A dead person must be bathed 3 ritual bathings; first, with water of the leaves of lote-tree; second, with water of camphor; and third, with pure water. Just like the ritual bathing after ceremonial impurity, the first organs of a dead person to be washed are the hands; they must be washed 3 times. Then, they may be rubbed dry with a little amount of moss (a kind of cotton-grass) 3 times. Then, the head should be washed with the foam of the water of lote-tree 3 times. The same thing should be then made to the right and then the left sides of the body. The hand of the bather (the person who bathes) must pass over the entire body with the water of the lote. The vessels that have contained the water mixed with lote must be cast and another liquid, which is a mixture of water and (a little quantity of) camphor must be poured in the vessels. Then, the same previous process of washing must be repeated, yet with the mixture of water and camphor this time. Then, the vessels that have contained the mixture of water and camphor must be cast and re-filled with pure water with which the dead body must be washed in the same previous way. The bather must stand to the right side of the dead body. At each time of bathing, the bather must repeat this word ‘AFWAN ‘AFWAN (Pardon pardon). Upon accomplishment, the dead body must be dried with a clean piece of cloth. It is then obligatory upon the bather to bathe himself, either immediately or afterwards. However, it is recommended to perform a ritual ablution (wuzu) before the bathings of the dead body.
پھر میت کو تین غسل دیئے جائیں، پہلا غسل بیری کے پتوں والے پانی سے، دوسرا کافور کے پانی سے اور تیسرا خالص پانی سے۔ اس غسل کی کیفیت وہی ہے جو غسل جنابت کی ہے سب سے پہلے میت کے ہاتھ ۳ مرتبہ دھوئے جائیں پھر اس کی شرم گاہوں کو تھوڑی سی اشنان (خوشبو دار بوٹی) کے ساتھ ۳ مرتبہ دھویا جائے، اس کے بعد غسل کی نیت سے اس کا سر بیری کے پتوں والے پانی سے ۳ مرتبہ دھویا جائے، پھر اس کے دائیں اور بائیں پہلوؤں کو بھی اسی طرح دھویا جائے۔ البتہ اس دوران میت کے سارے بدن پر ہاتھ مس کیا جائے گا یہ سب بیری کے پتوں والے پانی سے دھونا ہو گا اس کے بعد پانی والے برتن کو اچھی طرح دھویا جائے تا کہ بیری کا اثر زائل ہو جائے ، پھر برتن میں نیا پانی ڈال کر اس میں تھوڑا سا کافور ڈالا جائے اور اس سے میت کو اسی طرح غسل دیا جائے جس طرح بیری کے پانی سے دیا گیا تھا، اگر پانی بچ جائے تو اسے انڈیل دیا جائے گا اور برتن کو اچھی طرح سے دھو کراس میں خالص پانی ڈال کر اس سے میت کو تیسرا غسل اسی ترتیب سے دیا جائے گا جو پہلے بیان ہو چکی ہے۔ غسل دینے والے کو میت کی داہنی طرف ہونا چاہیے اور جب بھی میت کے کسی عضو کو غسل دے تو عفوًا عفوًا کہے اور جب غسل دے چکے تو ایک صاف کپڑے سے میت کے بدن کو خشک کرے۔ نیز واجب ہے کہ غسل دینے والا اسی وقت یا اس کے بعد خود بھی غسل مس میت کرے اور مستحب ہے کہ غسل دینے سے پہلے وضو کرے۔
