Ramazan New Moon
رمضان چاند رات
The supplication said on sighting the new moon of Ramazan — chaand raat, the night the month begins.
It opens with the words the tradition addresses to the crescent itself: “Our Lord and your Lord is Allah, the Lord of the worlds” — a refusal, built into the greeting, to treat the moon as anything but a creature.
What it then asks is the month itself: that the crescent be made blessed, that the reciter be given the means to fast in it, be kept safe through it, be brought through it in ease and health, and be employed in it in His obedience.
بِسْمِ اللہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ
Bismillaahir rahmaanir raheem
In the Name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful.
اللہ کے نام سے (شروع کرتا ہوں) جو بڑا مہربا ن نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔
رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّکَ اللہُ رَبُّ الْعٰلَمِیْنَ۔ اَللّٰہُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ عَلَیْنَا هِلَالًا مُبَارَكًا، وَ وَفِّقًنَا لِصِیَامِ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ، وَسَلِّمْنَا فِیْهِ، وَتَسَلَّمْنَا مِنْهُ، فِیْ یُسْرٍ وَعَافِیَۃٍ، وَاسْتَعْمِلْنَا فِیْهِ بِطَاعَتِكَ، اِنَّكَ عَلٰی كُلِّ شَیْءٍ قَدِیْرٌ۔
Rabbonaa wa rabbo-kal-laaho rabbul aa’lameen.
Allaahum-maj a’lho a’laiy-naa helaa-lan mobaara-kan, wa waffe-qannaa le-seyaame shahre ramazaan, wa sallim-naa feehe, wa tasal-lamnaa minho, fee yusrin wa aa’fe-yatin, was-ta’milnaa feehe be-taa-a’teka, inna-ka a’laa kulle shai-in qadeer.
Our Lord and your Lord is Allah, Lord of the worlds. O Allah make it a blessed crescent for us and grant us the chance to fast in it and keep us safe in it and make us receive (good) from it in ease and health and use us in it for Your obedience surely You have power over all things.
ہمارا اور آپ کا پروردگار تو عالمین کا پالنے والا ہے، پروردگار اس مہینے کے چاند کوہمارے لئے مبارک قرار دے، اور ہمیں اس مہینے کے روزے رکھنے کی توفیق عطا فرما، اور ہمیں اس میں سلامتی عطا فرما، اور اس مہینے کو ہماری طرف سے سلامتی، آرام اور سکون میں رکھ اور ہمیں اس مہینے اپنی اطاعت اور عبادات میں مشغول رکھ، بیشک تو ہر کام پر قادر ہے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ۔
Allahumma swalle alaa muhammadiw wa aale muhammadin
Allah’s (s.w.t) choicest blessings be upon Mohammed and his holy progeny.
اے معبود! رحمت نازل فرما حضرت محمدؐ اور انکی آل ؑپر۔
