Two lines said after namaz at the start and the end of the day, and among the shortest supplications in the collection.
Both turn on the same address — “O Living, O Self-Subsisting” — and ask the same three things: refuge sought by His mercy, the setting right of all the reciter’s affairs, and the request that gives the dua its character: that they not be left to themselves for the blink of an eye, ever.
بِسْمِ اللہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ
Bismillaahir rahmaanir raheem
In the Name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful.
اللہ کے نام سے (شروع کرتا ہوں) جو بڑا مہربا ن نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔
یَا حَیُّ یَاقَیُّوْمٌ، بِرَحْمَتِكَ اسْتَغِیْثُ (فَاَغِثْنِیْ)وَلَا تَكِلْنِیْ اِلٰی نَفْسِیْ طَرْفَۃَ عَیْنٍ اَبَدًا، وَاَصْلِحْ لِیْ شَانِیْ كُلَّهٗ۔
Yaa haiyyo yaa qaiyyoomo be-rehmatekas tagheeso (fa-aghisnee) wa laa tiklnee elaa nafsee tarfata a’ynin abadan, wa asleh leee shaanee kullahu.
O Living. O eternal, by your mercy, I seek your refuge (so give me refuge) and do not leave me to my devices for the wink of the eye, ever. And reform all my conditions.
اے زندہ و پائندہ تیری رحمت کی پناہ کی طلب گار ہوں، کہ میرے تمام کاموں کی اصلاح فرما، اور مجھے میرے نفس کے حوالہ نہ کر۔
یَا حَیُّ یَا قَیُّوْمُ، بِرَحْمَتِكَ اسْتَغِیْثُ، اَصْلِحْ لِیْ شَانِیْ كُلَّهٗ وَلَا تَكِلْنِیْ اِلٰی نَفْسِیْ۔
Yaa haiyyo yaa qaiyyoomo, be-rehmateka atagheeso, asleh leee shaanee kullahu, wa laa tiklnee elaa nafsee.
O Living, O eternal, by your mercy do I seek refuge, reform all my conditions and do not leave me upon myself.
اے زندہ اور ہمیشہ رہنے والے، تیری رحمت کی پناہ کی طلب گار ہوں، مجھے آنکھ جھپکنے کے برابر بھی تنہا نہ چھوڑ اور میرے تمام کاموں میں اصلاح فرما۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ۔
Allahumma swalle alaa muhammadiw wa aale muhammadin
Allah’s (s.w.t) choicest blessings be upon Mohammed and his holy progeny.
اے معبود! رحمت نازل فرما حضرت محمدؐ اور انکی آل ؑپر۔
