The Inscription to be written & kept with the Dead
چند کلمات لکھ کر میت کے ساتھ رکھا جائے
A written document, not a spoken dua — a testimony drawn up and placed with the body, kept with the details of burial.
It is framed the way a legal attestation is. The person bears witness that there is no god save Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger; that Paradise is true, that the Fire is true, that the Hour is coming without doubt, and that Allah will raise those who are in the graves. Named witnesses then attest that he asked them to witness it and confessed it in their presence.
The creed it records is the Shia one in full: that Ali (a) is the representative of Allah and the vicegerent after the Messenger, that Sayyida Fatima (s) is the daughter of the Messenger, that Hasan and Husain (a) are the two leaders to guidance, and the Imams named in sequence to the Qa'im (ajtf).
It closes by asking the witnesses to carry their testimony and meet him with it at the Pond.
Lines marked auto had their transliteration produced from the vowelled Arabic rather than typed by hand, and the Centre’s alim has not read them yet. The Arabic is the text: where the two differ, follow the Arabic.
بِسْمِ اللہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ
Bismillaahir rahmaanir raheem
In the Name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful.
اللہ کے نام سے (شروع کرتا ہوں) جو بڑا مہربا ن نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهٗ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهٗ وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهٗ وَرَسُوْلُهٗ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهٖ وَاَنَّ الْجَنَّةَ حَقُّ وَاَنَّ النَّارَ حَقُّ وَاَنَّ السَّاعَةِ حَقُّ آتِيَةٌ لَارَيْبَ فِيْهَا وَاَنَّ اللهَ يَبْعَثُ مَنْ فِى الْقُبُوْرِ۔
Ash-hado an laa ilaaha illal-laaho wahda-hu laa sharee-ka lahu wa ash-hado anna mohammadan ‘ab-dohu wa rasoolo-hu sallal-laaho ‘alaiy-he wa aale-hi wa annal jannata haqqo wa annan naar haqqo wa annas saa‘ate haqqo aate-yatoon laa raiy-ba fee-haa wa annal-laaha yab‘aso man fil qo-boor.
I bear witness that there is no god save Allah, One and Only Lord and having no associate with Him. I also bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, May Allah bless him and his Household. [I also bear witness that] Paradise is true, Hellfire is true, the Hour [of Resurrection] is true and is coming; there is no doubt about it, and Allah shall resurrect those who are in graves.
میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ نہیں کوئی معبود مگر ﷲ جو یکتا ہے کوئی اس کا شریک نہیں، میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ محمدؐ اس کے بندے اور رسولؐ ہیں، خدا رحمت کرے ان پر اور ان کی آلؑ پر، جنت حق ہے، جہنم حق ہے، قیامت حق ہے، وہ آنے والی ہے، اس میں شک نہیں کہ ﷲ ان لوگوں کو اٹھائے گا جو قبروں میں ہیں۔
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ شَهِدَ الشُّهُوْدُ الْمُسَمَّوْنَ فِىْ هٰذَا الْكِتَابِ اَنَّ اَخَاهُمْ فِى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ (فُلَانِ بْنَ فُلَانٍ)۔
Bismillaa-hir rahmaa-nir raheeme shahe-dash shohoo-dul mosam-mawna fee haazal ketaa-be anna a-khaa-hum fil-laahe ‘azza wa jalla (folaa-nibna folaan).

شروع کرتا ہوں اللہ کے نام سے جو رحمٰن و رحیم ہے اس تحریر میں نام لیے ہوئے گواہی دیتے ہیں کہ ﷲ عزو جل کے دین میں ان کے بھائی نے (فلان ابن فلان)۔
اَشْهَدَهُمْ وَاسْتَوْدَعَهُمْ وَاَقَرَّ عِنْدَهُمْ اَنَّهٗ يَشْهَدُ اَنْ لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهٗ لَاشَرِيْكَ لَهٗ وَاَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهٖ عَبْدُهٗ وَرَسُوْلُهٗ وَاَنَّهٗ مُقِرُّ بِجَمِيْعِ الْاَنْبِيَاۗءِ وَالرُّسُلِ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ وَاَنَّ عَلِيًّا وَلِىُّ اللهِ وَاِمَامُهٗ وَاَنَّ الْاَئِمَّةَ مِنْ وُلْدِهٖ اَئِمَّتُهٗ وَاَنَّ اَوَّلَهُمُ الْحَسَنُ وَالْحُسَيْنُ وَعَلِىُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيْ وَجَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَمُوْسَى بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ وَعَلِىُّ بْنُ مُوْسٰى وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيْ وَعَلِىُّ بْنُ مَحَمَّدٍ وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيْ وَالْقَاۗئِمُ الْحُجَّةُ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ وَاَنَّ الْجَنَّةَ حَقُّ وَالنَّارَ حَقُّ وَالسَّاعَةَ آتِيَةٌ لَارِيْبَ فِيْهَا، وَاَنَّ اللهَ يَبْعَثُ مَنْ فِى الْقُبُوْرِ وَاَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهٖ (عَبْدُهٗ وَرَسُوْلُهٗ) جَاۗءَ بِالْحَقِّ وَاَنَّ عَلِيًّا وَلِىُّ اللهِ وَالْخَلِيْفَةُ مِنْ بَعْدِ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهٖ وَمُسْتَخْلَفُهٗ فِىْ اُمَّتِهٖ مُؤَدِّيًا لْاَمْرِ رَبِّهٖ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالٰى وَاَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتُ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ وَابْنَيْهَا الْحَسَنَ وَالْحُسَيْنَ اِبْنَا رَسُوْلِاللهِ وَسِبْطَاهُ (وَ) اِمامَا الْهُدٰى وَ قَاۗئِدَا الرَّحْمَةِ وَاَنَّ عَلِيًّا وَمُحَمَّدًا وَجَعْفَرًا وَمُوْسٰى وَعَلِيًّا وَمُحَمَّدًا وَعَلِيًّا وَحَسَنًا وَالْحُجَّةَ عَلَيْهُمُ السَّلَامُ اَئِمَّةٌ وَقَادَةٌ وَدُعَاةٌ اِلَى اللهِ جَلَّ وَعَلَا وَحُجَّةٌ عَلٰى عِبَادِهٖ۔
Ashhadahum wastawda'ahum waaqarra 'indahum annahoo yashhadu an laa allaaha illaa allaahu wahdahoo laashareeka lahoo waanna muhammadan sallaa allaahu 'alayhi waaalihee 'abduhoo warasooluhoo waannahoo muqirru bijamee'i al-anbiyaa'i war-rusuli 'alayhimu as-salaamu waanna 'aliyyan waliyyu allaahi waimaamuhoo waanna al-a'immata min wuldihee a'immatuhoo waanna awwalahumu al-hasanu wal-husaynu wa'aliyyu bnu al-husayni wamuhammadu bnu 'alee waja'faru bnu muhammadin wamoosaa bnu ja'farin wa'aliyyu bnu moosaa wamuhammadu bnu 'alee wa'aliyyu bnu mahammadin wal-hasanu bnu 'alee wal-qaa'imu al-hujjatu 'alayhimu as-salaamu waanna al-jannata haqqu wan-naara haqqu was-saa'ata aatiyatun laareeba feehaa, waanna allaaha yab'athu man fee al-quboori waanna muhammadan sallaa allaahu 'alayhi waaalihee ('abduhoo warasooluhoo) jaa'a bil-haqqi waanna 'aliyyan waliyyu allaahi wal-khaleefatu min ba'di rasooli allaahi sallaa allaahu 'alayhi waaalihee wamustakhlafuhoo fee ummatihee mu'addiyan lamri rabbihee tabaaraka wata'aalaa waanna faatimata bintu rasooli allaahi wabnayhaa al-hasana wal-husayna ibnaa rasoolillhi wasibtaahu (wa) immaa allaahudaa wa qaa'idaa ar-rahmati waanna 'aliyyan wamuhammadan waja'faran wamoosaa wa'aliyyan wamuhammadan wa'aliyyan wahasanan wal-hujjata 'alayhumu as-salaamu a'immatun waqaadatun wadu'aatun ilaa allaahi jalla wa'alaa wahujjatun 'alaa 'ibaadihee. auto
has asked them to witness for him, entrusted with them this statement, and confessed in their presence that he bears witness that there is no god save Allah, One and Only and having no associate with Him, that Muhammad, may Allah bless him and his Household, is His servant and messenger, that he acknowledges all of the prophets and the messengers [of God], peace be upon them, that Ali is the representative of Allah and the leader appointed by Him, that the Imams from Ali’s progeny are his leaders, that they are in sequence are Hasan, Husain, Ali the son of Husain, Muhammad the son of Ali, Ja`far the son of Muhammad, Moosa the son of Ja`far, Ali the son of Moosa, Muhammad the son of Ali, Ali the son of Muhammad, Hasan the son of Ali, and the Rising Argument-person, peace be upon them all; and that Paradise is true, Hellfire is true, the Hour [of Resurrection] shall be coming; there is no doubt about it, and Allah shall resurrect those who are in graves; and that Muhammad, may Allah bless him and his Household, is Allah’s servant and messenger; he has come with the truth, that Ali is the representative of Allah, the vicegerent after Allah’s Messenger, may Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Household, and the one appointed by Allah’s Messenger to succeed him in his nation, carrying out the command of his Lord the All-blessed and All-exalted, that Fatema is the daughter of Allah’s Messenger, her two sons Hasan and Husain are the sons and grandsons of Allah’s Messenger, the two leaders to the true guidance, and the two principals of mercy, and that Ali, Muhammad, Ja`far, Moosa, Ali, Muhammad, Ali, Hasan, and the Argument-person, peace be upon them all, are Imams, leaders, inviters to Allah the All-majestic and All-high, and arguments [of Him] against His servants.
انہیں گواہ بنایا ان کے سپرد کیا اور ان کے سامنے اقرار کیا کہ وہ گواہی دیتا ہے کہ نہیں معبود مگر ﷲ جو یکتا ہے کوئی اس کا شریک نہیں اور یہ کہ حضرت محمد ؐ اس کے بندے اور اس کے رسول ہیں اور وہ تمام انبیاء و رسل کا اقرار کرتا ہے اور ﷲ کے ولی علیؑ اس کے امام ہیں ، ان کی اولاد سے ائمہ اس کے امام ہیں کہ ان میں اول حسنؑ ہیں اور حسینؑ، علی ابن الحسینؑ، محمد ابن علیؑ، جعفر ابن محمدؑ،موسیٰ ابن جعفرؑ،علی ابن موسیٰؑ، محمد ابن علیؑ، علی ابن محمدؑ،حسن ابن علیؑ اور حجت القائمؑ امام ہیں اور یہ کہ جنت حق ہے ،جہنم حق ہے، قیامت آنے والی ہے، اس میں کوئی شبہ نہیں اور ﷲ انہیں اٹھائے گا جو قبروں میں ہیں اور یہ کہ حضرت محمد ؐاس کے بندے اور رسولؐ ہیں جو حق لے کر آئے۔ علی ؑخدا کے ولی اور خدا کے رسولؐ کے بعد ان کے خلیفہ ہیں، خدا رحمت کرے ان پر اور ان کی آلؑ پر، رسو ل ؐنے انہیں اپنی امت میں خلیفہ بنایا اپنے رب تبارک و تعالیٰ کے حکم سے اور فاطمہؑ دخترِ رسول اﷲؐ اور ان کے دو بیٹے حسنؑ اور حسینؑ رسول اﷲؐ کے دو بیٹے ان کے دو نواسے دونوں ہدایت والے امام رحمت والے پیشوا ہیں اور علیؑ ، محمدؑ، جعفرؑ، موسیٰؑ،علیؑ، محمدؑ، علیؑ،حسن ؑاور حجت القائمؑ امام سردار اور خدائے جل و علا کی طرف بلانے والے اور اس کے بندوں پر حجت ہیں۔ اے گواہو!
يَا وَيَا الْمُسَمَّيْنِ فِيْ هٰذَا الْكِتَابِ اثْبِتُوْا لِيْ هٰذِهِ الشَّهَادَةَ عِنْدَكُمْ حَتّٰي تَلْقَوْنِيْ بِهَا عَلَي الْحَوْضِ۔
Yaa wa yal mosam-maiy-ne fee haazal ketaa-bis be-too lee haaze-hish shahaa-data ‘inda-kum hattaa tal-qaw-nee be-haa ‘alal hawz.
O So and So whose names are mentioned in this document-paper, certify for me this testimony of you so that you will meet me carrying it at the Divine Pond.
اے فلاں اے فلاں! کہ جن کا اس تحریر میں نام لیا گیا ہے، اس شہادت کو میرے لیے اس وقت تک قائم رکھو، جب حوض کوثر پر مجھ سے ملوگے۔
يَا نَسْتَوْدِعُكَ اللهَ وَالشَّهَادَةُ وَالْاِقْرَارُ وَالْاِخَاۗءُ مَوْدُوْعَةٌ عِنْدَ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهٖ وَنَقْرَءُ عَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُاللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ۔
Yaa nastaw-de ‘o-kal laaha wash shahaa-dato wal iq-raaro wal e-khaaa-o mawdoo ‘a-toon ‘inda rasoo-lil laahe sallal laaho ‘alaiy-he wa aale-hi wa naqra-o ‘alaiy-kas salaamo wa rahma-tul laahe wa bara-kaatoh.
O So and So we entrust you with Allah. Our testimony, admission, and brotherhood are entrusted with Allah’s Messenger, may Allah bless him and his Household. We invoke upon you peace, Allah’s mercy, and His blessings.
ہم تجھے ﷲ کے حوالے کرتے ہیں اس گواہی، اقرار اور بھائی چارے کے ساتھ جو رسول ﷲ صلی ﷲ علیہ و آلہ کے پاس امانت ہے ،ہم کہتے ہیں تم پر سلام خدا کی رحمت اور برکتیں ہوں۔
