب کیوں کرتا ہے، بلکہ تم اس کی مخلوقات میں سے بشر ہو اور وہ جس کو چاہتا ہے بخش دیتا ہے اور جس پر چاہتا ہے عذاب کرتا ہے اور اس کے لئے زمین و آسمان اور ان کے درمیان کی کل کائنات ہے اور اسی کی طرف سب کی بازگشت ہے۔

O followers of the Book! indeed Our Apostle has come to you explaining to you after a cessation of the (mission of the) apostles, lest you say: There came not to us a giver of good news or a warner, so indeed there has come to you a giver of good news and a warner; and Allah has power over all things.

اے اہلِ کتاب تمہارے پاس رسولوں کے ایک وقفہ کے بعد ہمارا یہ رسول آیا ہے کہ تم یہ نہ کہو کہ ہمارے پاس کوئی بشیر و نذیر نہیں آیا تھا تو لو یہ بشیر و نذیر آگیا ہے اور خدا ہر شے پر قادر ہے۔

And when Musa said to his people: O my people! remember the favor of Allah upon you when He raised prophets among you and made you kings and gave you what He had not given to any other among the nations.

اور اس وقت کو یاد کرو جب موسٰی نے اپنی قوم سے کہا کہ اے قوم اپنے اوپر اللہ کی نعمت کو یاد کرو جب اس نے تم میں انبیاء قرار دئیے اور تمہیں بادشاہ بنایا اور تمہیں وہ سب کچھ دے دیا جو عالمین میں کسی کو نہیں دیا تھا۔

O my people! enter the holy land which Allah has prescribed for you and turn not on your backs for then you will turn back losers.

اور اے قوم اس ارضِ مقدس میں داخل ہوجاؤ جسے اللہ نے تمہارے لئے لکھ دیا ہے اور میدان سے اُلٹے پاؤں نہ پلٹ جاؤ کہ اُلٹے خسارہ والوں میں سے ہوجاؤ گے۔

They said: O Musa! surely there is a strong race in it, and we will on no account enter it until they go out from it, so if they go out from it, then surely we will enter.

ان لوگوں نے کہا کہ موسٰیؑ وہاں تو جابروں کی قوم آباد ہے اور ہم اس وقت تک داخل نہ ہوں گے جب تک وہ وہاں سے نکل نہ جائیں پھر اگر وہ نکل گئے تو ہم یقینًا داخل ہوجائیں گے۔

Two men of those who feared, upon both of whom Allah had bestowed a favor, said: Enter upon them by the gate, for when you have entered it you shall surely be victorious, and on Allah should you rely if you are believers.

مگر دو انسان جنہیں خدا کا خوف تھا اور ان پر خدا نے فضل و کرم کیا تھا انہوں نے کہا کہ ان کے دروازے سے داخل ہوجاؤ۔ اگر تم دروازے میں داخل ہوگئے تو یقینًا غالب آجاؤ گے اور اللہ پر بھروسہ کرو اگر تم صاحبانِ ایمان ہو۔

They said: O Musa! we shall never enter it so long as they are in it; go therefore you and your Lord, then fight you both, surely we will here sit down.

ان لوگوں نے کہا کہ موسٰیؑ ہم ہرگز وہاں داخل نہ ہوں گے جب تک وہ لوگ وہاں ہیں۔ آپ اپنے پروردگار کے ساتھ جاکر جنگ کیجئے ہم یہاں بیٹھے ہوئے ہیں۔

He said: My Lord! Surely I have no control (upon any) but my own self and my brother; therefore make a separation between us and the nation of transgressors.

موسٰیؑ نے کہا پروردگار میں صرف اپنی ذات اور اپنے بھائی کا اختیار رکھتا ہوں لہذا ہمارے اور اس فاسق قوم کے درمیان جدائی پیدا کردے۔

He said: So it shall surely be forbidden to them for forty years, they shall wander about in the land, therefore do not grieve for the nation of transgressors.

ارشاد ہوا کہ اب ان پر چالیس سال حرام کردئیے گئے کہ یہ زمین میں چکّر لگاتے رہیں گے لہذا تم اس فاسق قوم پر افسوس نہ کرو۔

And relate to them the story of the two sons of Adam with truth when they both offered an offering, but it was accepted from one of them and was not accepted from the other. He said: I will most certainly slay you. (The other) said: Allah only accepts from those who guard (against evil).

اور پیغمبرؐآپ ان کو آدمؑ کے دونوں فرزندوں کا سچّا قصّہ پڑھ کر سنائیے کہ جب دونوں نے قربانی دی اور ایک کی قربانی قبول ہوگئی اور دوسرے کی نہ ہوئی تو اس نے کہا کہ میں تجھے قتل کردوں گا تو دوسرے نے جواب دیا کہ میرا کیا قصور ہے خدا صرف صاحبانِ تقویٰ کے اعمال کو قبول کرتا ہے۔

If you will stretch forth your hand towards me to slay me, I am not one to stretch forth my hand towards you to slay you: surely I fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds:

اگر آپ میری طرف قتل کے لئے ہاتھ بڑھائیں گے بھی تو میں آپ کی طرف ہرگز ہاتھ نہ بڑھاؤں گا کہ میں عالمین کے پالنے والے خدا سے ڈرتا ہوں۔

Surely I wish that you should bear the sin committed against me and your own sin, and so you would be of the inmates of the fire, and this is the recompense of the unjust.

میں چاہتا ہوں کہ آپ میرے اور اپنے دونوں کے گناہوں کا مرکز بن جائیے اور جہنمیوں میں شامل ہوجائیے کہ ظالمین کی یہی سزا ہے۔

Then his mind facilitated to him the slaying of his brother so he slew him; then he became one of the losers.

پھر اس کے نفس نے اسے بھائی کے قتل پر آمادہ کردیا اور اس نے اسے قتل کردیا اور وہ خسارہ والوں میں شامل ہوگیا۔

Then Allah sent a crow digging up the earth so that he might show him how he should cover the dead body of his brother. He said: Woe me! do I lack the strength that I should be like this crow and cover the dead body of my brother? So he became of those who regret.

پھر خدا نے ایک کوّا بھیجا جو زمین کھود رہا تھا کہ اسے دکھلائے کہ بھائی کی لاش کو کس طرح چھپائے گا تو اس نے کہا کہ افسوس میں اس کوّے کے جیسا بھی نہ ہوسکا کہ اپنے بھائی کی لاش کو زمین میں چھپا دیتا اور اس طرح وہ نادمین اور پشیمان لوگوں میں شامل ہوگیا۔

For this reason did We prescribe to the children of Israel that whoever slays a soul, unless it be for manslaughter or for mischief in the land, it is as though he slew all men; and whoever keeps it alive, it is as though he kept alive all men; and certainly Our apostles came to them with clear arguments, but even after that many of them certainly act extravagantly in the land.

اسی بنا پر ہم نے بنی اسرائیل پر لکھ دیا کہ جو شخص کسی نفس کو، کسی نفس کے بدلے یا روئے زمین میں فساد کی سزا کے علاوہ قتل کرڈالے گا اس نے گویا سارے انسانوں کو قتل کردیا اور جس نے ایک نفس کو زندگی دے دی اس نے گویا سارے انسانوں کو زندگی دے دی اور بنی اسرائیل کے پاس ہمارے رسول کھلی ہوئی نشانیاں لے کر آئے مگر اس کے بعد بھی ان میں کے اکثر لوگ زمین میں زیادتیاں کرنے والے ہی رہے۔

The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His apostle and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement

بس خدا و رسول سے جنگ کرنے والے اور زمین میں فساد کرنے والوں کی سزا یہی ہے کہ انہیں قتل کردیا جائے یا سولی پر چڑھا دیا جائے یا ان کے ہاتھ اور پیر مختلف سمت سے قطع کردئیے جائیں یا انہیں ارضِ وطن سے نکال باہر کیا جائے، یہ ان کے لئے دنیا میں رسوائی ہے اور ان کے لئے آخرت میں عذابِ عظیم ہے۔

Except those who repent before you have them in your power; so know that Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

علاوہ ان لوگوں کے جو تمہارے قابو میں آنے سے پہلے ہی توبہ کرلیں تو سمجھ لو کہ خدا بڑا بخشنے والا مہربان ہے۔

O you who believe! be careful of (your duty to) Allah and seek means of nearness to Him and strive hard in His way that you may be successful.

ایمان والو اللہ سے ڈرو اور اس تک پہنچنے کا وسیلہ تلاش کرو اوراس کی راہ میں جہاد کرو کہ شاید اس طرح کامیاب ہوجاؤ۔

Surely (as for) those who disbelieve, even if they had what is in the earth, all of it, and the like of it with it, that they might ransom themselves with it from the punishment of the day of resurrection, it shall not be accepted from them, and they shall have a painful punishment.

یقینًا جن لوگوں نے کفر اختیار کیا اگر ان کے پاس ساری زمین کا سرمایہ ہو اور اتنا ہی اور شامل کردیں کہ روزِ قیامت کے عذاب کا بدلہ ہوجائے تو یہ معاوضہ قبول نہ کیا جائے گا اور ان کے لئے دردناک عذاب ہوگا۔

They would desire to go forth from the fire, and they shall not go forth from it, and they shall have a lasting punishment.

یہ لوگ چاہتے ہیں جہنّم سے نکل جائیں حالانکہ یہ نکلنے والے نہیں ہیں اور ان کے لئے ایک مستقل عذاب ہے۔

And (as for) the man who steals and the woman who steals, cut off their hands as a punishment for what they have earned, an exemplary punishment from Allah; and Allah is Mighty, Wise.

چور مرد اور چور عورت دونوں کے ہاتھ کاٹ دو کہ یہ ان کے لئے بدلہ اور خدا کی طرف سے ایک سزا ہے اور خدا صاحبِ عزّت بھی ہے اور صاحبِ حکمت بھی ہے۔

But whoever repents after his iniquity and reforms (himself), then surely Allah will turn to him (mercifully); surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

پھر ظلم کے بعد جو شخص توبہ کرلے اور اپنی اصلاح کرلے تو خدا اس کی توبہ قبول کرلے گا کہ اللہ بڑا بخشنے والا اور مہربان ہے۔

Do you not know that Allah- His is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth; He chastises whom He pleases; and forgives whom He pleases and Allah has power over all things.

کیا تم کو نہیں معلوم کہ زمین و آسمان کا ملک صرف خدا ہی کے لئے ہے وہ جس پر چاہتا ہے عذاب کرتا ہے اور جس کو چاہتا ہے بخش دیتا ہے اور اللہ ہر شے پر قادر و مختار ہے۔

O Apostle! let not those grieve you who strive together in hastening to unbelief from among those who say with their mouths: We believe, and their hearts do not believe, and from among those who are Jews; they are listeners for the sake of a lie, listeners for another people who have not come to you; they alter the words from their places, saying: If you are given this, take it, and if you are not given this, be cautious; and as for him whose temptation Allah desires, you cannot control anything for him with Allah. Those are they for whom Allah does not desire that He should purify their hearts; they shall have disgrace in this world, and they shall have a grievous chastisement in the hereafter.

اے رسول ایمان کا دعویٰ کرنے والوں میں جو لوگ کفر کی طرف جلد بازی سے بڑھ رہے ہیں ان کی حرکات سے آپ رنجیدہ نہ ہوں۔ یہ صرف زبان سے ایمان کا نام لیتے ہیں اور ان کے دل مومن نہیں ہیں اور یہودیوں میں سے بھی بعض ایسے ہیں جو جھوٹی باتیں سنتے ہیں اور دوسری قوم والے جو آپ کے پاس حاضر نہیں ہوئے انہیں سناتے ہیں۔ یہ کلمات کو ان کی جگہ سے ہٹا دیتے ہیں اور لوگوں سے کہتے ہیں کہ اگر پیغمبر کی طرف سے یہی دیا جائے تو لے لینا اور اگر یہ نہ دیا جائے تو پرہیز کرنا اور جس کے فتنہ کے بارے میں خدا ارادہ کرلے اس کے بارے میں آپ کا کوئی اختیار نہیں ہے یہ وہ افراد ہیں جن کے بارے میں خدا نے یہ ارادہ ہی نہیں کیا کہ زبردستی ان کے دلوں کو پاک کردے گا۔ ان کے لئے دنیا میں بھی رسوائی ہے اور آخرت میں بھی عذابِ عظیم ہے۔

(They are) listeners of a lie, devourers of what is forbidden; therefore if they come to you, judge between them or turn aside from them, and if you turn aside from them, they shall not harm you in any way; and if you judge, judge between them with equity; surely Allah loves those who judge equitably.

یہ جھوٹ کے سننے والے اور حرام کے کھانے والے ہیں لہذا اگر آپ کے پاس مقدمہ لے کر آئیں تو آپ کو اختیار ہے کہ فیصلہ کردیں یا اعراض کرلیں کہ اگر اعراض بھی کرلیں گے تو یہ آپ کو کوئی نقصان نہ پہنچا سکیں گے لیکن اگر فیصلہ ہی کریں تو انصاف کے ساتھ کریں کہ خدا انصاف کرنے والوں کو دوست رکھتا ہے۔

And how do they make you a judge and they have the Taurat wherein is Allah’s judgment? Yet they turn back after that, and these are not the believers.

اور یہ کس طرح آپ سے فیصلہ کرائیں گے جب کہ ان کے پاس توریت موجود ہے جس میں حکمِ خدا بھی ہے اور یہ اس کے بعد بھی منہ پھیر لیتے ہیں اور پھر ایمان لانے والے نہیں ہیں۔

Surely We revealed the Taurat in which was guidance and light; with it the prophets who submitted themselves (to Allah) judged (matters) for those who were Jews, and the masters of Divine knowledge and the doctors, because they were required to guard (part) of the Book of Allah, and they were witnesses thereof; therefore fear not the people and fear Me, and do not take a small price for My communications; and whoever did not judge by what Allah revealed, those are they that are the unbelievers.

بےشک ہم نے توریت کو نازل کیا ہے جس میں ہدایت اور نور ہے اور اس کے ذریعہ اطاعت گزار انبیاء یہودیوں کے لئے فیصلہ کرتے ہیں اور اللہ والے اور علمائے یہود اس چیز سے فیصلہ کرتے ہیں جس کا کتابِ خدا میں ان کو محافظ بنایا گیا ہے اور جس کے یہ گواہ بھی ہیں لہذا تم ان لوگوں سے نہ ڈرو صرف ہم سے ڈرو اور خبردار تھوڑی سی قیمت کے لئے ہماری آیات کا کاروبار نہ کرنا اور جو بھی ہمارے نازل کئے ہوئے قانون کے مطابق فیصلہ نہ کرے گا وہ سب کافر شمار ہوں گے۔

And We prescribed to them in it that life is for life, and eye for eye, and nose for nose, and ear for ear, and tooth for tooth, and (that there is) reprisal in wounds; but he who foregoes it, it shall be an expiation for him; and whoever did not judge by what Allah revealed, those are they that are the unjust.

اور ہم نے توریت میں یہ بھی لکھ دیا ہے کہ جان کا بدلہ جان اور آنکھ کا بدلہ آنکھ اور ناک کا بدلہ ناک اور کان کا بدلہ کان اور دانت کا بدلہ دانت ہے اور زخموں کا بھی بدلہ لیا جائے گا اب اگر کوئی شخص معاف کردے تو یہ اس کے گناہوں کا بھی کفارہ ہوجائے گا اور جو بھی خدا کے نازل کردہ حکم کے خلاف فیصلہ کرے گا وہ ظالموں میں سے شمار ہوگا۔

And We sent after them in their footsteps Isa, son of Marium, verifying what was before him of the Taurat and We gave him the Injeel in which was guidance and light, and verifying what was before it of Taurat and a guidance and an admonition for those who guard (against evil).

اور ہم نے ان ہی انبیاء کے نقشِ قدم پر عیسٰی بن مریمؑ کو چلادیا جو اپنے سامنے کی توریت کی تصدیق کرنے والے تھے اور ہم نے انہیں انجیل دے دی جس میں ہدایت اور نور تھا اور وہ اپنے سامنے کی توریت کی تصدیق کرنے والی اور ہدایت تھی اور صاحبانِ تقویٰ کے لئے سامانِ نصیحت تھی۔

And the followers of the Injeel should have judged by what Allah revealed in it; and whoever did not judge by what Allah revealed, those are they that are the transgressors.

اہلِ انجیل کو چاہئے کہ خدا نے جو حکم نازل کیا ہے اس کے مطابق فیصلہ کریں کہ جو بھی تنزیلِ خدا کے مطابق فیصلہ نہ کرے گا وہ فاسقوں میں شمار ہوگا۔

And We have revealed to you the Book with the truth, verifying what is before it of the Book and a guardian over it, therefore judge between them by what Allah has revealed, and do not follow their low desires (to turn away) from the truth that has come to you; for everyone of you did We appoint a law and a way, and if Allah had pleased He would have made you (all) a single people, but that He might try you in what He gave you, therefore strive with one another to hasten to virtuous deeds; to Allah is your return, of all (of you), so He will let you know that in which you differed;

اور اے پیغمبر ہم نے آپ کی طرف کتاب نازل کی ہے جو اپنے پہلے کی توریت اور انجیل کی تصدیق اور محافظ ہے لہذا آپ ان کے درمیان تنزیل خدا کے مطابق فیصلہ کریں اور خدا کی طرف سے آئے ہوئے حق سے الگ ہوکر ان کی خواہشات کا اتباع نہ کریں، ہم نے سب کے لئے الگ الگ شریعت اور راستہ مقرر کردیا ہے اور خدا چاہتا تو سب کو ایک ہی امت بنا دیتا لیکن وہ اپنے دئیے ہوئے قانون سے تمہاری آزمائش کرنا چاہتا ہے لہذا تم سب نیکیوں کی طرف سبقت کرو کہ تم سب کی بازگشت اللہ ہی کی طرف ہے۔ وہاں وہ تمہیں ان تمام باتوں سے باخبر کرے گا جن میں تم اختلاف کررہے تھے۔

And that you should judge between them by what Allah has revealed, and do not follow their low desires, and be cautious of them, lest they seduce you from part of what Allah has revealed to you; but if they turn back, then know that Allah desires to afflict them on account of some of their faults; and most surely many of the people are transgressors.

اور پیغمبر آپ ان کے درمیان تنزیلِ خدا کے مطابق فیصلہ کریں اور ان کی خواہشات کا اتباع نہ کریں اور اس بات سے بچتے رہیں کہ یہ بعض احکام الٰہی سے منحرف کردیں۔ پھر اگر یہ خود منحرف ہوجائیں تو یاد رکھیں کہ خدا ان کو ان کے بعض گناہوں کی مصیبت میں مبتلا کرنا چاہتا ہے اور انسانوں کی اکثریت فاسق اور دائرۂ اطاعت سے خارج ہے۔

Is it then the judgment of (the times of) ignorance that they desire? And who is better than Allah to judge for a people who are sure?

کیا یہ لوگ جاہلیت کا حکم چاہتے ہیں جب کہ صاحبانِ یقین کے لئے اللہ کے فیصلہ سے بہتر کس کا فیصلہ ہوسکتا ہے۔

O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.

ایمان والو یہودیوں اور عیسائیوں کو اپنا دوست اور سرپرست نہ بناؤ کہ یہ خود آپس میں ایک دوسرے کے دوست ہیں اور تم میں سے کوئی انہیں دوست بنائے گا تو ان ہی میں شمار ہوجائے گا بےشک اللہ ظالم قوم کی ہدایت نہیں کرتا۔

But you will see those in whose hearts is a disease hastening towards them, saying: We fear lest a calamity should befall us; but it may be that Allah will bring the victory or a punishment from Himself, so that they shall be regretting on account of what they hid in their souls.

پیغمبر آپ دیکھیں گے کہ جن کے دلوں میں نفاق کی بیماری ہے وہ دوڑ دوڑ کر ان کی طرف جارہے ہیں اور یہ عذر بیان کرتے ہیں کہ ہمیں گردشِ زمانہ کا خوف ہے۔ پس عنقریب خدا اپنی طرف سے فتح یا کوئی دوسرا امر لے آئے گا تو یہ اپنے دل کے چھپائے ہوئے راز پر پشیمان ہوجائیں گے۔

And those who believe will say: Are these they who swore by Allah with the most forcible of their oaths that they were most surely with you? Their deeds shall go for nothing, so they shall become losers.

اور صاحبانِ ایمان کہیں گے کہ کیا یہی لوگ ہیں جنہوں نے نامِ خدا پر سخت ترین قسمیں کھائی تھیں کہ ہم تمہارے ساتھ ہیں تو اب ان کے اعمال برباد ہوگئے اور یہ خسارہ والے ہوگئے۔

O you who believe! whoever from among you turns back from his religion, then Allah will bring a people, He shall love them and they shall love Him, lowly before the believers, mighty against the unbelievers, they shall strive hard in Allah’s way and shall not fear the censure of any censurer; this is Allah’s grace, He gives it to whom He pleases, and Allah is Ample-giving, Knowing.

ایمان والو تم میں سے جو بھی اپنے دین سے پلٹ جائے گا، تو عنقریب خدا ایک قوم کو لے آئے گا جو اس کی محبوب اور اس سے محبت کرنے والی مومنین کے سامنے خاکسار اور کفار کے سامنے صاحبِ عزّت، راہِ خدا میں جہاد کرنے والی اور کسی ملامت کرنے والے کی ملامت کی پرواہ نہ کرنے والی ہوگی۔ یہ فضلِ خدا ہے وہ جسے چاہتا ہے عطا کرتا ہے اور وہ صاحبِ وسعت اور علیم و دانا بھی ہے۔

Only Allah is your Guardian and His Apostle and those who believe, those who keep up prayers and pay the poor-rate while they bow.

ایمان والو بس تمہارا ولی اللہ ہے اور اس کا رسول اور وہ صاحبانِ ایمان جو نماز قائم کرتے ہیں اور حالت رکوع میں زکوٰۃ دیتے ہیں۔

And whoever takes Allah and His apostle and those who believe for a guardian, then surely the party of Allah are they that shall be triumphant.

اور جو بھی اللہ، رسول اور صاحبانِ ایمان کو اپنا سرپرست بنائے گا تو اللہ کی ہی جماعت غالب آنے والی ہے۔

O you who believe! do not take for guardians those who take your religion for a mockery and a joke, from among those who were given the Book before you and the unbelievers; and be careful of (your duty to) Allah if you are believers.

ایمان والو خبردار اہلِ کتاب میں جن لوگوں نے تمہارے دین کو مذاق اور تماشہ بنالیا ہے اور دیگر کفار کو بھی اپنا ولی اور سرپرست نہ بنانا اور اللہ سے ڈرتے رہنا اگر تم واقعی صاحب ایمان ہو۔

And when you call to prayer they make it a mockery and a joke; this is because they are a people who do not understand.

اور جب تم نماز کے لئے اذان دیتے ہو تو یہ اس کو مذاق اور کھیل بنالیتے ہیں اس لئے کہ یہ بالکل بے عقل قوم ہیں۔

Say: O followers of the Book! do you find fault with us (for aught) except that we believe in Allah and in what has been revealed to us and what was revealed before, and that most of you are transgressors?

پیغمبر آپ کہہ دیجئے کہ اے اہلِ کتاب کیا تم ہم سے صرف اس بات پر ناراض ہوکہ ہم اللہ اور اس نے جو کچھ ہماری طرف یا ہم سے پہلے نازل کیا ہے ان سب پر ایمان رکھتے ہیں اور تمہاری اکثریت فاسق اور نافرمان ہے۔

Say: Shall I inform you of (him who is) worse than this in retribution from Allah? (Worse is he) whom Allah has cursed and brought His wrath upon, and of whom He made apes and swine, and he who served the Shaitan; these are worse in place and more erring from the straight path.

کیا ہم تم کو خدا کے نزدیک ایک منزل کے اعتبار سے اس سے بدتر عیب کی خبر دیں کہ جس پر خدا نے لعنت اور غضب نازل کیا ہے اوران میں سے بعض کو بندر اور سور بنادیا ہے اور جس نے بھی طاغوت کی عبادت کی ہے وہ جگہ کے اعتبار سے بدترین اور سیدھے راستہ سے انتہائی بہکا ہوا ہے۔

And when they come to you, they say: We believe; and indeed they come in with unbelief and indeed they go forth with it; and Allah knows best what they concealed.

اور یہ جب تمہارے پاس آتے ہیں تو کہتے ہیں کہ ہم ایمان لے آئے ہیں حالانکہ یہ کفر ہی کے ساتھ داخل ہوئے ہیں اور اسی کو لے کر نکلے ہیں اور خدا ان سب باتوں کو خوب جانتا ہے جن کو یہ چھپائے ہوئے ہیں۔

And you will see many of them striving with one another to hasten in sin and exceeding the limits, and their eating of what is unlawfully acquired; certainly evil is that which they do.

ان میں سے بہت سوں کو آپ دیکھیں گے کہ وہ گناہ اور ظلم اور حرام خوری میں دوڑتے پھرتے ہیں اور یہ بدترین کام انجام دے رہے ہیں۔

Why do not the learned men and the doctors of law prohibit them from their speaking of what is sinful and their eating of what is unlawfully acquired? Certainly evil is that which they work.

آخر انہیں اللہ والے اور علماء ان کے جھوٹ بولنے اور حرام کھانے سے کیوں نہیں منع کرتے، یہ یقینًا بہت برا کررہے ہیں۔

And the Jews say: The hand of Allah is tied up! Their hands shall be shackled and they shall be cursed for what they say. Nay, both His hands are spread out, He expends as He pleases; and what has been revealed to you from your Lord will certainly make many of them increase in inordinacy and unbelief; and We have put enmity and hatred among them till the day of resurrection; whenever they kindle a fire for war Allah puts it out, and they strive to make mischief in the land; and Allah does not love the mischief-makers.

اور یہودی کہتے ہیں کہ خدا کے ہاتھ بندھے ہوئے ہیں جب کہ اصل میں ان ہی کے ہاتھ بندھے ہوئے ہیں اور یہ اپنے قول کی بنا پر ملعون ہیں اور خدا کے دونوں ہاتھ کھلے ہوئے ہیں اور وہ جس طرح چاہتا ہے خرچ کرتاہے اور جو کچھ آپ پر پروردگار کی طرف سے نازل ہوا ہے اس کا انکار ان میں سے بہت سوں کے کفر اور ان کی سرکشی کو اور بڑھادے گا اور ہم نے ان کے درمیان قیامت تک کے لئے عداوت اور بغض پیدا کردیا ہے کہ جب بھی جنگ کی آگ بھڑکانا چاہیں گے خدا بجھا دے گا اور یہ زمین میں فساد کی کوشش کررہے ہیں اور خدا مفسدوں کو دوست نہیں رکھتا۔

And if the followers of the Book had believed and guarded (against evil) We would certainly have covered their evil deeds and We would certainly have made them enter gardens of bliss

اور اگر اہلِ کتاب ایمان لے آتے اور ہم سے ڈرتے رہتے تو ہم ان کے گناہوں کو معاف کردیتے اور انہیں نعمتوں کے باغات میں داخل کردیتے۔

And if they had kept up the Taurat and the Injeel and that which was revealed to them from their Lord, they would certainly have eaten from above them and from beneath their feet, there is a party of them keeping to the moderate course, and (as for) most of them, evil is that which they do.

اور اگر یہ لوگ توریت و انجیل اور جو کچھ ان کی طرف پروردگار کی طرف سے نازل کیا گیا ہے سب کو قائم کرتے تو اپنے اوپر اور قدموں کے نیچے سے رزقِ خدا حاصل کرتے، ان میں سے ایک قوم میانہ رو ہے اور زیادہ حصّہ لوگ بدترین اعمال انجام دے رہے ہیں۔

O Apostle! deliver what has been revealed to you from your Lord; and if you do it not, then you have not delivered His message, and Allah will protect you from the people; surely Allah will not guide the unbelieving people.

اے پیغمبر آپ اس حکم کو پہنچادیں جو آپ کے پروردگار کی طرف سے نازل کیا گیا ہے اور اگر آپ نے یہ نہ کیا تو گویا اس کے پیغام کو نہیں پہنچایا اور خدا آپ کو لوگوں کے شر سے محفوظ رکھے گا کہ اللہ کافروں کی ہدایت نہیں کرتا ہے۔

Say: O followers of the Book! you follow no good till you keep up the Taurat and the Injeel and that which is revealed to you from your Lord; and surely that which has been revealed to you from your Lord shall make many of them increase in inordinacy and unbelief; grieve not therefore for the unbelieving people.

کہہ دیجئے کہ اے اہل کتاب تمہارا کوئی مذہب نہیں ہے جب تک توریت و انجیل اور جو کچھ پروردگار کی طرف سے نازل ہوا ہے اسے قائم نہ کرو اور جو کچھ آپ کے پاس پروردگار کی طرف سے نازل ہوا ہے وہ ان کی کثیر تعداد کی سرکشی اور کفر میں اضافہ کردے گا تو آپ کافروں کے حال پر رنجیدہ نہ ہوں۔

Surely those who believe and those who are Jews and the Sebeans and the Christians whoever believes in Allah and the last day and does good- they shall have no fear nor shall they grieve.

بےشک جو لوگ صاحبِ ایمان ہیں یا یہودی اور ستارہ پرست اور عیسائی ہیں ان میں سے جو بھی اللہ اور آخرت پر واقعی ایمان لائے گا اور عمل صالح کرے گا اس کے لئے نہ خوف ہے اور نہ اُسے حزن ہوگا۔

Certainly We made a covenant with the children of Israel and We sent to them apostles; whenever there came to them an apostle with what that their souls did not desire, some (of them) did they call liars and some they slew.

ہم نے بنی اسرائیل سے عہد لیا ہے اور ان کی طرف بہت سے رسول بھیجے ہیں لیکن جب ان کے پاس کوئی رسول ان کی خواہش کے خلاف حکم لے آیا تو انہوں نے ایک جماعت کی تکذیب کی اور ایک گروہ کو قتل کردیتے ہیں۔

And they thought that there would be no affliction, so they became blind and deaf; then Allah turned to them mercifully, but many of them became blind and deaf; and Allah is well seeing what they do.

اور ان لوگوں نے خیال کیا کہ اس میں کوئی خرابی نہ ہوگی اسی لئے یہ حقائق سے اندھے اور بہرے ہوگئے ہیں۔ اس کے بعد خدا نے ان کی توبہ قبول کرلی لیکن پھر بھی اکثریت اندھی بہری ہوگئی اور خدا ان کے تمام اعمال پر گہری نگاہ رکھتا ہے۔

Certainly they disbelieve who say: Surely Allah, He is the Messiah, son of Marium; and the Messiah said: O Children of Israel! serve Allah, my Lord and your Lord. Surely whoever associates (others) with Allah, then Allah has forbidden to him the garden, and his abode is the fire; and there shall be no helpers for the unjust.

یقینًا وہ لوگ کافر ہیں جن کا کہنا ہے کہ اللہ ہی مسیح بن مریمؑ ہیں جبکہ خود مسیح کا کہنا ہے کہ اے بنی اسرائیل اپنے اور میرے پروردگار کی عبادت کرو۔ جو کوئی اس کا شریک قرار دے گا اس پر خدا نے جنّت حرام کردی ہے اور اس کا انجام جہنّم ہے اور ظالموں کا کوئی مددگار نہ ہوگا۔

Certainly they disbelieve who say: Surely Allah is the third (person) of the three; and there is no god but the one God, and if they desist not from what they say, a painful chastisement shall befall those among them who disbelieve.

یقینًا وہ لوگ کافر ہیں جن کا کہنا یہ ہے کہ اللہ تین میں کا تیسرا ہے، حالانکہ اللہ کے علاوہ کوئی خدا نہیں ہے اور اگر یہ لوگ اپنے قول سے باز نہ آئیں گے تو ان میں سے کفر اختیار کرنے والوں پر دردناک عذاب نازل ہوجائے گا۔

Will they not then turn to Allah and ask His forgiveness? And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

یہ لوگ خدا کی بارگاہ میں توبہ اور استغفار کیوں نہیں کرتے جب کہ اللہ بہت بخشنے والا اور مہربان ہے۔

The Messiah, son of Marium is but an apostle; apostles before him have indeed passed away; and his mother was a truthful woman; they both used to eat food. See how We make the communications clear to them, then behold, how they are turned away.

مسیح بن مریمؑ کچھ نہیں ہیں صرف ہمارے رسول ہیں جن سے پہلے بہت سے رسول گزر چکے ہیں اور ان کی ماں صدیقہ تھیں اور وہ دونوں کھانا کھایا کرتے تھے، دیکھو ہم اپنی نشانیوں کو کس طرح واضح کرکے بیان کرتے ہیں اور پھر دیکھو کہ یہ لوگ کس طرح بہکے جارہے ہیں۔

Say: Do you serve besides Allah that which does not control for you any harm, or any profit? And Allah- He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

پیغمبر آپ ان سے کہئے کہ کیا تم اللہ کو چھوڑ کر ان کی عبادت کرتے ہو جو تمہارے لئے نفع اور نقصان کے مالک بھی نہیں ہیں اور خدا سننے والا بھی ہے اور جاننے والا بھی ہے۔

Say: O followers of the Book! be not unduly immoderate in your religion, and do not follow the low desires of people who went astray before and led many astray and went astray from the right path.

پیغمبر آپ کہہ دیجئے کہ اے اہلِ کتاب اپنے دین میں ناحق غلو سے کام نہ لو اور اس قوم کی خواہشات کا اتباع نہ کرو جو پہلے سے گمراہ ہوچکی ہے اور بہت سے لوگوں کو گمراہ بھی کرچکی ہے اور سیدھے راستہ سے بہک چکی ہے۔

Those who disbelieved from among the children of Israel were cursed by the tongue of Dawood and Isa, son of Marium; this was because they disobeyed and used to exceed the limit.

بنی اسرائیل میں سے کفر اختیار کرنے والوں پر جناب داؤدؑ اور جناب عیسٰیؑ کی زبان سے لعنت کی جاچکی ہے کہ ان لوگوں نے نافرمانی کی اور ہمیشہ حد سے تجاوز کیا کرتے تھے۔

They used not to forbid each other the hateful things (which) they did; certainly evil was that which they did.

انہوں نے جو برائی بھی کی ہے اس سے باز نہیں آتے تھے اور بدترین کام کیا کرتے تھے۔

You will see many of them befriending those who disbelieve; certainly evil is that which their souls have sent before for them, that Allah became displeased with them and in chastisement shall they abide.

ان میں سے اکثر کو آپ دیکھیں گے کہ یہ کفار سے دوستی کرتے ہیں۔انہوں نے اپنے نفس کے لئے جو سامان پہلے سے فراہم کیا ہے وہ بہت بُرا سامان ہے جس پر خدا ان سے ناراض ہے اور وہ عذاب میں ہمیشہ رہنے والے ہیں۔

And had they believed in Allah and the Prophet and what was revealed to him, they would not have taken them for friends, but! most of them are transgressors.

اگر یہ لوگ اللہ اور نبی موسٰیؑ اور جو کچھ ان پر نازل ہوا ہے سب پر ایمان رکھتے تو ہرگز کفار کو دوست نہ بناتے لیکن ان میں سے بہت سے لوگ فاسق اور نافرمان ہیں۔

Certainly you will find the most violent of people in enmity for those who believe (to be) the Jews and those who are polytheists, and you will certainly find the nearest in friendship to those who believe (to be) those who say: We are Christians; this is because there are priests and monks among them and because they do not behave proudly.

آپ دیکھیں گے کہ صاحبانِ ایمان سے سب سے زیادہ عداوت رکھنے والے یہودی اور مشرک ہیں اور ان کی محبت سے سب سے زیادہ قریب وہ لوگ ہیں جو کہتے ہیں کہ ہم نصرانی ہیں، یہ اس لئے ہے کہ ان میں بہت سے قسیس اور راہب پائے جاتے ہیں اور یہ متکبر اور برائی کرنے والے نہیں ہیں۔

And when they hear what has been revealed to the apostle you will see their eyes overflowing with tears on account of the truth that they recognize; they say: Our Lord! we believe, so write us down with the witnesses (of truth).

اور جب اس کلام کو سنتے ہیں جو رسول پر نازل ہوا ہے تو تم دیکھتے ہو کہ ان کی آنکھوں سے بے ساختہ آنسو جاری ہوجاتے ہیں کہ انہوں نے حق کو پہچان لیا ہے اور کہتے ہیں کہ پروردگار ہم ایمان لے آئے ہیں لہذا ہمارا نام بھی تصدیق کرنے والوں میں درج کرلے۔

And what (reason) have we that we should not believe in Allah and in the truth that has come to us, while we earnestly desire that our Lord should cause us to enter with the good people?

بھلا ہم اللہ اور اپنے پاس آنے والے حق پر کس طرح ایمان نہ لائیں گے جب کہ ہماری خواہش ہے کہ پروردگار ہمیں نیک کردار بندوں میں شامل کرلے۔

Therefore Allah rewarded them on account of what they said, with gardens in which rivers flow to abide in them; and this is the reward of those who do good (to others).

تو اس قول کی بنا پر پروردگار نے انہیں وہ باغات دے دئیے جن کے نیچے نہریں بہہ رہی ہیں اور وہ انہی میں ہمیشہ رہنے والے ہیں کہ یہی نیک کردار لوگوں کی جزا ہے۔

And (as for) those who disbelieve and reject Our communications, these are the companions of the flame.

اور جن لوگوں نے کفر اختیار کرلیا اور ہماری آیات کو جھٹلا دیا تو وہ لوگ جہنّمی ہیں۔

O you who believe! do not forbid (yourselves) the good things which Allah has made lawful for you and do not exceed the limits; surely Allah does not love those who exceed the limits.

ایمان والو جن چیزوں کو خدا نے تمہارے لئے حلال کیا ہے انہیں حرام نہ بناؤ اور حد سے تجاوز نہ کرو کہ خدا تجاوز کرنے والوں کو دوست نہیں رکھتا ہے۔

And eat of the lawful and good (things) that Allah has given you, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, in Whom you believe.

اور جو اس نے رزق حلال و پاکیزہ دیا ہے اس کو کھاؤ اور اس خدا سے ڈرتے رہو جس پر ایمان رکھنے والے ہو۔

Allah does not call you to account for what is vain in your oaths, but He calls you to account for the making of deliberate oaths; so its expiation is the feeding of ten poor men out of the middling (food) you feed your families with, or their clothing, or the freeing of a neck; but whosoever cannot find (means) then fasting for three days; this is the expiation of your oaths when you swear; and guard your oaths. Thus does Allah make clear to you His communications, that you may be grateful.

خدا تم سے بے مقصد قسمیں کھانے پر مواخذہ نہیں کرتا ہے لیکن جن قسموں کی گرہ دل نے باندھ لی ہے ان کی مخالفت کا کفارہ دس مسکینوں کے لئے اوسط درجہ کا کھانا ہے جو اپنے گھر والوں کو کھلاتے ہو یا ان کا کپڑا یا ایک غلام کی آزادی ہے، پھر اگر یہ سب ناممکن ہو تو تین روزے رکھو، کہ یہ تمہاری قسموں کا کفارہ ہے جب بھی تم قسم کھا کر اس کی مخالفت کرو اپنی قسموں کا تحفظ کرو کہ خدا اس طرح اپنی آیات کو واضح کرکے بیان کرتا ہے کہ شاید تم اس کے شکر گزار بندے بن جاؤ۔

O you who believe! intoxicants and games of chance and (sacrificing to) stones set up and (dividing by) arrows are only an uncleanness, the Shaitan’s work; shun it therefore that you may be successful.

ایمان والو !شراب، جوا، بت، پانسہ یہ سب گندے شیطانی اعمال ہیں لہذا ان سے پرہیز کرو تاکہ کامیابی حاصل کرسکو۔

The Shaitan only desires to cause enmity and hatred to spring in your midst by means of intoxicants and games of chance, and to keep you off from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. Will you then desist?

شیطان تو بس یہی چاہتا ہے کہ شراب اور جوے کے بارے میں تمہارے درمیان بغض اور عداوت پیدا کردے اور تمہیں یاد خدا اور نماز سے روک دے تو کیا تم واقعًا رک جاؤ گے۔

And obey Allah and obey the apostle and be cautious; but if you turn back, then know that only a clear deliverance of the message is (incumbent) on Our apostle.

اور دیکھو اللہ کی اطاعت کرو اور رسول کی اطاعت کرو اور نافرمانی سے بچتے رہو ورنہ اگر تم نے روگردانی کی توجان لو کہ رسول کی ذمہ داری صرف واضح پیغام کا پہنچادینا ہے۔

On those who believe and do good there is no blame for what they eat, when they are careful (of their duty) and believe and do good deeds, then they are careful (of their duty) and believe, then they are careful (of their duty) and do good (to others), and Allah loves those who do good (to others).

جو لوگ ایمان لائے اور انہوں نے نیک اعمال کئے ان کے لئے اس میں کوئی حرج نہیں ہے جو کچھ کھا پی چکے ہیں جب کہ وہ متقی بن گئے اور ایمان لے آئے اور نیک اعمال کئے اور پرہیز کیااور ایمان لے آئے اور پھر پرہیز کیا اور نیک عمل کیا اور اللہ نیک اعمال کرنے والوں ہی کو دوست رکھتا ہے۔

O you who believe! Allah will certainly try you in respect of some game which your hands and your lances can reach, that Allah might know who fears Him in secret; but whoever exceeds the limit after this, he shall have a painful punishment.

ایمان والو !اللہ ان شکاروں کے ذریعہ تمہارا امتحان ضرور لے گا جن تک تمہارے ہاتھ اور نیزے پہنچ جاتے ہیں تاکہ وہ یہ دیکھے کہ اس سے لوگوں کے غائبانہ میں بھی کون کون ڈرتا ہے پھر جو اس کے بعد بھی زیادتی کرے گا اس کے لئے دردناک عذاب ہے۔

O you who believe! do not kill game while you are on pilgrimage, and whoever among you shall kill it intentionally, the compensation (of it) is the like of what he killed, from the cattle, as two just persons among you shall judge, as an offering to be brought to the Kaaba or the expiation (of it) is the feeding of the poor or the equivalent of it in fasting, that he may taste the unwholesome result of his deed; Allah has pardoned what is gone by; and whoever returns (to it), Allah will inflict retribution on him; and Allah is Mighty, Lord of Retribution.

ایمان والو حالتِ احرام میں شکار کو نہ مارو اور جو تم میں قصدًا ایسا کرے گا اس کی سزا انہی جانوروں کے برابر ہے جنہیں قتل کیا ہے جس کا فیصلہ تم میں سے دو عادل افراد کریں اور اس قربانی کو کعبہ تک جانا چاہئے یا مساکین کے کھانے کی شکل میں کفارہ دیا جائے یا اس کے برابر روزے رکھے جائیں تاکہ اپنے کام کے انجام کا مزہ چکھیں۔ اللہ نے گزشتہ معاملات کو معاف کردیا ہے لیکن اب جو دوبارہ شکار کرے گا تو اس سے انتقام لے گا اور وہ سب پر غالب آنے والا اور بدلہ لینے والا ہے۔

Lawful to you is the game of the sea and its food, a provision for you and for the travellers, and the game of the land is forbidden to you so long as you are on pilgrimage, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, to Whom you shall be gathered.

تمہارے لئے دریائی جانور کا شکار کرنا اور اس کا کھانا حلال کردیا گیا ہے کہ تمہارے لئے اور قافلوں کے لئے فائدہ کا ذریعہ ہے اور تمہارے لئے خشکی کا شکار حرام کردیا گیا ہے جب تک حالت احرام میں رہو اور اس خدا سے ڈرتے رہو جس کی بارگاہ میں حاضر ہونا ہے۔

Allah has made the Kaaba, the sacred house, a maintenance for the people, and the sacred month and the offerings and the sacrificial animals with garlands; this is that you may know that Allah knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, and that Allah is the Knower of all things.

اللہ نے کعبہ کو جو بیت الحرام ہے اور محترم مہینے کو اور قربانی کے عام جانوروں کو اور جن جانوروں کے گلے میں پٹہ ڈال دیا گیا ہے سب کو لوگوں کے قیام و صلاح کا ذریعہ قرار دیا ہے تاکہ تمہیں یہ معلوم رہے کہ اللہ زمین و آسمان کی ہر شے سے باخبر ہے اور وہ کائنات کی ہر شے کا جاننے والا ہے۔

Know that Allah is severe in requiting (evil) and that Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

یاد رکھو خدا سخت عذاب کرنے والا بھی ہے اور غفور و رحیم بھی ہے۔

Nothing is (incumbent) on the Apostle but to deliver (the message), and Allah knows what you do openly and what you hide.

اور رسول پر تبلیغ کے علاوہ کوئی ذمہ داری نہیں ہے اور اللہ جن باتوں کا تم اظہار کرتے ہو یا چھپاتے ہو سب سے باخبر ہے۔

Say: The bad and the good are not equal, though the abundance of the bad may please you; so be careful of (your duty to) Allah, O men of understanding, that you may be successful.

پیغمبر آپ کہہ دیجئے کہ خبیث اور پاکیزہ برابر نہیں ہوسکتے، چاہے خبیث کی کثرت اچھی ہی کیوں نہ لگے صاحبانِ عقل اللہ سے ڈرتے رہو شاید کہ تم اس طرح کامیاب ہوجاؤ۔

O you who believe! do not put questions about things which if declared to you may trouble you, and if you question about them when the Quran is being revealed, they shall be declared to you; Allah pardons this, and Allah is Forgiving, Forbearing.

ایمان والو ان چیزوں کے بارے میں سوال نہ کرو جو تم پر ظاہر ہوجائیں تو تمہیں بری لگیں اور اگر نزول قرآن کے وقت دریافت کرلو گے تو ظاہر بھی کردی جائیں گی اور اب تک کی باتوں کواللہ نے معاف کردیا ہے کہ وہ بڑا بخشنے والا اور برداشت کرنے والا ہے۔

A people before you indeed asked such questions, and then became disbelievers on account of them.

تم سے پہلے والی قوموں نے بھی ایسے ہی سوالات کئے اور اس کے بعد پھر کافر ہوگئے۔

It was not Allah Who began (false beliefs like those of) a slit-ear female camel, or a female camel let loose for free grazing, or idol sacrifices for twin-births in animals, or stallion-camels freed from work; it is the blasphemers who invent a lie against Allah: But most of them (simply) lack wisdom.

اللہ نے بحیرہ، سائبہ، وصیلہ اور ہام کا کوئی قانون نہیں بنایا یہ جو لوگ کافر ہوگئے ہیں وہ اللہ پر جھوٹا بہتان باندھتے ہیں اور ان میں کے اکثر بے عقل ہیں۔

And when it is said to them, Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Apostle, they say: That on which we found our fathers is sufficient for us. What! even though their fathers knew nothing and did not follow the right way.

اور جب ان سے کہا جاتا ہے کہ خدا کے نازل کئے ہوئے احکام اور اس کے رسول کی طرف آؤ تو کہتے ہیں کہ ہمارے لئے وہی کافی ہے جس پر ہم نے اپنے آباؤ و اجداد کو پایا ہے چاہے ان کے آباؤ و اجداد نہ کچھ سمجھتے ہوں اور نہ کسی طرح کی ہدایت کرتے ہوں۔

O you who believe! take care of your souls; he who errs cannot hurt you when you are on the right way; to Allah is your return, of all (of you), so He will inform you of what you did.

ایمان والو اپنے نفس کی فکر کرو، اگر تم ہدایت یافتہ رہے تو گمراہوں کی گمراہی تمہیں کوئی نقصان نہیں پہنچاسکتی۔ تم سب کی بازگشت خدا کی طرف ہے پھر وہ تمہیں تمہارے اعمال سے باخبر کرے گا۔

O you who believe! call to witness between you when death draws nigh to one of you, at the time of making the will, two just persons from among you, or two others from among others than you, if you are travelling in the land and the calamity of death befalls you; the two (witnesses) you should detain after the prayer; then if you doubt (them), they shall both swear by Allah, (saying): We will not take for it a price, though there be a relative, and we will not hide the testimony of Allah for then certainly we should be among the sinners.

ایمان والو جب تم میں سے کسی کی موت سامنے آجائے تو گواہی کا خیال رکھنا کہ وصیت کے وقت دو عادل گواہ تم میں سے ہوں یا پھر تمہارے غیر میں سے ہوں اگر تم سفر کی حالت میں ہو اور وہیں موت کی مصیبت نازل ہوجائے ان دونوں کو نماز کے بعد روک کر رکھو پھر اگر تمہیں شک ہو تو یہ خدا کی قسم کھائیں کہ ہم اس گواہی سے کسی طرح کا فائدہ نہیں چاہتے ہیں چاہے قرابتدار ہی کا معاملہ کیوں نہ ہو اور نہ خدائی شہادت کو چھپاتے ہیں کہ اس طرح ہم یقینًا گناہگاروں میں شمار ہوجائیں گے۔

Then if it becomes known that they both have been guilty of a sin, two others shall stand up in their place from among those who have a claim against them, the two nearest in kin; so they two should swear by Allah: Certainly our testimony is truer than the testimony of those two, and we have not exceeded the limit, for then most surely we should be of the unjust.

پھر اگر معلوم ہوجائے کہ وہ دونوں گناہ کے حقدار ہوگئے ہیں تو ان کی جگہ دو دوسرے آدمی کھڑے ہوں گے ان افراد میں سے جو میت سے قریب تر ہیں اور وہ قسم کھائیں گے کہ ہماری شہادت ان کی شہادت سے زیادہ صحیح ہے اور ہم نے کسی طرح کی زیادتی نہیں کی ہے کہ اس طرح ظالمین میں شمار ہوجائیں گے۔

This is more proper in order that they should give testimony truly or fear that other oaths be given after their oaths; and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, and hear; and Allah does not guide the transgressing people.

یہ بہترین طریقہ ہے کہ شہادت کو صحیح طریقہ سے پیش کریں یا اس بات سے ڈریں کہ کہیں ہماری گواہی دوسروں کی گواہی کے بعد رد نہ کردی جائے اوراللہ سے ڈرتے رہو اور اس کی سنو کہ وہ فاسق قوم کی ہدایت نہیں کرتا ہے۔

On the day when Allah will assemble the apostles, then say: What answer were you given? They shall say: We have no knowledge, surely Thou art the great Knower of the unseen things.

جس دن خدا تمام مرسلین کو جمع کرکے سوال کرے گا کہ تمہیں قوم کی طرف سے تبلیغ کا کیا جواب ملا تو وہ کہیں گے کہ ہم کیا بتائیں تو خود ہی غیب کا جاننے والا ہے۔

When Allah will say: O Isa son of Marium! Remember My favor on you and on your mother, when I strengthened you with the holy Spirit, you spoke to the people in the cradle and when of old age, and when I taught you the Book and the wisdom and the Taurat and the Injeel; and when you determined out of clay a thing like the form of a bird by My permission, then you breathed into it and it became a bird by My permission, and you healed the blind and the leprous by My permission; and when you brought forth the dead by My permission; and when I withheld the children of Israel from you when you came to them with clear arguments, but those who disbelieved among them said: This is nothing but clear enchantment.

جب اللہ نے کہا کہ اے عیسٰی بن مریمؑ ہماری اس نعمت کو یاد کرو جو ہم نے تم پر اور تمہاری والدہ پر کی ہے جب ہم نے روح القدس کے ذریعہ تمہاری تائید کی کہ تم گہوارہ میں بھی اور ادھیڑ عمر میں بھی لوگوں سے کلام کرتے تھے اور جب ہم نے تمہیں کتاب و حکمت اور توریت و انجیل کی تعلیم دی اور جب تم ہمارے حکم سے مٹی سے پرندے کی شکل بناتے تھے اور اس میں پھونک دیتے تھے تو وہ ہمارے حکم سے پرندہ بن جاتا تھا اور تم ہمارے حکم سے مادر زاد اندھے اور کوڑھی کو اچھا کردیتے تھے اور ہمارے حکم سے مردوں کو زندہ کردیتے تھے اور جب ہم نے بنی اسرائیل کو تم سے روک دیا جب تم ان کے پاس کھلی نشانیاں لے کر آئے تو ان میں کے کافروں نے کہہ دیا کہ یہ سب کھلا ہوا جادو ہے۔

And when I revealed to the disciples, saying, Believe in Me and My apostle, they said: We believe and bear witness that we submit (ourselves).

اور جب ہم نے حواریین کی طرف الہام کیا کہ ہم پر اور ہمارے رسول پر ایمان لے آؤ تو انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم ایمان لے آئے اور تو گواہ رہنا کہ ہم مسلمان ہیں۔

When the disciples said: O Isa son of Marium! will your Lord consent to send down to us food from heaven? He said: Be careful of (your duty to) Allah if you are believers.

اور جب حواریین نے کہا کہ اے عیسٰی بن مریمؑ کیا تمہارے رب میں یہ طاقت بھی ہے کہ ہمارے اوپر آسمان سے دسترخوان نازل کردے تو انہوں نے جواب دیا کہ تم اگر مومن ہو تو اللہ سے ڈرو۔

They said: We desire that we should eat of it and that our hearts should be at rest, and that we may know that you have indeed spoken the truth to us and that we may be of the witnesses to it.

ان لوگوں نے کہا کہ ہم چاہتے ہیں کہ ہم اس میں سے کھائیں اور اطمینان قلب پیدا کریں اور یہ جان لیں کہ آپ نے ہم سے سچ کہا ہے اور ہم خود بھی اس کے گواہوں میں شامل ہوجائیں۔

Isa the son of Marium said: O Allah, our Lord! send down to us food from heaven which should be to us an ever-recurring happiness, to the first of us and to the last of us, and a sign from Thee, and grant us means of subsistence, and Thou art the best of the Providers.

عیسٰی بن مریمؑ نے کہا خدایا پروردگار !ہمارے اوپر آسمان سے دستر خوان نازل کردے کہ ہمارے اول و آخر کے لئے عید ہوجائے اور تیری قدرت کی نشانی بن جائے اور ہمیں رزق دے کہ تو بہترین رزق دینے والا ہے۔

Allah said: Surely I will send it down to you, but whoever shall disbelieve afterwards from among you, surely I will chastise him with a chastisement with which I will not chastise, anyone among the nations.

پروردگار نے کہا کہ ہم نازل تو کررہے ہیں لیکن اس کے بعد جو تم میں سے انکار کرے گا اس پر ایسا عذاب نازل کریں گے کہ عالمین میں کسی پر نہیں کیا ہے۔

And when Allah will say: O Isa son of Marium! did you say to men, Take me and my mother for two gods besides Allah, he will say: Glory be to Thee, it did not befit me that I should say what I had no right to (say); if I had said it, Thou wouldst indeed have known it; Thou knowest what is in my mind, and I do not know what is in Thy mind, surely Thou art the great Knower of the unseen things.

اور جب اللہ نے کہا کہ اے عیسٰی بن مریم کیا تم نے لوگوں سے یہ کہہ دیا ہے کہ اللہ کو چھوڑ کر مجھے اور میری ماں کو خدا مان لو، تو عیسٰی نے عرض کی کہ تیری ذات بے نیاز ہے میں ایسی بات کیسے کہوں گا جس کا مجھے کوئی حق نہیں ہے اور اگر میں نے کہا تھا تو تجھے تو معلوم ہی ہے کہ تو میرے دل کا حال جانتا ہے اور میں تیرے اسرار نہیں جانتا ہوں، تو تو غیب کا جاننے والا بھی ہے۔

I did not say to them aught save what Thou didst enjoin me with: That serve Allah, my Lord and your Lord, and I was a witness of them so long as I was among them, but when Thou didst cause me to die, Thou wert the watcher over them, and Thou art witness of all things.

میں نے ان سے صرف وہی کہا ہے جس کا تو نے حکم دیا تھا کہ میرے اور اپنے پروردگار کی عبادت کرو اور میں جب تک ان کے درمیان رہا ان کا گواہ اور نگراں رہا۔ پھر جب تو نے مجھے اٹھالیا تو تو ان کا نگہبان ہے اور تو ہر شے کا گواہ اور نگراں ہے۔

If Thou shouldst chastise them, then surely they are Thy servants; and if Thou shouldst forgive them, then surely Thou art the Mighty, the Wise.

اگر تو ان پر عذاب کرے گا تو وہ تیرے ہی بندے ہیں اور اگر معاف کردے گا تو صاحبِ عزّت بھی ہے اور صاحبِ حکمت بھی ہے۔

Allah will say: This is the day when their truth shall benefit the truthful ones; they shall have gardens beneath which rivers flow to abide in them for ever: Allah is well pleased with them and they are well pleased with Allah; this is the mighty achievement.

اللہ نے کہا کہ یہ قیامت کا دن ہے جب صادقین کو ان کا سچ فائدہ پہنچائے گا کہ ان کے لئے باغات ہوں گے جن کے نیچے نہریں جاری ہوں گی اور وہ ان میں ہمیشہ ہمیشہ رہیں گے۔ خدا ان سے راضی ہوگا اور وہ خدا سے اور یہی ایک عظیم کامیابی ہے۔

Allah’s is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and what is in them; and He has power over all things.

اللہ کے لئے زمین و آسمان اور ان کے درمیان کی کل حکومت ہے اور وہ ہر شے پر قدرت رکھنے والا ہے۔

Almighty God the most high speaks the truth.

اللہ بزرگ و برتر نے سچ فرمایا ہے۔
