Surah Mulk (67, 30 ayat)سورۂ ملک

It opens by blessing the One in Whose hand is the kingdom, Who created death and life as a trial, and invites the eye to look again at the seven heavens for any flaw. Those cast into the fire admit a warner came to them and was rejected. Questions follow about the birds held aloft, the withholding of sustenance, and, at the close, water sinking away.

Kingdom (Makki)

It is also called Munjiyah because it saves the one who recites it from the torment of the grave. The Holy Prophet (s) likened the recitation of this Surah to the staying awake on the night of Qadr. He (s) also wished that every believer would memorize this Surah and know it by heart. He said that this Surah will remove its reciter from Hellfire and take him to Jannah. Imam Jafar Sadiq (a) said that reciting this Surah at night keeps one under the protection of Allah (s) until morning. Recitation on the night of Eid gives the reward of staying awake the whole night in worship. If recited on a person who has just died, his soul gets immediate relief. Memorizing this Surah has great reward. If memorized, this Surah acts as a protection from the torment of the grave, and it intercedes on behalf of the one who has memorized it on the Day of Judgement.

امام صادقؑ نے فرمایا:جس نے سورۂ ملک کی تلاوت سونے سے قبل کی وہ صبح تک امان خدا میں رہے گا اور روزِ قیامت بھی امان میں رہے گا یہاں تک کہ داخلِ بہشت ہو (مجمع البیان،ج۱۰،ص۶۷)۔ قطب راوندی نے ابن عباس سے نقل کیا ہے : ایک شخص بے خبری میں کسی قبر پر خیمہ لگا کر بیٹھ گیا اوراس نے وہاں سورۂ ملک پڑھا تو ایک آواز سنی کہ یہ نجات دینے والا سورہ ہے تو اس نے یہ واقعہ رسول خداؐ سے بیان کیا آنحضرتؐ نے فرمایا : واقعاً یہ سورہ قبر کے عذاب سے نجات دینے والا ہے۔

بِسْمِ اللہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

Bismi allaahi ar-rahmaani ar-raheem

In the Name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful.

اللہ کے نام سے (شروع کرتا ہوں) جو بڑا مہربان نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔

تَبٰرَكَ الَّذِيْ بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ وَهُوَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ

Tabaaraka allazee biyadihi al-mulku wahuwa 'alaa kulli shay'in qadeer

Blessed is He in Whose hand is the kingdom, and He has power over all things

بابرکت ہے وہ ذات جس کے ہاتھوں میں سارا ملک ہے اور وہ ہر شے پر قادر و مختار ہے۔

اَلَّذِيْ خَلَقَ الْمَوْتَ وَالْحَيٰوةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ اَيُّكُمْ اَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا وَّهُوَ الْعَزِيْزُ الْغَفُوْرُ

Allazee khalaqa al-mawta wal-hayaata liyabluwakum ayyukum ahsanu 'amalan wahuwa al-'azeezu al-ghafoor

Who created death and life that He may try you- which of you is best in deeds; and He is the Mighty, the Forgiving

اس نے موت و حیات کو اس لئے پیدا کیا ہے تاکہ تمہاری آزمائش کرے کہ تم میں حسن عمل کے اعتبار سے سب سے بہتر کون ہے اور وہ صاحبِ عزّت بھی ہے اور بخشنے والا بھی ہے۔

اَلَّذِيْ خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمٰوٰتٍ طِبَاقًا مَّا تَرٰى فِيْ خَلْقِ الرَّحْمٰنِ مِنْ تَفٰوُتٍ فَارْجِعِ الْبَصَرَ هَلْ تَرٰى مِنْ فُطُوْرٍ

Allazee khalaqa sab'a samaawaatin tibaaqan maa taraa fee khalqi ar-rahmaani min tafaawutin farji'i al-basara hal taraa min futoor

Who created the seven heavens one above another; you see no incongruity in the creation of the Beneficent God; then look again, can you see any disorder?

اسی نے سات آسمان تہ بہ تہ پیدا کئے ہیں اور تم رحمان کی خلقت میں کسی طرح کا فرق نہ دیکھو گے پھر دوبارہ نگاہ اٹھا کر دیکھو کہیں کوئی شگاف نظر آتا ہے۔

ثُمَّ ارْجِعِ الْبَصَرَ كَرَّتَيْنِ يَنْقَلِبْ اِلَيْكَ الْبَصَرُ خَاسِئًا وَّهُوَ حَسِيْرٌ

Thumma irji'i al-basara karratayni yanqalib ilayka al-basaru khaasi'an wahuwa haseer

Then turn back the eye again and again; your look shall come back to you confused while it is fatigued.

اس کے بعد بار بار نگاہ ڈالو دیکھو نگاہ تھک کر پلٹ آئے گی لیکن کوئی عیب نظر نہ آئے گا۔

وَلَقَدْ زَيَّنَّا السَّمَآءَ الدُّنْيَا بِمَصَابِيْحَ وَجَعَلْنٰهَا رُجُوْمًا لِّلشَّيٰطِيْنِ وَاَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابَ السَّعِيْرِ

Walaqad zayyannaa as-samaa'a ad-dunyaa bimasaabeeha waja'alnaahaa rujooman lilshshayaateeni wa-a'tadnaa lahum 'azaaba as-sa'eer

And certainly We have adorned this lower heaven with lamps and We have made these missiles for the Shaitans, and We have prepared for them the chastisement of burning.

ہم نے آسمانِ دنیا کو چراغوں سے مزیّن کیا ہے اور انہیں شیاطین کو سنگسار کرنے کا ذریعہ بنا دیا ہے اور ان کے لئے جہنّم کا عذاب الگ مہیّا کر رکھا ہے۔

وَلِلَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا بِرَبِّهِمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيْرُ

Walillazeena kafaroo birabbihim 'azaabu jahannama wabi'sa al-maseer

And for those who disbelieve in their Lord is the punishment of hell, and evil is the resort.

اور جن لوگوں نے اپنے پروردگار کا انکار کیا ہے ان کے لئے جہنّم کا عذاب ہے اور وہی بدترین انجام ہے۔

اِذَآ اُلْقُوْا فِيْهَا سَمِعُوْا لَهَا شَهِيْقًا وَّهِيَ تَفُوْرُ

Izaa ulqoo feehaa sami'oo lahaa shaheeqan wahiya tafoor

When they shall be cast therein, they shall hear a loud moaning of it as it heaves

جب بھی وہ اس میں ڈالے جائیں گے اس کی چیخ سنیں گے اور وہ جوش مار رہا ہو گا۔

تَكَادُ تَمَيَّزُ مِنَ الْغَيْظِ كُلَّمَآ اُلْقِيَ فِيْهَا فَوْجٌ سَاَلَهُمْ خَزَنَتُهَآ اَلَمْ يَاْتِكُمْ نَذِيْرٌ

Takaadu tamayyazu mina al-ghayzi kullamaa ulqiya feehaa fawjun sa'alahum khazanatuhaa alam ya'tikum nazeer

Almost bursting for fury. Whenever a group is cast into it, its keeper shall ask them: Did there not come to you a warner?

بلکہ قریب ہو گا کہ جوش کی شدت سے پھٹ پڑے جب بھی اس میں کسی گروہ کو ڈالا جائے گا تو اس کے داروغہ ان سے پوچھیں گے کہ کیا تمہارے پاس کوئی ڈرانے والا نہیں آیا تھا۔

قَالُوْا بَلٰى قَدْ جَآءَنَا نَذِيْرٌ فَكَذَّبْنَا وَقُلْنَا مَا نَزَّلَ اللهُ مِنْ شَيْءٍ اِنْ اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا فِيْ ضَلٰلٍ كَبِيْرٍ

Qaaloo balaa qad jaa'anaa nazeerun fakazzabnaa waqulnaa maa nazzala allaahu min shay'in in antum illaa fee dalaalin kabeer

They shall say: Yea! indeed there came to us a warner, but we rejected (him) and said: Allah has not revealed anything, you are only in a great error.

تو وہ کہیں گے کہ آیا تو تھا لیکن ہم نے اسے جھٹلا دیا اور یہ کہہ دیا کہ اللہ نے کچھ بھی نازل نہیں کیا ہے تم لوگ خود بہت بڑی گمراہی میں مبتلا ہو۔

وَقَالُوْا لَوْ كُنَّا نَسْمَعُ اَوْ نَعْقِلُ مَا كُنَّا فِيْٓ اَصْحٰبِ السَّعِيْرِ

Waqaaloo law kunnaa nasma'u aw na'qilu maa kunnaa fee ashaabi as-sa'eer

And they shall say: Had we but listened or pondered, we should not have been among the inmates of the burning fire.

اور پھر کہیں گے کہ اگر ہم بات سن لیتے اور سمجھتے ہوتے تو آج جہنّم والوں میں نہ ہوتے۔

فَاعْتَرَفُوْا بِذَنْۢبِهِمْ فَسُحْقًا لِّاَصْحٰبِ السَّعِيْرِ

Fa'tarafoo bizanbihim fasuhqan li-ashaabi as-sa'eer

So they shall acknowledge their sins, but far will be (forgiveness) from the inmates of the burning fire.

تو انہوں نے خود اپنے گناہ کا اقرار کر لیا تو اب جہنّم والوں کے لئے تو رحمت خدا سے دوری ہی دوری ہے۔

اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ بِالْغَيْبِ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَّاَجْرٌ كَبِيْرٌ

Inna allazeena yakhshawna rabbahum bil-ghaybi lahum maghfiratun wa-ajrun kabeer

(As for) those who fear their Lord in secret, they shall surely have forgiveness and a great reward.

بےشک جو لوگ بغیر دیکھے اپنے پروردگار کا خوف رکھتے ہیں ان کے لئے مغفرت اور اجر عظیم ہے۔

وَاَسِرُّوْا قَوْلَكُمْ اَوِ اجْهَرُوْا بِهٖٓ اِنَّهٗ عَلِيْمٌۢ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُوْرِ

Wa-asirroo qawlakum awi ijharoo bihee innahoo 'aleemun bizaati as-sudoor

And conceal your word or manifest it; surely He is Cognizant of what is in the hearts.

اور تم لوگ اپنی باتوں کو آہستہ کہو یا بلند آواز سے خدا تو سینوں کے رازوں کو بھی جانتا ہے۔

اَلَا يَعْلَمُ مَنْ خَلَقَ وَهُوَ اللَّطِيْفُ الْخَبِيْرُ

Alaa ya'lamu man khalaqa wahuwa al-lateefu al-khabeer

Does He not know, Who created? And He is the Knower of the subtleties, the Aware.

اور کیا پیدا کرنے والا نہیں جانتا ہے جب کہ وہ لطیف بھی ہے اور خبیر بھی ہے۔

هُوَ الَّذِيْ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْاَرْضَ ذَلُوْلًا فَامْشُوْا فِيْ مَنَاكِبِهَا وَكُلُوْا مِن رِّزْقِهٖ وَاِلَيْهِ النُّشُوْرُ

Huwa allazee ja'ala lakumu al-arda zaloolan famshoo fee manaakibihaa wakuloo min rizqihee wa-ilayhi an-nushoor

He it is Who made the earth smooth for you, therefore go about in the spacious sides thereof, and eat of His sustenance, and to Him is the return after death.

اسی نے تمہارے لئے زمین کو نرم بنا دیا ہے کہ اس کے اطراف میں چلو اور رزقِ خدا تلاش کرو پھر اسی کی طرف قبروں سے اٹھ کر جانا ہے۔

ئَاَمِنْتُم مَّنْ فِي السَّمَآءِ اَنْ يَّخْسِفَ بِكُمُ الْاَرْضَ فَاِذَا هِيَ تَمُوْرُ

A'amintum man fee as-samaa'i an yakhsifa bikumu al-arda fa-izaa hiya tamoor

Are you secure of those in the heaven that He should not make the earth to swallow you up? Then lo! it shall be in a state of commotion.

کیا تم آسمان میں حکومت کرنے والے کی طرف سے مطمئن ہو گئے کہ وہ تم کو زمین میں دھنسا دے اور وہ تمہیں گردش ہی دیتی رہے۔

اَمْ اَمِنْتُم مَّنْ فِي السَّمَآءِ اَنْ يُّرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ حَاصِبًا فَسَتَعْلَمُوْنَ كَيْفَ نَذِيْرِ

Am amintum man fee as-samaa'i an yursila 'alaykum haasiban fasata'lamoona kayfa nazeer

Or are you secure of those in the heaven that He should not send down upon you a punishment? Then shall you know how was My warning.

یا تم اس کی طرف سے اس بات سے محفوظ ہو گئے کہ وہ تمہارے اوپر پتھروں کی بارش کر دے پھر تمہیں بہت جلد معلوم ہو جائے گا کہ میرا ڈرانا کیسا ہوتا ہے۔

وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ الَّذِيْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ نَكِيْرِ

Walaqad kazzaba allazeena min qablihim fakayfa kaana nakeer

And certainly those before them rejected (the truth), then how was My disapproval.

اور ان سے پہلے والوں نے بھی تکذیب کی ہے تو دیکھو کہ ان کا انجام کتنا بھیانک ہوا ہے۔

اَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا اِلَى الطَّيْرِ فَوْقَهُمْ صٰٓفّٰتٍ وَّيَقْبِضْنَ مَا يُمْسِكُهُنَّ اِلَّا الرَّحْمٰنُ اِنَّهٗ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍۢ بَصِيْرٌ

Awalam yaraw ilaa at-tayri fawqahum saaffaatin wayaqbidna maa yumsikuhunna illaa ar-rahmaanu innahoo bikulli shay'in baseer

Have they not seen the birds above them expanding (their wings) and contracting (them)? What is it that withholds them save the Beneficent God? Surely He sees everything.

کیا ان لوگوں نے اپنے اوپر ان پرندوں کو نہیں دیکھا ہے جو پر پھیلا دیتے ہیں اور سمیٹ لیتے ہیں کہ انہیں اس فضا میں اللہ کے علاوہ کوئی نہیں سنبھال سکتا کہ وہی ہر شے کی نگرانی کرنے والا ہے۔

اَمَّنْ هٰذَا الَّذِيْ هُوَ جُنْدٌ لَّكُمْ يَنْصُرُكُم مِّنْ دُوْنِ الرَّحْمٰنِ اِنِ الْكٰفِرُوْنَ اِلَّا فِيْ غُرُوْرٍ

Amman haazaa allazee huwa jundun lakum yansurukum min dooni ar-rahmaani ini al-kaafiroona illaa fee ghuroor

Or who is it that will be a host for you to assist you besides the Beneficent God? The unbelievers are only in deception.

کیا یہ جو تمہاری فوج بنا ہوا ہے خدا کے مقابلہ میں تمہاری مدد کر سکتا ہے۔ بےشک کفار صرف دھوکہ میں پڑے ہوئے ہیں۔

اَمَّنْ هٰذَا الَّذِيْ يَرْزُقُكُمْ اِنْ اَمْسَكَ رِزْقَهٗ بَل لَّجُّوْا فِيْ عُتُوٍّ وَّنُفُوْرٍ

Amman haazaa allazee yarzuqukum in amsaka rizqahoo bal lajjoo fee 'utuwwin wanufoor

Or who is it that will give you sustenance if He should withhold His sustenance? Nay! they persist in disdain and aversion.

یا یہ تم کو روزی دے سکتا ہے اگر خدا اپنی روزی کو روک لے، حقیقت یہ ہے کہ یہ لوگ نافرمانی اور نفرت میں غرق ہو گئے ہیں۔

اَفَمَنْ يَّمْشِيْ مُكِبًّا عَلٰى وَجْهِهٖٓ اَهْدٰٓى اَمَّنْ يَّمْشِيْ سَوِيًّا عَلٰى صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيْمٍ

Afaman yamshee mukibban 'alaa wajhihee ahdaa amman yamshee sawiyyan 'alaa siraatin mustaqeem

What! is he who goes prone upon his face better guided or he who walks upright upon a straight path?

کیا وہ شخص جو منہ کے بل چلتا ہے وہ زیادہ ہدایت یافتہ ہے یا جو سیدھے سیدھے صراطِ مستقیم پر چل رہا ہے۔

قُلْ هُوَ الَّذِيْٓ اَنْشَاَكُمْ وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَالْاَبْصَارَ وَالْاَفْئِدَةَ قَلِيْلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُوْنَ

Qul huwa allazee ansha'akum waja'ala lakumu as-sam'a wal-absaara wal-af'idata qaleelan maa tashkuroon

Say: He it is Who brought you into being and made for you the ears and the eyes and the hearts: little is it that you give thanks.

آپ کہہ دیجئے کہ خدا ہی نے تمہیں پیدا کیا ہے اور اسی نے تمہارے لئے کان آنکھ اور دل قرار دیئے ہیں مگر تم بہت کم شکریہ ادا کرنے والے ہو۔

قُلْ هُوَ الَّذِيْ ذَرَاَكُمْ فِي الْاَرْضِ وَاِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُوْنَ

Qul huwa allazee zara'akum fee al-ardi wa-ilayhi tuhsharoon

Say: He it is Who multiplied you in the earth and to Him you shall be gathered.

کہہ دیجئے کہ وہی وہ ہے جس نے زمین میں تمہیں پھیلا دیا ہے اور اسی کی طرف تمہیں جمع کر کے لے جایا جائے گا۔

وَيَقُوْلُوْنَ مَتٰى هٰذَا الْوَعْدُ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰدِقِيْنَ

Wayaqooloona mataa haazaa al-wa'du in kuntum saadiqeen

And they say: When shall this threat be (executed) if you are truthful?

اور یہ لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ اگر تم لوگ سچے ہو تو یہ وعدہ کب پورا ہو گا۔

قُلْ اِنَّمَا الْعِلْمُ عِنْدَ اللهِ وَاِنَّمَآ اَنَا۟ نَذِيْرٌ مُّبِيْنٌ

Qul innamaa al-'ilmu 'inda allaahi wa-innamaa anaa nazeerun mubeen

Say: The knowledge (thereof) is only with Allah and I am only a plain warner.

آپ کہہ دیجئے کہ علم اللہ کے پاس ہے اور میں تو صرف واضح طور پر ڈرانے والا ہوں۔

فَلَمَّا رَاَوْهُ زُلْفَةً سِيْٓئَتْ وُجُوْهُ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا وَقِيْلَ هٰذَا الَّذِيْ كُنْتُمْ بِهٖ تَدَّعُوْنَ

Falammaa ra'awhu zulfatan see'at wujoohu allazeena kafaroo waqeela haazaa allazee kuntum bihee tadda'oon

But when they shall see it nigh, the faces of those who disbelieve shall be sorry, and it shall be said; This is that which you used to call for.

پھر جب اس قیامت کے عذاب کو قریب دیکھیں گے تو کافروں کے چہرے بگڑ جائیں گے اور ان سے کہا جائے گا کہ یہی وہ عذاب ہے جس کے تم خواستگار تھے۔

قُلْ اَرَئَيْتُمْ اِنْ اَهْلَكَنِيَ اللهُ وَمَن مَّعِيَ اَوْ رَحِمَنَا فَمَنْ يُّجِيْرُ الْكٰفِرِيْنَ مِنْ عَذَابٍ اَلِيْمٍ

Qul ara'aytum in ahlakaniya allaahu waman ma'iya aw rahimanaa faman yujeeru al-kaafireena min 'azaabin aleem

Say: Have you considered if Allah should destroy me and those with me- rather He will have mercy on us; yet who will protect the unbelievers from a painful punishment?

آپ کہہ دیجئے کہ تمہارا کیا خیال ہے کہ خدا مجھے اور میرے ساتھیوں کو ہلاک کر دے یا ہم پر رحم کرے تو ان کافروں کا درد ناک عذاب سے بچانے والا کون ہے۔

قُلْ هُوَ الرَّحْمٰنُ اٰمَنَّا بِهٖ وَعَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْنَا فَسَتَعْلَمُوْنَ مَنْ هُوَ فِيْ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِيْنٍ

Qul huwa ar-rahmaanu aamannaa bihee wa'alayhi tawakkalnaa fasata'lamoona man huwa fee dalaalin mubeen

Say: He is the Beneficent God, we believe in Him and on Him do we rely, so you shall come to know who it is that is in clear error.

کہہ دیجئے کہ وہی خدائے رحمان ہے جس پر ہم ایمان لائے ہیں اور اسی پر ہمارا بھروسہ ہے پھر عنقریب تمہیں معلوم ہو جائے گا کہ کھلی ہوئی گمراہی میں کون ہے۔

قُلْ اَرَئَيْتُمْ اِنْ اَصْبَحَ مَآؤُكُمْ غَوْرًا فَمَنْ يَّاْتِيْكُمْ بِمَآءٍ مَّعِيْنٍ

Qul ara'aytum in asbaha maa'ukum ghawran faman ya'teekum bimaa'in ma'een

Say: Have you considered if your water should go down, who is it then that will bring you flowing water?

کہہ دیجئے کہ تمہارا کیا خیال ہے اگر تمہارا سارا پانی زمین کے اندر جذب ہو جائے تو تمہارے لئے چشمہ کا پانی بہا کر کون لائے گا۔

صَدَقَ اللهُ الْعَلِیُّ الْعَظِیْمُ۔

Sadaqa allaahu al-'aliyyu al-'azeem.

Almighty God the most high speaks the truth.

اللہ بزرگ و برتر نے سچ فرمایا ہے۔
