A supplication for the reciter to be shown someone who has died — a marhoom — in a dream, kept among the benefits of particular surahs and verses.
It opens by naming Allah as the Ever-Living beyond description, from whom all things came forth and to whom they return, and states the position of the one who turns away: there is no refuge from Allah except with Allah.
The request comes through tawassul — by "there is no god but You", by the Bismillah, and by the right of the Prophet (s), of Ali (a) as the best of the successors, of Sayyida Fatima (s) as the chief of the women of the worlds, and of Hasan and Husain (a) — and then asks in one line: show me my deceased one in the state he is in.
Kaf’ami, in his book entitled Misbah, and Muhaddith Fayz, in his book entitled Khulasat Azkar, have said the following: In some books written by Imamiyyah scholars, we have found that whoever wishes to see in dream one of the Prophets, one of the Holy Imams, one of people, or one of his parents, may recite Surah Shams, Surah Lail, Surah Qadr, Surah Kaafiroon, Surah Ikhlaas, Surah Falaq, and Surah Naas. Then, he may repeat Surah Ikhlaas 100 times, repeat the invocation of Allah’s blessings upon the Holy Prophet and his Household 100 times, and having performed the ritual ablutions (i.e wuzu) sleeps on his right side. If he does, he will see in dream whomever Allah wants him to see and talk with whomever Allah wants him to talk with.
شیخ کفعمیؒ مصباح میں اور محدث فیضؒ خلاصۃ الاذکار میں فرماتے ہیں: میں نے بعض کتب امامیہ میں دیکھا ہے جو شخص یہ چاہے کہ خواب میں پیغمبر ؐیاامام ؑکی زیارت کرے یا اپنے کسی رشتہ دار یا اپنے والدین کو خواب میں دیکھے تو وہ باوضو ہو کر اپنے بستر پر دائیں پہلوہوکر لیٹے اور سورۂ شمس، سورۂ لیل، سورۂ قدر، سورۂ کافرون، سورۂ اخلاص، سورۂ فلق اور سورۂ ناس کی تلاوت کرنے کے بعد ۱۰۰مرتبہ سورۂ اخلاص پڑھے اور ۱۰۰ مرتبہ محمدؐ و آلؑ محمدؐ پردرود بھیجے اور پھر دائیں پہلو سوجائے تو جس کا بھی ارادہ کیا ہو گاانشاء اﷲ اسے خواب میں دیکھے گااور اس سے جو بات کرناچاہے وہ بھی کر پائے گا۔

ایک اور نسخے میں دیکھا گیا ہے کہ یہ عمل ۷ راتوں تک بجا لائے اور مذکورہ سورے پڑھنے سے قبل یہ دعا پڑھے۔۔۔
بِسْمِ اللہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ
Bismillaahir rahmaanir raheem
In the Name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful.
اللہ کے نام سے (شروع کرتا ہوں) جو بڑا مہربا ن نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ اَنْتَ الْحَىُّ الَّذِىْ لَايُوْصَفْ وَالْاِيْمَانُ يُعْرَفُ مِنْهُ مِنْكَ بَدَتِ الْاَشْيَاۗءُ وَاِلَيْكَ تَعُوْدُ فَمَا اَقْبَلَ مِنْهَا كُنْتَ مَلْجَاَهُ وَمَنْجَاهُ وَمَا اَدْبَرَ مِنْهَا لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهٗ مَلْجَاۗءٌ وَلَامَنْجًامِّنْكَ اِلَّا اِلَيْكَ فَاَسْئَلُكَ بِلَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ وَاَسْئَلُكَ بِبِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ وَبِحَقِّ حَبِيْبِكَ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهٖ سَيِّدِ النَّبِيِّيْنَ وَبِحَقِّ عَلِىٍّ خَيْرِ الْوَصِيِّيْنَ وَبِحَقِّ فَاطِمَةَ سَيِّدَةِ نِسَاۗءِ الْعَالَمِيْنَ وَبِحَقِّ الْحَسَنِ وَالْحُسَيْنِ اللَّذَيْنِ جَعَلْتَهُمَا سَيِّدَىْ شَبَابِ اَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ عَلَيْهِمْ اَجْمَعِيْنَ السَّلَامُ اَنْ تُصَلِّىَ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَاَنْ تُرِيَنِىْ مَيِّتِىْ فِى الْحَالِ الَّتِىْ هُوَ فِيْهَا۔
Allaahumma antal hayyul lazee laa yoosaf wal imaano yo’re-fo minho minka bada-til ashyaaa-o wa ilaiy-ka ta-oo’do fa-maa aq-bala minhaa kunta malja-aho wa manja-ho wa maa ad-bara minhaa lam yakun lahu maljaa-un wa laa manjam minka illaa ilaiy-ka fa as-aloka belaa ilaaha illaa anta.
Wa as-aloka be-bismil laahir rahmaanir raheeme wa be-haqqe habee-bekamohammadin sallal laaho a’laiy-he wa aale-hi sayyedin nabiyyina wa be-haqqe aliyyin khai-ril wasiyyin wa be-haqqe faatema-ta sayyadate nesaa-il a’ala-meena wa be-haqqil hasane wal husainil lazee-ne ja-a’lta-homaa sayyadi sha-baabe ahlil jannate a’laiy-him aj-ma-eenas salaamo an to-saliyya a’laa mohammadiw wa aale mohammadin wa an toree-nee mayye-tee fil halil latee howa feehaa.
O Allah, You are the Ever-Living beyond description. Faith is known from You. From You all things came forth, and to You they return. Whatever of them turns toward (You), You are its refuge and its salvation; and whatever of them turns away, it has no refuge and no deliverance from You except with You. So I ask You by “There is no god but You”; and I ask You by “In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate”; and by the right of Your beloved Muhammad, may Allah bless him and his family, the master of the prophets; and by the right of Ali, the best of the successors; and by the right of Fatimah, the chief of the women of the worlds; and by the right of Hasan and Husayn whom You made the chiefs of the youth of Paradise peace be upon them all: Send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and show me my deceased one in the state he is in.
اے معبود! تو وہ زندہ ہے جس کا وصف بیان نہیں ہو سکتا وہی جس سے ایمان کی معرفت ہوئی تجھی سے چیزوں کا آغاز ہوا اور وہ تیری طرف پلٹ جائیں گی پس جو تیری طرف آئے گا تو اس کو پناہ و نجات دے گا اور جو منہ پھیرے گااس کے لئے نہ تجھ سے پناہ ہے نہ نجات مگر تیری طرف سے۔ پس میں تجھ سے سوال کرتا ہوں میرے بر حق معبود ہو نے کے واسطے سے سوال کرتا ہوں بسم اﷲالرحمٰن الرحیم کے واسطے سےاور تیرے حبیب حضرت محمد مصطفیٰ ؐکے حق کے واسطے سے جو نبیوں کے سردار ہیں اور اوصیا میں بہترحضرت علی ؑکے حق کے واسطے سے تمام جہانوں کی عورتوں کی سردار حضرت فاطمہ ؑ کے حق اور حسنؑ و حسین ؑ کے حق کے واسطے سے سوال کرتا ہوں کہ دونوں کو تو نے جوانانِ جنت کاسردار قرار دیا ہے ان سب پر درود و سلام ہو کہ تو رحمت نازل فرما محمدؐ و آل ؑ محمدؐ پر اور یہ کہ مجھے دکھا دے میرا فلاں مرد ہ اس حال میں کہ جس میں وہ ہے۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ۔
Allahumma swalle alaa muhammadiw wa aale muhammadin
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad.
اے معبود! رحمت نازل فرما حضرت محمدؐ اور انکی آل ؑپر۔
The author of Khulasat Azkar has also reported the following from some books: In the book entitled Akhlaq Hamidah and written by Muhammad ibn Jarir Tabari, I have seen this narration: Harith ibn Rawh has reported on the authority of his father on the authority of his grandfather who said to his sons: If you are attacked by a distressing matter, do not go to sleep before you make sure that your bodies, beds, and blankets are pure. While avoiding sleeping with any woman (i.e wife), you may recite Surah Shams and Surah Lail 7 times each. After that, you may say this supplicatory prayer. Once you do so, you will see in your dreams one who guides you how to find a way out from the distressing issue, either at this very night, or the third, or at the fifth (I, the reporter, think that he also added the seventh night).
خلاصۃ الاذکار میں ہے کہ بعض کتب میں منقول ہے : میں نے محمد ابن جریرطبری کی کتاب آداب الحمیدہ میں دیکھا ہے کہ حارث ابن روح اپنے والد سے ناقل ہیں کہ میرے والد نے اپنی اولاد سے فرمایا: جب کوئی معاملہ تمہیں غم زدہ کرے تو تم میں سے ہرشخص اس طرح رات بسر کرے کہ پاکیزہ ہو کر پاک صاف بستر میں اپنی بیوی سے الگ ہو کے سوئے، سوتے وقت ۷ مرتبہ سورۂ شمس اور ۷ مرتبہ سورۂ لیل پڑھے،پھر یہ کہے۔ چنانچہ جب کوئی شخص یہ عمل کرےگا تو اسی شب ایک فرد خواب میں اس کے پاس آئے گا یا تیسری یا پانچویں رات اور میرا خیال ہے کہ ساتویں رات میں آنے کے متعلق بھی کہا ہے اب وہ شخص اسے اس مشکل سے نکلنے کا طریقہ بتائے گا۔۔۔
اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْ لِىْ مِنْ اَمْرِىْ هٰذَا فَرْجَا وَمَخْرَجَا۔
Allaahum-maj a’l lee min amree haazaa farjaa wa makh-rajaa.
O Allah, make for me, in this matter of mine, relief and a way out.
اے معبود! تو میرے لئے اس معاملے کے سلجھانے اور اس سے نکلنے کا راستہ بنا دے۔
In addition, other scholars have added Surah Zuha and Surah Nashrah to be recited after the above-mentioned ones.
مؤلف کہتے ہیں: بعض بزرگوں نے سورۂ ضحیٰ اور سورۂ انشراح کے پڑھنے کا بھی ذکر کیا ہے۔
The author of Jawahir Manthurah (i.e Abd Hasib ibn Ahmad ’Alawi) says: Whoever wants to see his request in dream, may recite before going to sleep Surah Shams, Surah Lail, Surah Teen, Surah Ikhlaas, Surah Falaq, and Surah Naas; each one 7 times, and must purify himself ceremonially and sleep in a pure place, putting on a pure dress, turning his face towards the kiblah direction, and sleep on his right side, just like the dead in their tombs. He may then intend what he wants. If he does not see what he has asked for in dream at the first night, he will see it in the coming seven nights. This direction is said to have been carried out by some people and they succeeded in winning their requests.
جواہر المنثورہ میں ہے: جو شخص اپنا مدعا خواب میں دیکھنا چاہے تو وہ سوتے وقت ۷ -۷ مرتبہ سورۂ شمس، سورۂ لیل، سورۂ تین، سورۂ اخلاص، سورۂ فلق، سورۂ ناس پڑھے، پھر حالتِ وضو میں پاک لباس میں پاک جگہ پر قبلہ رُخ ہوکر دائیں پہلو پر لیٹے،جیسے میّت کو قبر میں لٹایا جاتا ہے،اس کےساتھ ہی اپنے مقصد کے حصول کی نیّت کرکے سوجائے اگر پہلی رات کوئی صورت نظر نہ آئے تو اس کے بعد کی راتوں میں ضرور نظر آجائے گی اور ۷ راتوں سے زیادہ وقت نہیں لگے گا۔نیز کہا جاتا ہے کہ یہ عمل مجرّب ہے۔
