Surah Mutaffifeen (83, 36 ayat)سورۂ مطففین

The subject is those who take full measure from others but give short measure back, and the warning that they will stand before the Lord of the worlds. The record of the wicked is named Sijjin and that of the righteous Iliyin, both written books. The text turns to the righteous on thrones with a sealed drink, and closes with the mockery of believers reversed.

Deceivers in Measuring (Makki)

Imam Jafar Sadiq (a) has said that if a person recites this Surah in his waajib namaz, he will be safe from Jahannam. He will not even see it, hear it or even come close to it. His accounts for deeds will not be taken. It is narrated from the Holy Prophet (s) that if this Surah is recited on a treasure, it will remain safe. In fact, reciting it on anything keeps it safe, even from the vermin of the Earth.

رسول اکرمؐ نے فرمایا:جو شخص سورۂ مطففین کی تلاوت کرے گاروزِ قیامت خداوند عالم اسے خالص بہشتی شراب سے سیراب کرے گا۔ (مجمع البیان، ج۱۰ص۲۸۹)

بِسْمِ اللہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

Bismi allaahi ar-rahmaani ar-raheem

In the Name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful.

اللہ کے نام سے (شروع کرتا ہوں) جو بڑا مہربان نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔

وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِيْنَ

Waylun lilmutaffifeen

Woe to the defrauders

ویل ہے ان کے لئے جو ناپ تول میں کمی کرنے والے ہیں۔

اَلَّذِيْنَ اِذَا اكْتَالُوْا عَلَى النَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُوْنَ

Allazeena izaa iktaaloo 'alaa an-naasi yastawfoon

Who, when they take the measure (of their dues) from men take it fully

یہ جب لوگوں سے ناپ کر لیتے ہیں تو پورا مال لے لیتے ہیں۔

وَاِذَا كَالُوْهُمْ اَو وَّزَنُوْهُمْ يُخْسِرُوْنَ

Wa-izaa kaaloohum aw wazanoohum yukhsiroon

But when they measure out to others or weigh out for them, they are deficient.

اور جب ان کے لئے ناپتے یا تولتے ہیں تو کم کر دیتے ہیں۔

اَلَا يَظُنُّ اُوْلٰٓئِكَ اَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوْثُوْنَ

Alaa yazunnu oolaa'ika annahum mab'oothoon

Do not these think that they shall be raised again

کیا انہیں یہ خیال نہیں ہے کہ یہ ایک روز دوبارہ اٹھائے جانے والے ہیں۔

لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيْمٍ

Liyawmin 'azeem

For a mighty day

بڑے سخت دن میں۔

يَوْمَ يَقُوْمُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعٰلَمِيْنَ

Yawma yaqoomu an-naasu lirabbi al-'aalameen

The day on which men shall stand before the Lord of the worlds?

جس دن سب رب العالمین کی بارگاہ میں حاضر ہوں گے۔

كَلَّآ اِنَّ كِتٰبَ الْفُجَّارِ لَفِيْ سِجِّيْنٍ

Kallaa inna kitaaba al-fujjaari lafee sijjeen

Nay! most surely the record of the wicked is in the Sijjin.

یاد رکھو کہ بدکاروں کا نامہ اعمال سجین میں (سختی سے) ہو گا۔

وَمَآ اَدْرٰكَ مَا سِجِّيْنٌ

Wamaa adraaka maa sijjeen

And what will make you know what the Sijjin is?

اور تم کیا جانو کہ سجین کیا ہے۔

كِتٰبٌ مَّرْقُوْمٌ

Kitaabun marqoom

It is a written book.

ایک لکھا ہوا دفتر ہے۔

وَيْلٌ يَّوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِيْنَ

Waylun yawma'izin lilmukazzibeen

Woe on that day to the rejecters

آج کے دن ان جھٹلانے والوں کے لئے بربادی ہے۔

اَلَّذِيْنَ يُكَذِّبُوْنَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّيْنِ

Allazeena yukazziboona biyawmi ad-deen

Who give the lie to the day of judgment.

جو لوگ روزِ جزا کا انکار کرتے ہیں۔

وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهٖٓ اِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ اَثِيْمٍ

Wamaa yukazzibu bihee illaa kullu mu'tadin atheem

And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one.

اور اس کا انکار صرف وہی کرتے ہیں جو حد سے گزر جانے والے گناہ گار ہیں۔

اِذَا تُتْلٰى عَلَيْهِ اٰيٰتُنَا قَالَ اَسَاطِيْرُ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ

Izaa tutlaa 'alayhi aayaatunaa qaala asaateeru al-awwaleen

When Our communications are recited to him, he says: Stories of those of yore.

جب ان کے سامنے آیات کی تلاوت کی جاتی ہے تو کہتے ہیں کہ یہ تو پرانے افسانے ہیں۔

كَلَّا بَلْ رَانَ عَلٰى قُلُوْبِهِم مَّا كَانُوْا يَكْسِبُوْنَ

Kallaa bal raana 'alaa quloobihim maa kaanoo yaksiboon

Nay! rather, what they used to do has become like rust upon their hearts.

نہیں نہیں بلکہ ان کے دلوں پر ان کے اعمال کا زنگ لگ گیا ہے۔

كَلَّآ اِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوْبُوْنَ

Kallaa innahum 'an rabbihim yawma'izin lamahjooboon

Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord.

یاد رکھو انہیں روزِ قیامت پروردگار کی رحمت سے محجوب (محروم) کر دیا جائے گا۔

ثُمَّ اِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُو الْجَحِيْمِ

Thumma innahum lasaaloo al-jaheem

Then most surely they shall enter the burning fire.

پھر اس کے بعد یہ جہنّم میں جھونکے جانے والے ہیں۔

ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هٰذَا الَّذِيْ كُنْتُمْ بِهٖ تُكَذِّبُوْنَ

Thumma yuqaalu haazaa allazee kuntum bihee tukazziboon

Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to.

پھر ان سے کہا جائے گا کہ یہی وہ ہے جس کا تم انکار کررہے تھے۔

كَلَّآ اِنَّ كِتٰبَ الْاَبْرَارِ لَفِيْ عِلِّيِّيْنَ

Kallaa inna kitaaba al-abraari lafee 'illiyyeen

Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in the Iliyin.

یاد رکھو کہ نیک کردار افراد کا نامہ اعمال علیین (اونچے لوگوں) میں ہو گا۔

وَمَآ اَدْرٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّوْنَ

Wamaa adraaka maa 'illiyyoon

And what will make you know what the highest Iliyin is?

اور تم کیا جانو کہ علیین کیا ہے۔

كِتٰبٌ مَّرْقُوْمٌ

Kitaabun marqoom

It is a written book

ایک لکھا ہوا دفتر ہے۔

يَّشْهَدُهُ الْمُقَرَّبُوْنَ

Yashhaduhu al-muqarraboon

Those who are drawn near (to Allah) shall witness it.

جس کے گواہ ملائکہ مقربین ہیں

اِنَّ الْاَبْرَارَ لَفِيْ نَعِيْمٍ

Inna al-abraara lafee na'eem

Most surely the righteous shall be in bliss

بے شک نیک لوگ نعمتوں میں ہوں گے۔

عَلَى الْاَرَآئِكِ يَنْظُرُوْنَ

'Alaa al-araa'iki yanzuroon

On thrones, they shall gaze;

تختوں پر بیٹھے ہوئے نظارے کر رہے ہوں گے۔

تَعْرِفُ فِيْ وُجُوْهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيْمِ

Ta'rifu fee wujoohihim nadrata an-na'eem

You will recognize in their faces the brightness of bliss.

تم ان کے چہروں پر نعمت کی شادابی کا مشاہدہ کرو گے۔

يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيْقٍ مَّخْتُوْمٍ

Yusqawna min raheeqin makhtoom

They are made to quaff of a pure drink that is sealed (to others).

انہیں سر بمہر خالص شراب سے سیراب کیا جائے گا۔

خِتٰمُهٗ مِسْكٌ وَّفِيْ ذٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ الْمُتَنَافِسُوْنَ

Khitaamuhoo miskun wafee zaalika fal-yatanaafasi al-mutanaafisoon

The sealing of it is (with) musk; and for that let the aspirers aspire.

جس کی مہر مشک کی ہو گی اور ایسی چیزوں میں شوق کرنے والوں کو آپس میں سبقت اور رغبت کرنی چاہئے۔

وَمِزَاجُهٗ مِنْ تَسْنِيْمٍ

Wamizaajuhoo min tasneem

And the admixture of it is a water of Tasnim

اس شراب میں تسنیم کے پانی کی آمیزش ہو گی۔

عَيْنًا يَّشْرَبُ بِهَا الْمُقَرَّبُوْنَ

'Aynan yashrabu bihaa al-muqarraboon

A fountain from which drink they who are drawn near (to Allah).

یہ ایک چشمہ ہے جس سے مقربِ بارگاہ بندے پانی پیتے ہیں۔

اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ اَجْرَمُوْا كَانُوْا مِنَ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا يَضْحَكُوْنَ

Inna allazeena ajramoo kaanoo mina allazeena aamanoo yadhakoon

Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe.

بے شک یہ مجرمین صاحبانِ ایمان کا مذاق اُڑایا کرتے تھے۔

وَاِذَا مَرُّوْا بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُوْنَ

Wa-izaa marroo bihim yataghaamazoon

And when they passed by them, they winked at one another.

اور جب وہ ان کے پاس سے گزرتے تھے تو اشارے کنائے کرتے تھے۔

وَاِذَا انْقَلَبُوْٓا اِلٰٓى اَهْلِهِمُ انْقَلَبُوْا فَكِهِيْنَ

Wa-izaa inqalaboo ilaa ahlihimu inqalaboo fakiheen

And when they returned to their own followers they returned exulting.

اور جب اپنے اہل کی طرف پلٹ کر آتے تھے تو خوش و خرم ہوتے تھے۔

وَاِذَا رَاَوْهُمْ قَالُوْٓا اِنَّ هٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّوْنَ

Wa-izaa ra'awhum qaaloo inna haa'ulaa'i ladaalloon

And when they saw them, they said: Most surely these are in error;

اور جب مومنین کو دیکھتے تو کہتے تھے کہ یہ سب اصلی گمراہ ہیں۔

وَمَآ اُرْسِلُوْا عَلَيْهِمْ حٰفِظِيْنَ

Wamaa ursiloo 'alayhim haafizeen

And they were not sent to be keepers over them.

حالانکہ انہیں ان کا نگراں بنا کر نہیں بھیجا گیا تھا۔

فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُوْنَ

Fal-yawma allazeena aamanoo mina al-kuffaari yadhakoon

So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers;

تو آج ایمان لانے والے بھی کفّار کا مضحکہ اُڑائیں گے۔

عَلَى الْاَرَآئِكِ يَنْظُرُوْنَ

'Alaa al-araa'iki yanzuroon

On thrones, they will look.

تختوں پر بیٹھے ہوئے دیکھ رہے ہوں گے۔

هَلْ ثُوِّبَ الْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوْا يَفْعَلُوْنَ

Hal thuwwiba al-kuffaaru maa kaanoo yaf'aloon

Surely the disbelievers are rewarded as they did.

اب تو کفار کو ان کے اعمال کا پورا پورا بدلہ مل رہا ہے۔

صَدَقَ اللهُ الْعَلِیُّ الْعَظِیْمُ۔

Sadaqa allaahu al-'aliyyu al-'azeem.

Almighty God the most high speaks the truth.

اللہ بزرگ و برتر نے سچ فرمایا ہے۔
