Before Death
موت سے پہلے
A supplication for the time before death, kept in the Mayyit Guide.
It is one sentence long and its whole argument is a comparison: pardon the many times I disobeyed You, and accept the few times I obeyed. The reciter does not claim the balance is favourable — the dua is built on admitting that it is not.
It then names Allah by exactly that quality: the One who accepts the few and pardons the many.
بِسْمِ اللہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ
Bismillaahir rahmaanir raheem
In the Name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful.
اللہ کے نام سے (شروع کرتا ہوں) جو بڑا مہربا ن نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْلِیَ مِن مَّعَاصِیْكَ وَاقْبَلْ مِنَّی الْیَسِیْرَ مِنْ طَارَتِكَ یَا مَن یَّقْبَلُ الْیَسِیْرَ وَ یَعْفُوْ عَنِ الْكَثِیْرِ اِقْبَلْ مِنَّی الْیَسِیْرَ وَاعْفُ عَنِّ الْكَثِیْرَ اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ الْعَفُوُّ الْغَفُوْرُ ارَّحَمْنِیْ فَاِنَّكَ رَحِیْمُ۔
Allaahum-magh-fir-leya mim ma-aa’sey-ka waqbal minnal yaseera min taa-rate-ka yaa maiy-yaqba-lul yaseera wa ya’foo a’nil kaseere iqbal minnal yaseera wa’fo a’nnil kaseera inna-ka antal a’foo-wul ghafoo-rur raham-nee fa inna-ka raheemo.
O Allah! Pardon the many times I have disobeyed You, and accept the few instances when I have obeyed You. O You Who accept the few and pardon the many! Accept from me what are few and pardon me for the many. Indeed, You are the All-Pardoning, the All-Forgiving. O Allah! Have mercy on me, for You are the Ever-Merciful.
اے اللہ! میرے گناہ معاف فرما، اور میری تھوڑی سی اطاعت بھی قبول کر لے۔ اے وہ ذات جو تھوڑا سا عمل بھی قبول کرتی ہے اور بہت سی خطائیں معاف کر دیتی ہے! میری تھوڑی سی نیکی قبول فرما اور میرے بہت سے گناہ معاف کر دے۔ بے شک تو ہی بہت معاف کرنے والا، بہت بخشنے والا ہے۔ مجھ پر رحم فرما، کیونکہ تو بڑا مہربان ہے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ۔
Allahumma swalle alaa muhammadiw wa aale muhammadin
Allah’s (s.w.t) choicest blessings be upon Mohammed and his holy progeny.
اے معبود! رحمت نازل فرما حضرت محمدؐ اور انکی آل ؑپر۔
