Surah Shams (91, 15 ayat)سورۂ شمس
Oaths open the text: the sun and its brilliance, the moon that follows it, the day and night, the heaven, the earth, and the soul made perfect and inspired to know right from wrong. Whoever purifies it succeeds; whoever corrupts it fails. It closes with Samood, who called the apostle a liar and slaughtered the she-camel, and were levelled for it.

Sun (Makki)
It is narrated from the Holy Prophet (s) that the reward for reciting this Surah is compared to the things upon which the sun and the moon shine. Imam Jafar Sadiq (a) has said that the person who recites Surah Shams, Lail, Zuha and Inshirah will, on the Day of Judgement, find all creatures of the earth testifying on his behalf and Allah (s) will accept their testimony and give him a place in Jannah. Recitation of this Surah also leads to an increase in sustenance, courage and popularity amongst the people.
رسول اکرمؐ فرماتے ہیں:جس نے سورۂ شمس کی تلاوت کی گویا اس نے جن چیزوں پر سورج کی شعاعیں پڑتی ہیں ان کے برابرراہِ خدا میں صدقہ دیا (مجمع البیان،ج۱۰ص۳۶۷)۔ مجمع البیا ن میں ابی ابن کعب سے روا یت نقل ہو ئی ہے کہ رسو ل اکرمؐ نے فرما یا: جو شخص سورۂ شمس پڑھے گا، گو یا اس نے راہِ خدا میں ان اشیا کے برابر صد قہ دیا ہے جن پرآفتاب اور مہتاب چمکتے ہیں۔
بِسْمِ اللہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ
Bismi allaahi ar-rahmaani ar-raheem
In the Name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful.
اللہ کے نام سے (شروع کرتا ہوں) جو بڑا مہربان نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔
وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحٰهَا
Wash-shamsi waduhaahaa
I swear by the sun and its brilliance
آفتاب اور اس کی روشنی کی قسم۔
وَالْقَمَرِ اِذَا تَلٰهَا
Wal-qamari izaa tallaahaa
And the moon when it follows the sun
اور چاند کی قسم جب وہ اس کے پیچھے چلے۔
وَالنَّهَارِ اِذَا جَلّٰهَا
Wan-nahaari izaa jallaahaa
And the day when it shows it
اور دن کی قسم جب وہ روشنی بخشے۔
وَالَّيْلِ اِذَا يَغْشٰهَا
Wallayli izaa yaghshaahaa
And the night when it draws a veil over it
اور رات کی قسم جب وہ اسے ڈھانک لے۔
وَالسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنٰهَا
Was-samaa'i wamaa banaahaa
And the heaven and Him Who made it
اور آسمان کی قسم اور جس نے اسے بنایا ہے۔
وَالْاَرْضِ وَمَا طَحٰهَا
Wal-ardi wamaa tahaahaa
And the earth and Him Who extended it
اور زمین کی قسم اور جس نے اسے بچھایا ہے۔
وَنَفْسٍ وَّمَا سَوّٰهَا
Wanafsin wamaa sawwaahaa
And the soul and Him Who made it perfect
اور نفس کی قسم اور جس نے اسے درست کیا ہے۔
فَاَلْهَمَهَا فُجُوْرَهَا وَتَقْوٰهَا
Fal-hamahaa fujoorahaa wataqwaahaa
Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it;
پھر بدی اور تقویٰ کی ہدایت دی ہے۔
قَدْ اَفْلَحَ مَنْ زَكّٰهَا
Qad aflaha man zakkaahaa
He will indeed be successful who purifies it
بے شک وہ کامیاب ہو گیا جس نے نفس کو پاکیزہ بنا لیا۔
وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ دَسّٰهَا
Waqad khaaba man dassaahaa
And he will indeed fail who corrupts it.
اور وہ نامراد ہو گیا جس نے اسے آلودہ کر دیا ہے۔
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُوْدُ بِطَغْوٰهَآ
Kazzabat thamoodu bitaghwaahaa
Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy
ثمود نے اپنی سرکشی کی بنا پر رسول کی تکذیب کی۔
اِذِ انْۢبَعَثَ اَشْقٰهَا
Izi inba'atha ashqaahaa
When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with mischief.
جب ان کا بدبخت اٹھ کھڑا ہوا۔
فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ نَاقَةَ اللهِ وَسُقْيٰهَا
Faqaala lahum rasoolu allaahi naaqata allaahi wasuqyaahaa
So Allah’s apostle said to them (Leave alone) Allah’s she-camel, and (give) her (to) drink.
تو خدا کے رسول نے کہا کہ خدا کی اونٹنی اور اس کی سیرابی کا خیال رکھنا۔
فَكَذَّبُوْهُ فَعَقَرُوْهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ بِذَنْۢبِهِمْ فَسَوّٰهَا
Fakazzaboohu fa'aqaroohaa fadamdama 'alayhim rabbuhum bizanbihim fasawwaahaa
But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground).
تو ان لوگوں نے اس کی تکذیب کی اور اس کی کونچیں کاٹ ڈالیں تو خدا نے ان کے گناہ کے سبب ان پر عذاب نازل کر دیا اور انہیں بالکل برابر کر دیا۔
وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبٰهَا
Walaa yakhaafu 'uqbaahaa
And He fears not its consequence.
اور اسے اس کے انجام کا کوئی خوف نہیں ہے۔
صَدَقَ اللهُ الْعَلِیُّ الْعَظِیْمُ۔
Sadaqa allaahu al-'aliyyu al-'azeem.
Almighty God the most high speaks the truth.
اللہ بزرگ و برتر نے سچ فرمایا ہے۔
